They took over the old Fresh and Easy building. The store is small, but surprisingly it has a meat / fish section. I gave is three stars for the lack of social distancing (there was nobody outside or near the entrance counting how many patrons were inside) and three stars for the high prices. The prices are equivalent to convenient store prices. I am guessing you are paying for the convenience of the store being in Oceanside. I can save way more money by driving to 99 ranch in San Diego. If I need something in a pinch and don't want to go to San Diego, then I'll shop here. read more

We needed an Asian market in North County but this place just isn't it. As soon as you enter the market you're overwhelmed by the stench coming from the seafood/meat area. Not only that, the produce is ridiculously overpriced. I've purchased fresh oysters here on at least 5 occasions. And each time there is at least 2-4 bad oysters. Today was no exception. I asked the young tall guy to make sure that there are no dead ones as I've gotten sick before. He said sarcastically that he'll sell me the dead ones. He grabbed 6, placed them in a bag and I walked away. I had a weird feeling so I opened the bag to check and sure enough, 3 out of the 6 oysters were dead!! I didn't bother confronting him but instead left the oysters back to the seafood area. Never again. read more

No customer service from Manager about many incorrect prices! A year ago I would have written how happy my wife and I are that there is an Asian grocery store in North County San Diego. We have been shopping at 88 Ranch Market regularly. The prices listed on the shelves are frequently lower than what is rung up at the cash register. Sale items are not programmed in the computer for the sale price and many regular items have stickers on the shelves that are totally wrong, but always I pay a higher price, never lower. Today after having identified three price mistakes on my receipt out of thirty items I decided to politely speak with the Manager "Bond". He had been playing with the computer at the Managers island near the cash registers for the entire hour we were there. He was unwilling to provide anything resembling customer service and told me he was busy. I told him I did not want to bother him, and that I would go back to driving to 99 Ranch Market even though it was further away the prices were accurate. He did not say another word, we stood at the checkout for another five minutes, there were no customers and my wife was speaking with the cashier in Chinese. "Bond" just stood in the Managers Island stunned and did not want to make eye contact with me. Customer services is dead at this grocery store! Below is just one of many of the mis-priced items. I've been to a number of Asian markets and when I saw this one in Oceanside me and my girlfriend got excited, however it was rather disappointing overall. The biggest problem is the prices which were higher than I'm used to for the products that they carry. The store is a decent size and there are a variety of items but the quality of those items ranges greatly. Overall I would not do grocery shopping here but rather get a few select items. Nothing seemed to be on sale from what I could tell, it was just kind of like here's the price. Perhaps they have sales and I overlooked that but it sure seemed like nothing was on sale. This store has 9 health code violations and honestly I believe it. Not a very clean store but I have seen worse when it comes to grocery stores. If this were I restaurant it would have a B rating at best. When it was time to check out there was a man who was leaving the store with a couple items that were not paid for and staff immediately and rather loudly called him out for it and he kind of caused a scene, over a couple mangos nevertheless. Overall I didn't really like the vibes of this place and don't really see a reason to return unfortunately but a big part of that are the prices like I said. read more

I bought 2 different types of fish that were on ice and both were rotten. They sell rotten and old seafood. That should not be tolerated. It's hard to keep seafood fresh but don't offer rotten seafood. They had other displays where the fish were in rotten fish blood. Maybe their supply chain freezes them when they are already old. So good to have Asian market in the area. I found real Thai hot pepper here.... so spicy & so good, I'm glad I don't have to drive down to Mira Mesa for that anymore. Vegetables & fruits are cheaper than big chain supermarket. Good prices on meat too. Instant noodles isle has so much selections. It's not a very big place, they don't have everything we need for the week so we do shop at other stores as well. But we definitely like coming here at least once or twice a month. read more

I've been waiting for this to open so today is the Grand Opening and I got out there so fast, SOCIAL Distancing is not observed at all so crowded inside. This store should be check with the CDC Guidelines and I noticed that the grocery CART is not being sanitize. For the people who will shop in this store protect yourself. I NEARLY CRIED! There are no large Asian supermarkets nearby in North County! The nearest is Mira Mesa or a drive to Irvine. If you've been to 99 Ranch on Convoy this is not nearly as big but I marveled at how ORGANIZED all the isles are!!! Truly in heaven lol! I'm not sure if 88 is a dumbed down version of 99 but this place is legit equally having all the ingredients you are looking for (ie certain soy sauce or vinegar for a type of Asian cuisine). Staff super friendly plenty of parking and a variety of goods. Keep it up! read more

NO QUALITY CONTROL!!!!!!!! So sad we desperately need an Asian grocery store here but this one falls way below expectations. They sell so much expired & rotten food :( All the fruits and veggies look like they've been sitting there forever and they have so much dirt still on them & looks like they've been dropped or just rotting, looks like they refuse to throw away items no longer viable in hopes of some chump accidentally picks them up. I've come here twice now and it's been disappointing. I also bought expired food & drinks from them before, my latest was 2 naked fruit juices for like $6 for 15 oz and they were both 2 months passed expiration date and made my stomach hurt!!!!! I just assumed no grocery store would sell rotten & expired and didn't both to look at expiration date. The employees never know where anything is when I ask. Went here for the first time yesterday. We don't live in the neighborhood, but are familiar with the various Asian markets in San Diego County. Although this market is much smaller, and there is no food court, we really enjoyed our visit. The market was clean and offered a nice variety of products across various Asian groups. We picked up a good selection of Taiwanese, Filipino, Chinese and Thai items, alongside some good produce. Surprisingly the market wasn't very crowded either. Usually most of the Asian markets have aisles crowded with customers. It was peaceful walking up and down every aisle during our visit yesterday. Next time we're in Oceanside, we'll definitely visit again. read more

This store is small and aisles are narrow so if crowds freak you out then I'd go off hours. I was pretty excited when I found out an Asian market had popped up nearby. I stopped in and boom was hit with the disgusting smell of seafood. I did some shopping; they have all the essentials I usually pick up at other places for around the same price. I also picked up some meat in the freezer section, but when getting home I noticed the entire pack smelled of disgusting seafood like the rest of the store. I really want to give these guys 5 stars but the smell is bad and doesn't advertise freshness when you walk in. Oceanside needed an Asian market badly, I've been the the other ones in oside and they are not kept clean or managed well at all. now instead of driving to Mira Mesa I can get what I need here. Only issue are the prices, which I can understand due to the location and imported goods. It's either a take a 30 min trip or a 5 min one so it evens out. Can't tell yet if this store will replace my biweekly drive to the convoy area but I am optimistic. The prices are fair and cheaper than local grocery stores like sprouts, and Frazier farm. Rotten fish I bought 3 carp fish yesterday they looked ok on the ice and the guy that processed it didnt tell me but the fish had rotten smell , I had to throw all those fishes out. I will try another kind of fish perhaps I will have better luck next time read more

Pretty much the only Asian market in north county. We love going there instead of ranch 99 since it is much closer. Much improvement needed in terms of product quality control though - got two basses today both bad. You would think they can smell it when they pick them out. Finally, I don't have to drive to Mira Mesa or Clairemont for my specialty ingredients! Like many, I'm sticking close to home during the pandemic, so I thought I'd give this place a try for my annual kimchi marathon. They have a decent selection of Asian greens, so I also got some Taiwan spinach for a stir fry. I was surprised to find they have Korean radishes, very different from the usual daikon. I really wish they'd had Korean chives also, but the Chinese kind are a good substitute and usually hard to find around here. All produce looked fresh and cleanly packaged. 88 also has a large selection of the various cooking sauces, fermented soybeans, etc., that go into Asian recipes. A little light on dried foods and bakery items. The seafood looked insanely good; one of these days I'm going to try the yellowtail steak. In short, don't expect 99. But this place is going to be my go-to when I don't feel like driving (I work half a mile from H Mart but I'm working from home). As others have already mentioned: FINALLY an Asian grocery store I don't have to drive an hour for. Our littlest is obsessed with hot taro buns and they have plenty of other flavors in the freezer aisle. And, be still my heart: they even had peteh beans to make Sambal Udang peteh (frozen but beggars can't be choosers). And we'll never run out of crystal noodles again ever. (Not sure why others complained about the seafood smell, there is plenty in the display coolers so I'd be surprised if you would not smell anything but I appreciate that there are people that are a bit more sensitive. Stopped at market on Friday. They had whole Dungeness craps which i love. A little expensive but thought I'd splurge. Well crap was slimy and old. I brought it back on Saturday. Would have liked a refund but owner gave me one a little bigger and assured me it was good. Omg this one was worse. I thought it was going to make me sick if i ate it. From someone who loves and knows crab they are selling bad crab. Since i live in Escondido and don't want another trip to Oceanside i guess ill take the expensive loss. I just discovered this amazing place. I was looking for Aroy-D coconut milk in a can because what I had been ordering on Amazon always came with every can severely dented. They were hard to open and caused safety concerns. I called the market first to be sure they carried it and someone left her cashier's stand to check on it for me and told me on what aisle I could find it. I was so happy to find a good supply of cans, all undented, and the frosting on the cake was that they were more than 50 cents less a can than Amazon! It was a good reminder to me that I should check my local stores before ordering on line. read more
