Very disappointed with my experience. After placing my delivery order, a worker called asking if I had cash for a tip and stated there was a "required minimum $3 delivery tip." This policy was never posted on the website, even though convenience and delivery fees were already added. Because 15% of my order was less than $3, my order was canceled. I can't say enough good things it's a great restaurant and staff is kind and always accurate. To-go orders are always done pretty quick too. I had been driving past this place for what seemed like forever. I finally stopped in to try it. I have a nose for good food places. This place did not disappoint. I wanted take out but I could see the restaurant was busy for lunch. I ordered the lunch special for Eggplant in garlic sauce , egg drop soup, and fried rice. It was so yummy! My plate came with white rice and had to explain I ordered fried rice and then i didn't get the hot and sour soup and had to ask for it. I've dined at 888 - the original location off Woodridge - since 2005. I'm not sure when this newer Wayside @ 45 location opened, but it's definitely an upgrade (though I liked the original cafe's quaint charm). There are a handful of 888 ("triple eight") locations across Greater Houston. This is where we usually dine in or order delivery. They're best known for their steamed or fried chicken or pork dumplings. Get the #8 chicken in hot sauce dumplings (only comes in fried). It's a must for any order. From there, they have all of your usual Chinese cafe staples, including some szechuan dishes. I like that they also featured a vegetables and bean curd section of their menu; and their house specialties include whole red snapper, snapper, red fish and other atypical items you'd see on a the menu at a casual Chinese cafe. Insider tip: There is a "Chinese menu" that you can request. It has more items that you won't find on the regular restaurant menu. It's all in Cantonese with brief descriptions in English. Cause the kitchen doesn't like doing small sides spicy. It's to much work. Wow, what happened to giving the customer what they want. I had to buy a whole meal just for spicy stir fried green beans. Let's start with the waiter cause he was great and deserves a shout out. Romeo was very nice. He was attentive, quick, and very helpful. I stopped by this place on a whim and I really liked it. It's surprisingly large and there was a decent crowd for a Wednesday at 6 pm. The inside was clean and well maintained. The food came out quickly and was right. You'll find all your American Chinese fare here including Kung Pao chicken, sesame chicken and more. I ordered the hot and sour soup. I thought the small size was a generous portion for what I paid. It came with fried wontons. I ordered the mango chicken and was pretty satisfied based on what I expected. The mangos were slightly underripe but I enjoyed the dish. Again the portion size was generous. The meal ended with a sliced orange. It was a nice touch that I really appreciated. The orange was tasty and expertly peeled. The kind of thing you expect to find in a bougie brunch place. This place is a great value in an age when that is incredibly rare. The service is terrible here. Twice they have charged me without actually providing my food while ordering through their website. The first time it let me order through their website and the restaurant was actually closed. They charged my card and refused to provide me a refund. I ended up going through my bank to stop the payment. Second time months later I tried again and this time I got part of my order. They refused to give me a refund and said that the door dasher stole my food so I had to take it up with door dash. Since I ordered the food through their website DoorDash said they could not refund me the money because it was not done through their app. These people are broke crooks. Now that you've read all the reviews for American style Chinese dishes, I'm going to review an actual dish from the Chinese menu. I know it's hard to believe but I actually went to a Chinese restaurant to eat Chinese food. I did order an egg roll but what can I do it's a guilty pleasure even if it isn't home made and taste like a lot of other restaurants around the area. My main dish was the shredded chicken with Thai peppers and cilantro. I used to eat this dish all the time at their original location on Winkler so I will compare it to what it used to be. Ok, that did tasted almost exactly as I remembered. I love it! So my decision is to give them five stars for now. I would give the 4.5 but that's not an option. I'm not sure why people complained about the quantity or prices because they seemed the same to me. If you were fond of the items on their old Chinese menu, I suggest you return your patronage and try it out. read more

We ordered orange chicken, general tso chicken, lo mein, fried rice, and crispy spring rolls. The orange chicken and general tso chicken was pretty bad. It just did not taste good and we didn't end up eating very much of it. The lo mein and fried rice were ok, not great. The spring rolls were good however. I've ordered and received delivery from 888 on Wayside multiple times. Never ever had a problem, food was great, drivers were friendly, and I always tipped well. However, today was much different and I don't think I'll be giving them my business again as a result. I put in an online order like I usually do, it said it'd take 90 mins, which wasn't an issue. Though with the amount of times I've ordered (easily 15-20) it's usually never THAT long. By the time it was an hour and a half later, I called and spoke to a woman on the phone asking about the order. She put me on hold for almost 5 minutes, and told me it would be there shortly. I said thank you. She was honestly rude and very short. 30 minutes later it still hadn't come. I called again, the same woman answered, and I asked again. She put me on hold for 5 minutes again. Eventually a young man answered and I just asked for a refund. Because at that point it had been over 2 hours and I just didn't care for the food anymore. At that point I got a call which ended up being the delivery driver saying he'd be here soon. At this point we don't even want the food anymore and just want our money back. At this point I was tired of doing with it, to which my girlfriend wanted to talk with them. So she did. She asked for a refund and was put on hold 2 different times for about 10 minutes total. During that time the food arrives. She said she wanted her money back, to which the woman she was speaking to (supposedly the manager) said that they wanted the food back to do so. We couldn't send the food back as the delivery driver had already left in the amount of times we were put on hold. The woman offered a partial discount on a future meal, which at this point we don't even want to give our business to this location ever again. So we denied, and asked for a refund, to which she insisted on us calling our bank to charge back the total, rather than give us a refund. It went back and forth for awhile until we gave up as it was clear that they weren't going to cooperate. I'm unsure of what's going on at this location, but with some of the reviews it's clear that there's an issue with staff and/or management as of late. Save yourself the time and stress. Go to a different restaurant, or at least a different location. read more

Based on the food alone, this place is 5 stars. Everything I've had so far has been hot, fresh, and so good! My favorites are any of the dishes with garlic sauce. Their fried rice actually tastes like authentic fried rice with the green onion, egg, and white onion. The meat is high quality and tender. Service is quick and friendly. The only negative thing I can really say about the place is that their parking lot is small and they need more bussers to clean tables during the lunch rush but I came for the food and not the ambience.
