Heard about this place for a really long time. Maybe it used to be better. It was just okay to me. Too many better fried wings in the city. Wings were dry. The fried rice had salad sized shrimp in it. The pink ones. I just rather not have shrimp if that's what you give me. I ended up adding real shrimp and garlic sauce to my leftover rice the next day. They all say original in the name, and frankly, I don't know which one is since they have a few different locations. Back in my college days, my friends and I would come to take advantage of the cheap prices and hefty portions. As an adult, I worked in the area of this particular location and my coworkers and I would come every so often. It was definitely nostalgic and the food still tasted the same. My palette has also changed so now it's just ok food to me. Their wings and rice is indeed pretty darn good. It's not gourmet by any means, but it is solid. I've also had a few of their very Americanized Chinese dishes and it isn't bad at all. This place is far from fancy, but sometimes the hole in the walls have some great dishes. I love Timmy Chan's y'all. Everybody is always saying how Timmy Chan's is ghetto. And yes I agree, but the food is just as good if not better than any other low end Chinese restaurant I've been to. A few months back they had a fire and was closed for a little while. They're back open and ready for business again. Today I went through the drive thru and ordered the Mongolian beef. I wanted some wonton soup, but this location don't sell soup anymore. Everything that I have tried here has been good, the chicken, the lo mein, egg rolls, etc. The restaurant isn't in the best of neighborhoods, but I haven't had any bad experiences here. A hometown favorite! I grew up eating Timmy Chan, it's a love-hate relationship. Although it's much more love than hate. Actually no hate at all. I love the wing dinners, the general Tso's, egg rolls, and especially the fried rice!!! I could eat the rice by itself, no sides, no gravy, no add ins. Lol plain fried rice. This cash only, local gem of ours in Houston is sure to impress when you're showing one of your "out of town" friends some Houston cuisine. The wing dinners, when fresh are always juicy and seasoned to perfection, the general Tso's chicken is out of this world and deserves an award. Timmy has fast food on lock. The portions are always large enough to share, and if you're eating by yourself, for a few bucks you could eat one meal throughout an entire day. Now, my first time going here was good! It was a five, for sure. The the wings were fried well with a nice cooked batter. The potato wedges were fries with a nicely coated texture on how they were cooked. I truly enjoyed how the wedges came apart with the crusted wedge flavor, almost reminding me of a creole or southern flavor fry. (1 month ago) I gave it a four because today I ordered the same thing, but instead of the awaited hopeful potato wedges, I receives fries this time. They were cooked well. I could have added more salt and pepper, but is good for those who have the option to add if needed. The ketchup added remaining flavor need without extra salt. My step brother years ago let me try some of his food from there and thought it was good. I never a stopped by due to the word fried. Watching calories over the years, here and there. Portions are huge but for the love of god don't get anything with shrimp... they're sickeningly pink and taste so strange. 10/18/2019 called for a pickup order of their famous chicken wings rice and gravy around 11:15am. They open at 11am so I knew we would get some fresh wings. My buddy went to pick them up and when he got them back to us the wings look like the had been under a heat lamp from the night before. Gravy had a burnt smell and rice was gummy. Never going back to this one. I hope this review will let them know not to give customers old food from the day before. I'm on a mission to finish one of these wing dinners in one sitting, the closest I got was 3 bites away. But on my last bite I just was too full and did not want any more rice. Oh and a large punch helps taking everything in. They accept cash only, but they always hook it up on the orders so you will be full from a few dollars. One star because they can't seem to make up their minds. I have eaten here once as I'm not from Houston and my coworker brought me some food said it was a must try. Not going to lie food was hot/fresh and tasty. So last night I figured well I kind of would like some chicken wings with gravy. The business closes at 10pm or at leas that's what it says online. I get off at 9:30. So my coworker called and said hey do you guys take phone order their answer not after 9pm. She said ok well what time is it that stop taking walk in orders the girl whom I never spoke to personally so have no name said 9:45. So of course after getting that info I said ok. Now as someone who doesn't like to go to into a business right at the buzzer I said well I'll leave work 5 mins early so that I can get there a little bit before that 9:45 cut off time. So I work in downtown was in my car and pulling out of the parking lot at 9:30 the business is 3mi away. No surface traffic I drove all the way over there and I say all the way because it was a wasted trip. Pull up in the parking lot at 9:39. Get to the door at 9:40... locked can see people behind counter possibly counting drawers or what have you. So I call and speak to some girl and ask her hey online it says you close at 10. What time do you actually close. To which she replies 9:45. I said ok well yesterday I was told last orders are taken at that time and regardless it's only 9:40 to which she had nothing to say. They turned off the lights and acted as if that was business as normal. I disconnected the line and left the parking lot but the time I was almost to the fwy it was 9:45. I will not be back that's bad business. I could understand if I was trying to walk in at 9:59 but based on info their employees gave I should've been able to walk in and place my order at 9:40.
