The food was mediocre. Clam chowder was paste and French fries cold. The fried fish was not great. Place was packed and noisy.

I tried this local recently and sat at the bar for approximately 10 minutes before I was acknowledged - there were only 4 people sitting at the bar so they were not busy - lady bartender was busy talking to the two male customers; then another staff member came by and these two started discussing their shifts. Then, a couple came in and the lady bartender walked by me and went directly to these new walk-ins. I quietly sat until she came by without a hello and said: know what you want to get? I asked for the menu and ordered my drink. I then ordered the sliders - I do not eat bread so had the chicken only which was very bland. Then, the fish which was okay- do not eat fries etc so do not know how these were. I did not know I had a choice of sides until the customer sitting next to me mentioned it. It appears that the lady bartender - that evening - was selective with whom she chose to be friendly with. Making all customers feel welcomed would go a long way with getting repeat customers. Needless to say, I will hesitate to return to 92nd. read more

Went there on a Tuesday, they have a new server named Paige. She is awesome, intuitive, fast, with a great sense of humor and very friendly. Don't let her professional demeanor fool you, ask her: " are you going to be nice to me today?" And watch her respond. Down to earth kind of person. I judge a chef by his/her soups. My wife and I retired early because we can and decided that since we eat out so much (she doesn't cook) we would just start writing about our experiences. We stumbled on this place after had dinner at the restaurant next door for dinner Thursday night. We have very mixed reviews on this establishment. It seemed to be a friendly environment. A nice gentlemen who did not appear to work there encouraged us to come in and give it a try. We sat down at the tables and it quickly became clear that we needed to go to the bar for a drink. We were greeted by a very sweet bartender, it was a bit too loud to catch her name but she was very sweet and welcoming. It appeared that she was working alone and it was quite busy so it seemed odd that there would only be one bartender working. I suppose the tall bus boy behind the bar could have helped but maybe that is not allowed. In any case, we did not wait long for our drink and I wont accuse her of watering down drinks. We could not stay very long because on a night that was not overwhelmingly busy the music was uncomfortably loud. Now, we cant sing so we wont judge the quality of the singers but besides the very loud music we found the lady that seems run the karoke disturbing. She was clearly intoxicated and we did not appreciate watching her grinding on other patrons. Although, we thought perhaps it was her friend because there was a very small group that seemed to dominate the singing. My wife had nice things to say about the cleanliness and decorations in the women's bathroom which shocked me because the mens' room felt like a jail house. The toilet is leaking, it was dirty. I actually went back to the restaurant to use their bathroom. We did not have an opportunity to eat the food but we will come back on another night to try the food. The bartender suggested we try it on a Monday night when it is a bit quieter and no karaoke and she said she would be working too which was a nice to hear. 1 star is being kind. I had my food delivered so my review is completely based on the food. I ordered the chicken piccata. It was absolutely disgusting. Chicken piccata is supposed to have a butter and lemon sauce and this definitely did not have that taste, it tasted more like chicken marsala. My husband had the linguine and meatballs which he took one bite of and threw it away. The meatballs had an overwhelming taste of parmesan, the whole dish was inedible. My son had the sliders and fries. Sliders were just a burnt, tough piece of meat with no other flavor in between a bun. They didn't even have a piece of cheese. The buns were hard. The fries were soggy and bland. All this food ended up in the trash cause it was so inedible, what a huge disappointment. We spent $38 on this food. Definitely not worth it. I would not recommend the food here to anyone. Trust me, you will regret it. read more

The service took forever, I don't think we have still got our menus and water...when you go to the bathroom, there is no soap to wash the hands, what a joke. Now to the review that everyone cares about, the food. Well I would rather have eaten the menu, I got the "famous" guac burger, and the bun was smashed, the lettuce was shriveled, and the burger patty, my goodness, I have never eaten a worse piece of meat. Zero flavor and it tasted like it had been just taken out of the freezer and thrown on the grill. I have been to this restaurant for lunch many times over the past three years, and I think the food is very good for the price, and the service is always excellent. The waitresses are always attentive, and the food is always prepared the way I like it. The atmosphere is not upscale, but hey, it's a neighborhood bar -- what do you expect! If I could give negative stars I would. I came in with my dad to watch a March Madness game. First, they told us it was impossible to change a TV? (No one else was watching it) The bartender was absolutely rude. Got super annoyed at my dad for asking for a glass for his beer. She gave me the wrong drink twice and got mad at ME for it. We tried the 92nd Street Cafe tonight because being from out of town we didn't want to go to a chain restaurant for a meal we could have had at home, but after the experience tonight I concede we should have gone to any national chain restaurant instead. Both my husband's meal and mine were basically inedible, but the staff appeared to be unconcerned because at no point were we asked how the meal was or why we ate only a small portion of it before pushing it aside. Our server never took an interest in our table, a second round of drinks took forever to materialize, despite the restaurant being far from full of patrons. I am happy to say this will be an adventure in dining I will never again repeat nor would I recommend anyone else wasting their hard earned cash here. read more

My first dinning experience was awful, ordered the eggs Benedict ...recommended by server...when it cam out the ham was white, not pink or even light pink...I told server the ham was bad, he said it's because they sauté the ham...had him remake it without sautéed ham and it was still white like turkey. They ran the card for $30.00 didn't say anything to me about a $30.00 authorization on card, which is illegal they have to tell you about charge on authorization. I called them on Thursday and left a voicemail about charges asking for a manager to call me. No call back. Called on Friday and the bartender said it's a $30.00 charge and it will drop off in 3 days...as of today 6 days later the charge is still on there. Asked for a manager to call back, did I get call? I hate this place. The bar staff is very nice and more attentive than I would expect from a sorta busy dump/dive, but everything else here is for the birds. I was at the 92nd street Cafe about 3 weeks with friends and had a nice time. Received my bill and we split it three ways. 2 of us put it on a debit card and I charged mine. When I received my monthly statemnt and additional $4.00 was added to my bill. When checking with my friends the same thing had happen to one of them also. If an employee is adding to their tip what do you think they are taking from the employer. Not a place I would recommend, unless you plan on paying cash so they can't charge you more. read more

Patron Beware! Happy Hour is in the bar only. Even though we asked the waiter about Happy Hour, he never mentioned prices were Bar Only. $3.70 for a mini bottle of Coors! Really? Generous portions on the website---you're dreaming-----cole slaw side was less than a tablespoon full and 1/2 pound burger was no bigger than White Castle. Wait Staff as rude as it gets. I'm not writing this just to be mean----this really happened and it was the worst American Food Bar Cafe I've ever experienced. My friend/guest with me was so shocked and couldn't believe it. Just to confirm I ate here once before and it was so-so. Came back as it's close to my house and thought we would try happy hour and a burger. Great way to lose friends. I have been coming to the cafe for several years food and service have always been good until my most recent visit on a Friday. I waited over 15 min for service while the bar tender danced around. When I finally got someone's attention I made a comment to her and realized it wasn't her fault cause she had no other help. I think it's great to socialize but the cafe is divey enough, hiring dancers that flirt with the customers was not a great move. My first drink I ordered from the blonde I think her name is kristy was my typical drink made right to order. When I ordered from the dancing queen not so much. I will return because its my local bar and close to home but will not stay if the strip show is going on. We come for the karaoke not the new ghetto dancing. read more
