Where to go for lunch in North Scottsdale that's not a chain and/or too fancy shmancy? Rooster Tavern was the perfect option. We were greeted with eclectic, eye catching decor, nostalgic 90s beats and the comfiest bar seats I've ever experienced. Arrived soon after they opened, and the spot quickly filled up with low key locals. While not cheap, the frozen espresso martini was a delicious pick me up. Paired it with my first ever cheese crisp, extra crispy, which I enjoyed more than I expected. The slider trio was fairly priced and featured pillowy, yummy pretzel buns. Fiancee liked but didn't rave about the pork chili.

Fantastic experience last night with a group of friends. Sat near the band and they were really great... drums, guitars, and voices sounded awesome. Upbeat crowd, cool vibe, and good choices for drinks and food. I love their pretzel bites and one of the best French dips I've had. Our waitress Siraya was very friendly and attentive. The creamsicle martini was also wonderful... mixed it with a splash of peach High Noon and was delicious! Can't wait to go back for football season! Go Chiefs!

Always the best food and service!! Their wings are just outstanding!! Always fresh and flavorful and can get them plain or with several sauces. Takeouts are quick and easy. Fun to eat in as well! Lots of nights with great music!! So fun!!!

My boyfriend and I ate at the Rooster Tavern after an event in Scottsdale. We went on a Friday evening around 6pm. The restaurant was busy but we were seated without a wait. The parties behind us were given wait times, so I do think Friday is one of their busier nights. The inside of the restaurant is eclectic and uniquely decorated. Our server was friendly but wasn't super attentive. Probably given how busy it was. For food we started with the Chicken Wings. These were actually really good - charred perfectly from the grill. We got them sauced with Buffalo. For entrees we both got the AYCE Fish Fry. Fries were excellent, fish was okay, coleslaw was terrible. To be fair, I don't like 90% of coleslaw's; but this one was especially unenjoyable. There is an undertone of sweetness which I believe is from some sort of fruit in there. The fries really were excellent. Perfectly crispy and craveable. The fish was okay. It tasted good but the pieces I got leaned slightly soggy. I think they could have benefited from a little longer in the fryer. The AYCE applies to the fish only. The fries and coleslaw are not part of the deal. Decent spot for traditional bar food and vibes. Would check them out again.

Not your average dive bar... really great food excellent service and really cool ambience. This is my new favorite hangout in Scottsdale. Jessica, my waitress was really awesome and very friendly and helped me pick out some really great things on the menu. I had the Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries. The German pretzel bites with beer, cheese and the churros with ice cream and a few beers and I have to say the prices are excellent and the food is incredibly good and I don't say that lightning most dive bars are just good for the ambience and a few cheap drinks. This place is great all around. Also, their patio area is dog friendly, so I was able to bring my little furry friend with me and he hung out and laid down near the table. Another bonus.

Service is excellent even when crazy busy. Large bar and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Reuben was one of the best I have ever had. Wings and fish sandwich are also favorites of mine there. Definitely recommend this place!

Came in Super Bowl Sunday before the game. Hubs had the Southwest salad which was good but I have other food I like here more. The fish sandwich was good. It was as unique in the fact it had 4 large pieces of cod on it. My son got the Boursin burger , which is always a favorite of ours

What a hidden gem. Stumbled across this place while staying in the area. Food is great. Stop in on Rib night, Meaty and the BBQ sauce is barbecueee, that is what Cody the bartender told me when I asked. He was right. We sat at the bar and enjoyed talking to Cody and staff. They treated us great. One night there was a live band and they played great music. Drinks are great there a they have an awesome selection of bourbon and the prices are fair. A fun place to unwind and meet people who were more than happy to give us points of interest for our vacation. Looking for a place that treats customers with respect, we it's right here.

A fun happening place! We had the all you can eat fish place for lent. Good and fast! Certainly enough for my husband and I. We sat at the bar and were very well taken care of by the team of three competent bartenders! We loved the ambiance and had a television directly in front of us so we could watch the World Baseball Classic. Great fun when USA won!

How many times have I been here? I lost count. I love coming to the Rooster Tavern for good food, vibes, and bingo/trivia. I've been here twice in a week and I'll be back next week too. I can't get enough of the green chile stew and French dip. They're my two favorites. Today, I got the taco Tuesday special and I loved the tacos. They are packed well with slow cooked meats that are so flavorful. I highly recommend stopping by for food, drinks and good times.

The stew is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend.

Ask the Community - The Rooster Tavern

    Is there a children's menu?

I'm not sure but when we were there we saw lots of families eating there.

    IS the Rooster Tavern LGBT-friendly?

It's like a Star Wars bar they serve all types. Great place and owners just opened Cactus Tavern at Cave Creek and Cactus as well.

Is this a Chiefs watch bar?

    Yes

    Do you take reservations?

    Yes

    Do they show UFC fights?

Sorry not sure, I'd give them a call 🙂

Do you have live music on Friday evening?

We do! Hope to see you in for this, thank you for reaching out.

    What's the dog policy?

Sorry for delay but dogs are welcome on the patio and we usually have special water bowls and possibly treats for visiting puppies. We love having them as long as they are accompanied by "responsible adults"?

    Is it suitable for teens?

Yes it is. Tables are in the same room as bar but no worries.

We hosted a surprise college graduation party for my son, and from the very first conversation, Joanne, the entire Handlebar J team, and the Herndon Brothers went to the moon and back to make sure every detail was flawless. This was not just another event for them--this was personal, and it showed in every single moment. The menu was incredible--beautifully presented, thoughtfully curated, and absolutely delicious. The service was seamless, warm, and attentive, making every guest feel genuinely cared for. But what truly set this experience apart was the emotional support and compassion they extended to everyone in attendance. This celebration held deep meaning for our family, especially for a brother who lost his little sister, and the Handlebar J team handled it with grace, sensitivity, and love. It's definitely large enough to split, and she thought it was very good. My son ordered the kids' chicken fingers with fries, and I had the tuna sandwich on wheat with chips. The sandwich was good, although I found the bread a little tough. I usually order the tuna sandwich at Zipps, and I would say their version has more lettuce and tomato, and the bread is softer. Once we received our to-go order, we headed home for lunch. My only complaint was that the to-go containers didn't seem to have any ventilation. The fries in each box were soggy from the trapped moisture by the time we ate them. Other than that, everyone was happy with their meal, and we had a positive experience overall.

The restaurant is small, and in a strip mall with a tiny sign that is easy to miss. It's nice inside, and I wasn't crowded but there aren't many tables. A bit expensive for the portion size, but it was fantastic and worth it. Highly recommend.
