This 99 Ranch (in Fairfax) has been going downhill since we first started coming here (back then, every other week!) in December 2025. It was shiny new. They truly cared about customer experience back then. Now: not so well stocked shelves. Inconsistent products. Something we love (such as lemon jelly) is never restocked. They used to have nice Taiwanese snacks. No more. Completely overtaken by low-quality Chinese snacks. It is no longer reliable. you may find something you like. Next time you come: no more. Probably mismanaged. They should stay consistent. Food court closes early; quality is low (food stale or overcooked; or laid out all day never refreshed). The one highlight was the delicious and rare find: kumquat jasmine tea. Nope. That lady closes up at like 5 pm. Very hard to find; she'd put some out there but none of those pre-made cups are kumquat flavor). They do offer a new Japanese bubble bath tablet package that smells good. They have a huge selection in their food court area! I was surprised! There were claw machines! So fun! There was a noodle spot, a Chinese bun spot, soup spots, boba spot that sells half off too, sushi, pastries, duck, roast pork, etc... SO many options, which is nice because you can order different things. There is a lot of seating areas, and a cute seating area with nice lights. read more

I chose noodles, bitter melon, orange chicken fried chicken, fish in chili oil, and stir dried bok choy. Yes, it's enough food for 3 meals. However, I do not like my food touching. The fish and bitter melon was delicious! The fried chicken and orange chicken pieces were over fried and super dry. Will I get this again? We stopped to get some food here. The market is very large with a good variety of Chinese vegetables, dry goods, meats, seafood and other items. They also have some Korean and Japanese items. The food court on the side is a little disappointing, most shops were not opened and the ones that ate open didn't have customers. The hot deli ran by the market had good business. The have the Cantonese bbq items like roasted duck, pork, and a food line that you can pick a good variety of cooked food for take out. Yes, there are a lot of Asian grocery stores in the area (Hmart, Great Wall, etc), but I find myself going to 99 Ranch the most for the exclusive Taiwanese items they sell. Pros: -I've been able to find almost everything I need for my Chinese/Taiwanese cooking -produce tends to be in better condition than Hmart and Great wall and pretty reasonably priced -no minimum requirement for card (unlike Great Wall) -well labeled aisles for the most part -all raw meat is packaged so the interior doesn't smell as bad as say Hmart or Great Wall -large selection of raw meat and seafood all packaged well -food court area in front with a bakery - the restaurants tend to turnover pretty quickly but the staples are the bakery and Onezo bubble tea shop -Onezo is consistently a great bubble tea shop -have a bbq vendor too for ready to eat food -plenty of the popular Asian snacks -wide selection of seasoning mixes -has an aisle for Asian household goods -interior overall is pretty clean -loads of space for parking Cons: -checkout lines tend to be long with very few open at a time -pretty much no one ever mans the Customer Service counter so any returns/issues you have to wait in line with other people checking out -reward system is hard to cash out on (you have to spend something like $1000 to just $10 savings - literally 1%) -limited alcohol options especially compared to Hmart Wish: -would like them to stock more Japanese beers like Asahi and Sapporo -if only they would carry the New Science Noodle a crisp biscuit Snack 統一 科學麵 read more

I went to Ranch 99 to sample some of the food stalls. I tried 2 stalls. The one in the front to the right call Lilly's dumpling. Tried their large scallion pancake, pan fried buns, and their spicy mung bean noodles salad. The scallion pancake is thick and doughy. Wished it had more scallion. Their pan fried pork buns and mung bean salad is excellent. We also got couple of dim sum entrees at the back hot deli section at the back. We got the steam char sui bao and shrimp stuffed pepper. The better was the shrimp. The bao was very doughy with chopped up char sui. Frozen ones are better. Finally we got some of the roast pig and roast pork. Those were the worst from everything we tried that day. The roast pork is dry and jerky. The roast pig skin looks crunchy but it is actually chewy. I would not purchase anything from the meat hanging stall at all. All self service so remember to get your chopsticks or utensils along with napkins from stalls that you purchase your food. Came here trying to find the viral mango ice cream but it's not here yet so I explore the market a bit. Plenty of parkings, plenty of registers, they also have several places that have food you can grab. My cashier was quick and fast when ringing me up as well. The 99 Ranch in Fairfax is a decent place to find Asian groceries. The selection is a bit more limited than larger markets like Lotte, but it is still decent. They have a Cafe area for pop up restaurants, but the past few times I have been in 99 Ranch they've been mostly vacant with the exception of the Hot Deli, Bakery, and the Boba stall. If your plan is to eat at 99 Ranch I would highly recommend coming early to make sure the food from the Hot Deli is fresh. We've come in the afternoon and most things were gone. What was left was kind of stale and not great. On the other hand, if you come in the morning the dim sum is pretty great. The big Sesame balls filled with red bean and the turnip cakes were our favorite. It's certainly the best price for dim sum that you'll find in Northern Virginia. read more

I visited this 99Ranch Market on a Saturday early afternoon. I left happy being able to buy everything I wanted all in one-go at a wonderful price. I spent total of less than $40 for the trip and the value of everything was just incredible. I was able to churn out more than dozens of pork chive dumplings, 3 different pots of Thai curry, tom kha gai, khao man gai, mechado, care care, nasi goren, palitaw, and everything one could dream of making at home. We drive about good 45 minutes from Maryland just to come here every weekend and it is worth it every time. They also have a wonderful bakery and eatery section as well as incredibly fast checkout. I am really used to the slow checkout service in Maryland so I am blown away by how quickly it is my turn every time. As in there's hardly ever a line even if the parking lot is jam packed with people and it's bustling inside. What also differentiates the 99Ranch store in Fairfax is the friendliness of employees. It isn't like Hmart where you feel like a criminal for asking for something. Yes, the produce aisle might not be the prettiest compared to Hmart but it's still worth the trip. This location is performing BAIT AND SWITCH and FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICES. I live three hours from that store and had a friend go to Nova today. She helped me buy two lobsters. Both with both claws attached and very much alive. She asked for ice since she's traveling far before he weighed and bagged the lobsters and she stopped paying attention after that. I just received the lobsters after her three hour drive back and one of the lobsters was missing a claw and half dead already while the other was still active. I weighed it and my two lobsters are short .565 lb. He definitely switched it while bagging. This is ILLEGAL!! I WILL be reporting to the VA AG office and the Weights and Measures office. My ramen... the worst I ever had. No flavor. No taste. It wasnt that hot. 90% noodles, 5 pieces of duck, scallions, and a huge bok choy leaf... smh never again. The supermarket was well stocked with so many food items! There was one isle full of noodles and anther full of different goodies. Fresh veggies and food at reasonable prices. There was a food court but some of them were not open when we were there on a weekday. There is a bakery inside and a food stall that sells roast meats. Some dim sum were available too. Anytime I'm out this way, I make sure to stop by 99 Ranch. The produce is always top quality and usually cheaper than other grocery stores, and they have a large selection of harder-to-find Asian ingredients. I love coming here to stock up on sushi rice, fancy soy sauces, frozen snacks and more. I also love the Chinese hot bar in the back and the bakery up front. I wish they'd get more restaurants into the food stalls, because I would spend all day here if I could! This is a pretty well stocked Asian supermarket with a great variety of Chinese grocery items - Authentic snacks, condiments, noodles, produce with Chinese vegetables, frozen dumplings and fish balls by the pound for hotpot, Asian beverages, even pots and pans! They also have the best authentic brands for mooncake. On the side a smallish food court that has a bakery with bubble tea, hot steamed buns, popcorn chicken, a variety of noodles and soup noodles, hibachi style dishes, and a hot food deli that serves dim sum items and hot dishes like beef and broccoli, tofu, fried rice and noodles, etc. Definitely a great place for dinner takeout. Not only did they have it but I also found some other candies I not been able to find anywhere else. I am always in awe over how fresh the produce is!!! It is always fully stocked with a wide variety of offerings. I spend a lot of time walking up ad down the aisle as there is so much to take in and I feel like I find something new on every visit. I tend to come early in the am to avoid the crowds as it can get pretty packed in no time and its always busy, especially on the weekends. No lie, visiting the brand new 99 Ranch Market was the most fun I've had in months! I am no stranger to Asian grocery stores but this West Coast based chain brings something new to our grocery carts! I spent a full hour walking up and down the aisles mesmerized by all of the new drink, snack, and frozen food options available. Everything was so cutely packaged -- they even had frozen bao shaped like little piglets. I almost died from all the cuteness. Overall the store was pretty easy to navigate but I wish they would do something about the food court area. It was SLAMMED when I went and while they had social distancing stickers on the floor it was quite hard to figure out where the start of one line was and where it ended. BEST FISH in the DMV We eat a lot of fish in my house. My Desi/Indian husband is a huge seafood lover, he grew up in a coastal city of India where the fish is freshly caught and the price is extremely reasonable. We love 99 Ranch's Fish. They have a good selection of fish, in their fish department in Gaithersburg. The fish department in Fairfax is fantastic. The VA store is a newly opened location and their fish department is Out of this World. Living in Maryland, it's relatively easy to find MD Blue Crabs in the Summer. Finding fresh fish can be a challenge. We use to frequent another Asian Market a few years ago but the selection of fish got worse and worse, until we finally stop buy fish from them. Thank you 99 Ranch for bringing fresh fish, seafood and delicious vegetable back into my life. Came in to look for something in particular that was Middle-Eastern in nature and they had absolutely none of that type of food. In fact, they only have Asian style of foods, restaurants in the food court areas, and proteins. The place smelled of the fishy stuff they have. Service was ok. This used to be super H Mart but honestly this blows it out of the water, and I'm not speaking just as a former California Stan. Everything is hella spacious - all the meats and veggies were super clean plus some of the bougiest soy sauces I've seen. Plus the food court alone looks stacked - Mian pulled noodles, a bakery, plus a couple more. Homemade boba will be coming soon so I'll be excited for that. I was super excited when this opened up. It seemed to be east meets west, but the last couple visits, can't say the thrill factor is there. The fruit and vegetables are more expensive, and I didn't find the selection that they used to have. Yes I might have to re-evaluate this in the future, but I don't think it's supply related. What is good is the tilapia. This is one of my favorite fish to cook, and here you'll find it fresh. It's always on hand, and goes well with steamed vegetables especially. Yes there are some ridiculous rumors about this species, and all of them have been debunked. I will continue to buy tilapia here, and also the shrimp here and there. One of the OG Asian grocery markets, but still keeping up with the times. Nice package deals for catered banquet style meals for large groups during holidays and fresh produce. Butcher and seafood section does not have a strong odor like some of the older establishments, also carries diverse selection of newer products as well as the classics. A wonderful bakery with fresh breads and pastries: cake rolls including passion fruit, green tea, and durian, Taiwanese toast in red bean, taro, and carrot varieties, and expertly decorated cakes that rival the aesthetic of Korean bakeries. Food court includes a Taiwanese noodle shop and boba tea joint that are above average, Filipino fast casual joint recently folded, and I think there may be one other that I can't recall possibly Japanese ramen or sushi. Why 5 stars? The all you can stack mixed plate for $10.59. You pick a bed of rice, rice noodles, or lo mein, and then the fun begins where you begin to assemble your mounting volcano of anything they have available in the hot bar and as long as they can close the lid on the square styrofoam tray, you have yourself enough food to last a minimum of 2 if not 3 meals. My strategy is to start with a layer of the saucy items as level 1 to get absorbed into the noodles/rice, grilled meats for level 2, veggies for level 3, and then fried items like wings, prawns, and fish up top at level 4 to avoid sogging them up. Pro-tip: be kind to the folks behind the counter, I witnessed quite a bit of verbal abuse especially from the Asian clientele (disgrasians), if they don't get your order right or forget something, either let it slide or gently ask them to make it right since they will do so without attitude or objection. read more

I got the Adobe pork belly pancit which was amazing :) I do wish there was more veggies and pork belly. The dim sum bar was okay. A bit expensive for what the dumplings were. The shrimp dumplings were okay and alittle cold, the fried spring rolls tasted the best and the pork bun was just alright. Def. Go with the other restaurants then the bar. It was good to try though! 3/5/22 For some reason, I did not think of this place as an Asian Market. No, it is more of an international market, but most of the clientele are Asian/ Asian American. The other thing I noticed is Hispanics and Asian seem to dominate the work force. I wonder why other ethnicities don't work at these stores as much. Simply answer?, Or is there more to it? Just a thought. A lot of time was spent in the vegetable section and I was feeling cold from the Italian Ice I drank. Some times I dislike shopping with my wife, because it takes a long time to make up her mind on what she wants. Sometimes as a guy or a gal it can be a hit or a miss trying to help your partner. Looking around the store, I saw a well oiled machine at work. The stocking, shelving and organization was spot on. I don't recall seeing dirty floors either. There were some price increases, but I could tell for everything. I did notice the Vanilla Panda cookies went up a dollar though. The portable stoves I saw here makes me think of my characters using several tool to cook a meal while camping in the wilderness for special meals. I did not see the mini propane tanks to use for the portable stoves. I wonder where they were placed. These portable stoves were sold for $29.99. The insides of the stove are Black and Purple... just kidding. They were black and red. I haven't eaten the food at these mini restaurants, but I might one day. In the meantime, we will be back. I just hope the fish smell isn't around when you enter the store next time. It might be coming from one or more of the restaurants, but if it isn't, No bueno. read more

It's been almost 8 months since I've been to this location. Most of the restaurant stalls no longer existed. The dim sum carry out was open and already serving at 10:00am.
