I've only ever taken out because I live very close to this location and want to get groceries at the same time. I haven't tried everything on their menu but their bouillabaisse with their garlic butter rice on a cold day is excellent and comforting- it's a very large amount of food and I usually have leftover for the next day. I've also tried lemon caper salmon with the mixed green salad (sometimes I'll just get s&p only)- also very good! The mixed green salad comes with a yummy balsamic vinaigrette. The fried fish is fresh but I don't think I'm a fan of the batter. The fries are like what another reviewer said- boardwalk sort of type- but the cooked parsley potatoes are better. Overall the prices are good for the value that you get compared to other sit down seafood restaurants! I need to try the fried shrimp and calamari next. Give it a try :) read more

Walk to the back area and look for a bar. There you'll find most if not all the bar stools occupied with people feasting on fresh oysters, fish, and a variety of fresh seafood cooked to order. For me, I wait for Fridays where the oysters are special priced and flown in from the coast. The fried oysters are perfectly breaded and crispy. Stopped by for lunch after getting so many 12 for $12 oyster ads. That promotion is not for Today's Catch, rather the oysters at the seafood counter (and no, they do not shuck it for you). I was confused because they used to have a great happy hour special (years ago) for $1 oysters and $4 wine. I guess not in this economy. :( Despite raising menu prices in general, Today's Catch at Whole Foods is still competitively priced and a great bargain. The food is freshhhh and delicious. My friend and I split a dozen oysters ($20 special), the calamari ($9), and fried fish sandwich ($13) which included fries and coleslaw. That's legit. The oysters were fresh, brine-y, and sweet. Some slurps were saltier than others, but I savored each one. Calamari fried in front of you- light, crunchy batter. The cocktail sauce is noticeably good and had the faintest whisper of horseradish. My guess is it's their 365 cocktail sauce. Yum. Calamari used to be $6 (which sounds made up now) but $9 is still great. This would be $20 at a restaurant. My friend wanted to try the fish sandwich- also delicious. Cod had big flakes of white fish and had a thin crunchy batter. The remoulade sauce went really well with it. The French fries were really good, starchy, and better than I expected (my expectations always be low). They remind me of extra well done in-n-out fries in the best way possible or skinny boardwalk fries. It's even better doused in malt vinegar. Service was low maintenance and very friendly. You can easily just flag someone down if you need/want something. Ambiance-- you're sitting at a circular bar in the back of Whole Foods facing the seafood counter or people shopping. People come here to eat good food not so much for a Michelin dining experience. If it bothers you, pretend you're sitting at an open kitchen watching cooks flash fry things or people watch. The food is so worth it. I love coming here. OH and while you're here pick up a slice of mango yuzu cake on your way out. It's a seasonal special that's delicious and not too sweet- the lemony, mango-y cake is so yum. Thank me later. Side story: my friend told me she did the 12 oysters for $12 special and had the most miserable time trying to shuck them. Unless you're experienced, it's worth it to buy them on the half shell. We've dined here several times and have done to-go orders (placed the order and then went around and did our grocery shopping). My husband and I are big fans of the "Build Your Own" where you select your choice of seafood (wild caught and farm raised) and style (sesame miso, lemon caper, Baja, and southern) which also comes with two sides (rice, salad, potatoes, fries, or coleslaw. They even have a kids menu with fish and chips that our kids enjoy and devour! Additionally, they also appetizers such as raw and fried oysters, fried shrimp, sandwiches, and other fried seafoods. I've also heard rave reviews about their bouillabaisse! If you're dining in, you can also partake in alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine. When dining in, you can sit down and they'll take your order for you. You'll receive a receipt which you'll pay upfront, where to go orders are also placed. Service is always friendly! Not a good night for us at Today's Catch. We've been going there for many years and our meal today was disappointing to say the least. To start with Hubby's salad was very limp - not crispy at all. My calamari was ok. Things went downhill from there. Hubby's bouillabaisse was very watery and tasteless -- such a big change from how it was many years ago when it was thick and flavorful. To make matters worse, his rice was burned in spots. I'm sure the waitress saw that but didn't bother to removed the burnt section or give us a serving without burnt areas. My crab cake seemed smaller than I've ever had and my Caesar salad was tasteless. My potatoes were ok and probably the best thing on my order. First...this hidden gem is in the back of the Whole Foods Market near the meat and seafood department. WOW, I was hungry and created my own combo which ended up being a little more expensive but well worth it. I ordered the fried oyster appetizer and the pan seared scallops with French fries and coleslaw. The seating is all high/bar style seating so not for handicap or inseam challenged individuals (short) like me. The food is cooked to order, and despite that, the service is usually quite quick, but once or twice I've felt that they may have forgotten my order. I love their fried oysters over a Caesar or house salad. The batter is light and not overly greasy. The portions are generous. Their fries are really good, freshly made with unpeeled potatoes. And they offer malt vinegar as a condiment, yum! The tables look and feel like they could use a good cleaning, so I prefer to sit at the counter. (Which also helps to prevent the forgotten order problem I mentioned.) One cool option: they will prepare any fish that you buy from their seafood counter for $7. I've never tried the service, because I like the options at Today's Catch, but I can see why it would be appealing. read more

If you're looking for the full restaurant vibe with servers meeting your every whim, this isn't the place for you...but...if you want no frills, super fresh seafood at very reasonable prices you gotta make a trip to Whole Foods Fair Lakes. The place is absolutely bustling, it not the kind of place to linger; but just sit down, order and or place your to go order and feast. The seafood is fresh, if you do not see anything of interest on the menu, you can select fish from the market and they will cook it for you. Scallops, oysters are out of this world, fish and chips are delicious and the Bouillabaisse is chock full of seafood in a rich delicious tomato broth. The one downside is the bread was not very good. Today's Catch was a great surprise and even better value located in Whole Foods right next to the seafood counter. I ordered the fried shrimp plate which is very good. At least 10 jumbo size juicy shrimp perfectly fried and seasoned with french fries hand cut. It also comes with coleslaw and a special kind of sauce that they make. I myself only needed the lemon squeeze, and Cholula. All of the servers were very pleasant and friendly. You order at the counter and sit at your table or the bar around the cooking area. Sometimes you will have to go to the counter once your food once your food is ready, when not so busy they will bring it to you. Either way you're in for a delightful treat. The pictures on this post are of my second serving. I was having such a good time people watching that I had to order another plate of shrimp. Couldn't beat the price, great value for the shrimp being so fresh. At $15 it was a lot less than they could've charged. Next time I'm in the area I will be sure to stop at least once. read more

Alright I have to admit...weirdest experience ever! I had no idea this wasn't a restaurant. It's basically like a food court inside the Whole Foods. Pretty cool idea but it is kind of different to be eating your food next to the frozen shelf or any other isle for that matter. The place is hopping with customers...in-fact I noticed lots of folks meeting up with their friends here. I'm not sure how that conversation even comes up!! Hey you want to meet at the grocery store and have dinner...what!! Anyway, I had the raw oysters which you can't beat the price of a full Dozen for $20 bucks. However, you can tell it's not a restaurant because they left a lot of grit in them, but the taste was still really yummy. They also serve about any food you can buy to take home they will make it for you, plus they have wine and beer. I would definitely eat here if I was rushed for time or starving when I showed up to shop, but I'm not sure if this would be my Friday night hangout. I placed an order for pick up on Friday evening for my daughter and I, as I didn't feel like cooking. We ordered a cod and chips with green salad for myself and grilled salmon, with potatoes and Caesar salad for my daughter. Food was prepared really quick, while I did my shopping, it was all fresh tasting. My daughter got a good sized salmon serving, but my cod was tiny, all the sides were plentiful. I wish they had more options for sides, as they only have salads, potatoes and rice. Some more options like green beans, carrots and Mac and cheese would be appreciated. I will definitely order from here again, but will probably need to order a double cod portion. read more

It wasn't entirely clear to me from other reviews that this restaurant is INSIDE a Whole Foods. Not only inside, but DEEP inside like all the way back in the store. So you have people meandering around with shopping carts while you dine, which is a little strange but hey, I'm open to new things. Most of the dining area is bar-style, but there are some tables nearby as well. They have alcohol too, which is nice. The food is made in a kitchen right in front of you (not teppanyaki-style, but close enough that you can see the chefs work). There was even an acoustic band playing when we were there. It was good food and a unique experience. Due to the layout it cannot be considered private in the least, but that wasn't a downside to me as this was just a casual lunch. As a bonus, I got some groceries on the way home too - win-win! read more

I was out at the Winery of Bull Run for a friends bon voyage bash with my hubby and a another friend visiting from NYC. We all agreed it sounded good and we would give it a try. Please be aware that if it is your first visit to this Whole Foods it may take you a second to find Today's Catch. There is a sports bar area near the front of the Whole Foods with TV screens and some seafood items listed which through us off but we decided to do a full location walk to be sure. Today's Catch is near the back left corner of the Whole Foods. It is not separated with barriers. There is a cooking area surrounded by bar seating and a check-out register with a few tables and chairs nearby. We started with the staff recommended fried clams (very fresh -- honestly the first time I can say I really enjoyed eating fried clams). Hubby and I got the shrimp po-boy and our friend got the staff recommended bouillabaisse. Everything was very tasty, including the fries, they did not taste like an afterthought, they were good fries. We did a walk around the circle before we left and I saw a number to dishes I look forward to trying. You could tell this place was popular not just for eating on sit but also for pick-ups. There seemed to be a lot of folks at the cash register either picking-up or placing take-out orders. I am happy say that Today's Catch got thumbs up from everyone. read more

After close to two years of telling ourselves that we should check this place out, the husband and I finally had dinner at Today's Catch a few days ago. Located close to the seafood counter in Whole Foods, the bar was fairly busy on a Tuesday evening so we waited about 10 minutes before a server could assist us with our orders. It took another 10 to 15 minutes for our food. The food was decent, portions generous and reasonably priced. I had a wild caught cod ($14) with lemon caper sauce and saffron aioli while the husband had the Shrimp Po'Boy ($9). The cod was overdone which was a pity as it was such a nice chunk of fish. I had one of the shrimps which fared better than the fish as it was juicy with a light layer of crisp batter. There was a long line at the cashier/takeaway counter when we were done eating so it was yet another long wait to pay. PS: If you're starving, this isn't the fastest available option when it gets crowded so don't get hangry if you have to wait for close to half an hour from the time you get seated to the time you get to dig in. read more

I was at Wholefoods with the wife to shop for fresh peanut butter. The packed food place caught my eye with sights of good seafood, as I walked past the open dining layout. So the we decided to sit and try this out again. I had only been here before for the oyster special. Located in the back of a huge Whole Foods, you will find the Fish Market. They offer foods such as fried oysters, fried fish, fried scallops, po boys, and the catch of the day. They also have a bouillabaisse that is amazing! One thing special that they do is that you can pick out any seafood/fish from the fish market counter and take it to the counter where they will cook it any way you like! I find it cool that on the weekends there is a folk or blues type act playing. Sure it is weird watching people push grocery carts through the eatery but it is worth it! The only reason for three stars is because on my last visit, the oysters were a bit on the greasy side and the cole slaw was rancid. They do have awesome fries, but the rancid slaw liquid had flooded the plate and ruined the fries. When we mentioned it to them, just got a shoulder shrug indicating they didn't care. Specifically I come here on Oyster & Shrimp Wednesday nights where they have Oyster deals that are fine. It used to be $1 each, not sure if it has gone up yet. It gets crowded and can take a while for them to shuck, but its not bad. Oysters plus a few beers without tipping is a good deal. It is hard for an organic hippie spot to mess with meat which is why this is the best place to eat here. Just about everything else in the store has an off taste (but don't tell the WF cult people that) I don't usually get anything here other than Oysters, but everything looks pretty good. (I'm not a fan of the mussels). On weekends they will have some music out there. It is weird as heck but its ayite. This is the best stop on the Whole Foods bar crawl. The venue is an open kitchen with seating near the seafood section (surprise surprise) and serving made to order fish and seafood dishes. My favorite dish here is definitely the bouillabaisse. It comes with a huge bowl of flavorful tomato saffron broth with mussels, scallops, and whatever fresh fish comes in that day; usually tuna, salmon, and cod. I've had these dish before with shrimp and I just think the seafood and fish varies day by day. I love the firm french bread it comes with so I can soak up all that tomato broth. This huge dish is only $13 and very affordable for all that seafood. I've had their fish & chips and the fish was flaky and fried well. They make the fish as ordered and it comes hot from the stove to the table. This past visit we had the Monday Mussels for $8 and it came with a good amount cooked in white wine and very delicious to scoop with the bread. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Tips aren't required but welcomed. Of course I usually add tip because service is awesome and I'm just too used to American dining etiquette. read more
