Wow! I did some previous research and called ahead because I was interested in picking up fish for hand rolls and sushi. The customer service is phenomenal! It's a family owned business and you can definitely feel the family atmosphere! I provided the amount of folks I wanted to feel and the variety of fish I was hoping to pick up! The yellowtail, tuna, salmon and scallops were buttery and flavorful! Everyone was raving about how fresh the seafood was and how it was better than eating at a sushi restaurant! People are nice, service is good. It's a small establishment and not a sit down restaurant. Order over the counter and enjoy at home. I've gotten live lobster from here and steamed them at home during the summer- had a great experience with fresh lobsters! I recently tried the lobster rolls and it was fine. I'm not sure if I'll be back for the rolls, but I will for live lobsters. Lobster rolls are $20.20 for 1. They can assemble it for you, or you can take them home, toast it and assemble. I recommend the latter and add butter to the rolls. I also added a big squeeze of lemon before eating. I've had better, but in a pinch these are good. I think I'm partial to Connecticut lobster rolls. Out of curiosity, I weighed each container of meat. One came out to 4.58 oz and the other 4.66 oz (including the container, which on its own was about 0.7-0.8 oz). Loved the bread- soft and even better with the slight buttery toast. On another note, I know it's not peak season for anything, but the fish under the glass counter looked a little gray and sad. I will be back during the summer. :) read more

There are signs to direct you to the store since it can be kind of hard to find but there was plenty of parking and I was surprised to find a place with such fresh seafood so close by! My wife and I stumbled across Lobster Maine-ia at a local farmers market. At the time, the stall offered very high quality, sushi-grade fish such as bluefin toro, kanpachi, and king salmon at prices less than competitors such as H-Mart and Wegman's sell inferior fish. Since then, I've visited their retail location tucked away in a nondescript Chantilly office park numerous times to purchase fish for sushi and poke. The products on offer remain high quality and very reasonably priced. In addition to finfish, the shop sells a variety of shellfish (including, of course, lobsters), caviar, and sea urchin. Check the website beforehand to view weekly specials, which enhance the value significantly. The staff here couldn't be nicer, and their passion for seafood shows. I'm not a huge seafood eater, but my husband is. We were visiting the DC area and searched for the best shellfish, this popped up so we decided to give it a try. It's truly a hole in the wall. In the middle of an industrial area and basically a small fish market. They had some really good looking fish options. There wasn't anything special about the menu - order a cold roll. We usually have warm lobster rolls so this was a first! It was a pretty good roll, good price for fresh lobster. Of course warm would have been preferred, and butter for dipping would have made it even better. Tucked away in an industrial park like location, this place is a hidden gem. All of their seafood is impeccable. And the selection is unmatched. It doesn't hurt that the people there are some of the nicest you will ever meet. Highlights include softshell crabs (fresh in season) , Tuna, Salmon, and, of course, Lobster. You can't go wrong here. We were running errands last Friday and I asked my husband if he wanted breakfast or a lobster roll... we finally made it We ordered two lobster rolls to go and they asked if we were eating them right then so I guess the prep is different if you want them for later. $20 each but it was money well spent! Amazing place with delicious lobsters. Great communication! They respond to emails promptly, even during busy times like New Year's Eve! Lobsters aren't cheap, but this place does it right. I've only ordered twice for New Year's Eve, but occasionally I feel like an excellent, juicy lobster, and I would never hesitate to get it from here. It is $5 to steam/boil them, but since I live in an apartment, it is easier for them to do it than for me. On New Year's Eve 2021, I ordered 3.3 lb lobsters, two of which were so big I broke my cracker, but what an amazingly delicious and huge meal. Love this place - I have visited four or five times and had the lobster rolls every time, and they are always fantastic. I don't believe there is a better value to be had in lobster rolls anywhere in the DMV - $15 for a quarter pound of top notch lobster meat with just the right amount of mayo in a top-sliced hot dog bun. I wanted to serve them for dinner at home and even did the math on just buying their lump lobster meat and making up my own rolls but it's not even worth it; the difference is pennies at best. They packaged up the lobster meat and the rolls separately for me so they wouldn't get soggy and they were perfect that night. One of these days, I will try their other fresh seafood and fully expect it to be every bit as good. Today I made my first visit to Lobster Maine-ia and I got there in the perfect timing! Not only because my Livingsocial deal was expiring soon, but they were doing "Holiday Open House" offering Samuel Adams, Heineken, local Virginia wine, seafood chowder, lobster, shrimp, etc., all complimentary! On top of that, the people who helped us all had a very inviting nature. I ordered two lobster rolls and a lobster bisque to go. (this is not an eat-in kind of place.) The young man who helped me asked if I wanted the lobster meat separately so I could toast the roll, put butter and assemble the lobster roll at home just before eating. I said "yes" and I thought that was very nice of him to ask that. As a result, when I finally ate my lobster roll at home, (with McDonald's fries on the side.) it was DELICIOUS! The big chunk of lobster meat was tender and tasted and felt fresh in my mouth unlike the one that I had at the famous place located in Georgetown and Chinatown. We have ordered at least 30 lobsters from Lobster Maine-ia in the past and all of them were outstanding. This time however, was terribly disappointing. Our order of 4 x 1.5 lb Firmshell lobsters wasn't firmshell at all. You could crack through the claws with the slightest press of your thumbs. What a hidden gem! Found this place on Yelp after visiting the Smithsonian Air and Space museum on a Saturday. It's not too far from there so it may provide a place to go for a quick snack. I ordered two lobster rolls just for myself because on this day it was a little cheaper than buying just one. The two rolls were on hot dog buns. They were packed full of lobster meat! In my experience lobster rolls are small and expensive, and although these too fit that description I would say they were definitely worth it! So delicious! Lobster Maine-ia is not a sit restaurant or even a restaurant at all. It's a place to buy fresh seafood for you too cook at home, but they happens to sell lobster rolls. You always have to buy what they display on the glass where it is too small or too large and have to haggle them for exact, which they never get it right. They always haggle to sell the display with the typical attitude it is close enough and we can't cut it more of it. 1lb order doesn't equal to .75lb or 2lb order for 1.83lb with 3 cuts are crap. I've been driving past their signs for years and I never knew exactly where they were until today. They are basically behind the Habitat for Humanity "ReStore" building. We've bought a lot of fish here: tuna (bluefin and yellowfin, salmon (Scottish and Faroe Islands), swordfish, flounder, Chilean seabass, clams, oysters, lobsters, scallops, shrimp (Argentine red shrimp and North Carolina shrimp). Everything has been excellent. The tuna, salmon, and scallops are good for sushi. Other fish is for cooking but is very fresh. It's all cut and handled well too. They offer you ice for every order, chat about recipes, etc. Very well-run place that obviously cares about its customers and enjoys the craft. Prices are competitive with premium supermarkets and often less (sushi-grade salmon $16-$18/lb, tuna $30-$35/lb, sea scallops $28-$38 depending on size. Everything is generally better than Wegmans or Whole Foods. These guys are great. read more

I ordered lobsters for July 4th. Though advertised as being closed Sundays they had hours to accommodate the holiday. They steamed my lobsters and packaged them for transport in my cooler. I had a craving for a lobster roll on a recent Friday night after reading a review of Subway Canada's Lobster Roll ($8.00 for 6-inch. not that it matters since I'm not in Canada and wouldn't order a lobster roll from Subway anyway, unless I was totally desperate). We had other plans that evening, so I chose this place because (a) I wanted an authentic lobster roll and (b) I needed it quickly (hence the Subway comparison) because I didn't have time to do the whole restaurant thing. I didn't see a way to order lobster rolls on their online form, so my husband and I just decided to walk in and order the rolls. In retrospect, calling first might have been a good idea. The employees were quite friendly and their location, despite being tucked away, was easy to find because of all the sassy signs they have in the area. I also used my Specialicious coupon for an extra pound of lobster salad (same lobster they put in the lobster rolls), so I could make sandwiches at home the next day. The pound of salad was $58.97 regular price. 1/4 pound of lobster salad goes into each of their rolls, so depending on the special, it may just be cheaper to purchase more lobster rolls instead. With all of that being said, the rolls were delicious. 1/4 pound is plenty for a sandwich *see pic!* The tender chunks of tail and claw meat were lightly dressed in mayo and lemon and sooo good. The bun looks like a hotdog bun, but the taste and texture is more buttery like a dinner roll. I had them pack the bread separately from the lobster to avoid soggy buns. I suggest calling in advance to be sure they'll have what you want in stock. Also, their hours may be different from what's stated on Yelp - they happen to be open last Wednesday until 8pm.
