Regardless, I think the people there would have been just as nice and professional. In fact, someone in line helped point out an open register, and I said ah, thank you and moved over there. Want rude service and high prices? The come here if you do. Pastries are $1.75 each and are dry.we bought a bread and a churro and they both sucked. Green Onions were $2 for a small bunch and the taqueria where my coworker got a taco had dried out meat and rice. This is not a place that is winning us over. read more

Man, I don't know what happened to this location! The Redwood City location is a lot better. The staff just aren't really friendly. At first, I just thought it was a fluke, everyone has a bad day or maybe I was a little abrupt and put them off or something but it wasn't just my interactions, I've observed other patrons ask questions about where things are or at the prepared foods and have seen multiple staff treat other people pretty badly as well. Most recently, I asked the worker behind the deli a question about the salsa and her response, in Spanish, was "How am I supposed to know?". The other worker who saw the exchange looked at her with surprise and I just decided not to buy anything. I'm gonna stick to the Redwood City location when I'm over there or the Chavez on the other side of the freeway. read more

I want to call this spiffy-looking family-run market Chavez West because it reminds me of the more robust Mexican supermarket in Hayward (review: http://bit.ly/2pEYMO9). Recently expanded from a more traditional-looking market across the street and housed in a unique Art Deco-style building with its own parking lot, this true supermercado is centrally located in the Latin-flavored North B Street neighborhood of San Mateo. New Mi Rancho market! This is an expansion market of the existing one across the street. It's been in construction for over a year now and it's finally finished! It has it's own private parking lot, which is huge. Yay no more finding street parking! Inside, the market is air-conditioned. The floor is super clean. Everything is new and sparkling. The prices are still super-cheap: they are basically the same as the prices at the old Mi Rancho market across the street. Got a bag of potatoes: it is still $1.99 for a whole bag! There is a food court inside, that sells burritos. The prices are competitive with other mexican places in the area ($6.99). The only difference is, the place where they make the burritos is super clean! Including the staff who are all very well dressed. I feel like with the clean setting, they really should charge more (e.g. $7.99 for a burrito would not be unreasonable, given the higher quality). The veggies and fruits all look fresh and green. There is a meat section, which again, is super clean. There are big fridges selling cold soda etc. Nice. Will definitely come back again to this place. read more

3.5 stars Mi Rancho has everything from a butcher's counter to a deli counter to produce to baked goods and more--everything you'd want from a Mexican supermarket! But they also have a prepared food section with grilled meats and stews sitting behind a glass counter, and they offer a simple menu of tacos, burritos, and plates. I got the shrimp taco, which was built on two mass-made corn tortillas along with beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa, garnished with a lime wedge and a grilled jalapeno on the side. The shrimp filling had been grilled with onions and peppers, but since it had been premade and was sitting around for a while, didn't taste particularly fresh or flavorful. I also tried the asada plate, which came with a generous portion of freshly grilled steak, along with garnishes of pico de gallo, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and beans. While this was a great value for the portion size, the meat was chewy and unevenly cut, and the sides and garnishes were rather flavorless (even the guacamole had started to turn brown). Though the service here was friendly and accommodating, and the prices amazingly cheap, the food just didn't compare to what you'd find at a nice taqueria. read more

After the opening, this Mi Rancho has become the usual Mi Rancho. The produce are not as good any more. And prices are not as good as Dean's Produce. They do have some exotic fruits and veggies from El Salvador not available in other markets. And their tortilla chips are my husband's favorite. There are also a few exotic items that I only purchase in this supermarket. If you are an adventurous foodie and don't mind a little run-down market, this is what you might like to venture into. read more

Please stop being so r@cist. Not Hispanic/Latino and was treated badly. We were 2 shoppers together and got treated so badly we couldn't believe it. Entire store staff from stock associate to cashier refused to speak English to non-Hispanic/Latino people. If you don't speak English, just say it - don't act dumb. if you read some other reviews of this store, you will get the idea - total r@cists on a street in San Mateo, California, USA. Excellent service. Produce was super fresh. The deli has the best shrimp tacos Everyone was super friendly and service oriented.

I used to live in San Mateo and this was my go to store for vegetables, meats and Latino foods. Although I moved to the East Bay, every time I go to Peninsula, I stop here to stock up! The store I used to go to moved across the street to a brand new much larger grocery store with all of the products and more goodies. Even though I tinker with becoming vegan, I need to stop here when I'm Jonesing for the Green Chorizo, chicken fajitas, or crumbly Mexican cheese. I highly recommend this store, especially the flap/skirt meat for summer barbecues! read more

This is a great market for fresh produce. It's too bad that the staff blatantly discriminates against Caucasian customers. I was standing in line and a cashier opened another register and took the three Hispanic customer that were behind me and left me standing in line behind two other customers. The cashier that tended to me was the same way. She didn't charge the customer in front of me for the bags, but charged me for the bag and didn't ring it up. Here is a copy of my receipt. I told her that she didn't charge the customer before me and asked I asked her for the reason she was charging me. She just insisted on the 25 cents. I paid it and left. The produce is nice and be ready to be treated like a second class citizen if you're Caucasian. If I had been treated like everyone else I would have given this place five stars. read more

This place was an experience. The entire time I was walking around the store I felt deeply uncomfortable. The staff was super rude and ignored me the entire time. None of the employees made eye contact with me and talked about me in Spanish and I'm Mexican. I'm assuming they though I was white. And even after I spoke to them in Spanish, they continued to treat me like I wasn't there and referred to me as a "Little Girl", I was trying very hard to nice and smile but by the time I left the store I felt absolutely horrible. Everything to love love love about this not so little place! We stumbled onto it and they have everything Mexican plus more, e.g. absolutely spanking fresh produce; sundry tinned goods; packaged stuffs; fresh meats and seafood counters; plus an entire fresh daily baked breads and pastries. There's a household goods section, sizable and with loads of variety, including kitchen wares and cooking supplies. Pantry staples--everything clean and sorted, organized in sections that make sense and streamlined, e.g. in the back of the shop is a dairy thing with many cheese and milks. The customer service is sort of non-existent, but that's likely my inability to speak Spanish (I knew I shouldn't have taken German in high school :-) Everyone super efficient, and the prices are rock bottom, especially for the quality. This is a treasure trove of a shop where you walk in, and I swear it's impossible to eave with nothing. You go in and I dare you to leave empty handed :-) read more

I bought food at the taqueria and paid after I was in my car the security tell me that I had not paid, I have to go back and put the voucher in the trash to show, and no time the getente talk with me, me and my family we were very frustrated by everything and how they treated, I will not come back and I also do not recommend this market read more

Food very fresh! But I agree with the lady that said pretty women get discriminated. Most of the cashiers are rude towards other female but very nice towards men. I eat at Mi Rancho because they have a great group of tacos to select from. One that I love is the simple $2.00 chicken taco. However, my favorite is the Special Tilapia taco with the lettuce, salsa and you can add salsa verde too. This not spicy is you ask for a meal that is not spicy. There is an easy lunch counter. I have a walker, cane and can get up on the stools at the counter. The sides include a great non-spicy guacamole which I purchase by one quarter pound to eat with two tacos. I move through this market easily, but not super fast. Yes, ask for the free chips and they come too. Long list on the menus at the restaurant section. No tables or chairs yet. Lots to go of course. Sometimes I can take home one taco with remaining guacamole. Beverages are available and include coffee and sodas. Some sodas are Mexican, bottled water, and also I think the types of beverages sold at other Mexican-South American restaurants. Might ask if they do not have your type yet. But oh yes, they have the best and largest group of dry Mexican and South American spices available to date that I have seen in the downtown area. Packaged in clear packs with brand labels in that section of market I love the vegetables. Best lettuces. Bags of three hearts of Romaine at a good price, great pineapples, many watermelons, other melons, many fruits especially apples, pears, tomatoes, lemons and lots of limes. I love the American spices too. The cost of the types of fat milk is a good price for half gallon. Butter is also available at a good cost too. Yes, you can purchase the more expensive or simply get the one pound in quarters at a price you wish to pay. for walkers. Many types and cuts of meats that a Mexican or South American. Also some American cuts too. I like the thin cuts of the flank steak. The chicken in pieces are superior!! The breasts of chicken without bones, skin is at least a pound and serve four to five individuals a large quarter of a breast for four or in pieces slightly less for groups of five. Easily one of the best chicken places for American type chicken using their purchased chickens. No Foster Farms, but their meat and chickens are delicious, easy to cook and yes, they offer chicken feet too. I do not recall seeing pigs feet yet, but feel I might have seen some awhile ago. Ask if you want them too. Gallon containers of beverages including juices, American two liters of sodas, and many other brands. Yes, whole fish with heads, scales, and fins! The sweets at the pastry area are great. Have not seen cakes or pies yet, but the choices of and selections of sweets is amble. Also rolls available that are fresh and separate for meals or sandwiches too. They have a crisp crust for some. Others are great "pan" choices. I love all the vegetables. Great sea food choices too. No lobster tails or whole lobsters or crabs. shrimp is there in sizes all the time and in quantity. There is a mix of sea food including very small pieces of octopus. If I think of something else that I need, I can tell one of the women in the check cashing area and that request will go in for decision. Most of the things I wanted are there now. One of the head leaders knows me by my first name. I have shopped at this market since before the year 2000. It only gets better. The tomatoes are a good choice as is the avocodes. Hope you try this market. Note: Parking is an issue. Their is only a small lot and street parking. I walk to it. This is one of the main reasons for my strong review. We discovered this market when we were hungry for dinner and stopped and ordered a batch of their chili rellenos. By far and away the BEST rellenos we have ever had, anywhere! Mi Rancho is a beautiful fresh exotic Latin market that is a boon to the neighborhood. Try the Tacos Al Pastor at their counter they are to die for. And so is the pollo asado served by cheerful and helpful attendants. We are lucky to have Mi Rancho in San Mateo it makes the whole downtown better. Well done.
