I've tried numerous other items from them and I have to admit I prefer to buy those items elsewhere. They are still great options at affordable prices, just not my favorites. For more than reasonable comfort Macao/Cantonese take out Hongry Kong is an excellent option. The meals were tasty and reasonable. Entrees served with rice or noodles. They also had a pretty tasty Hong Kong milk tea. Takeout Dim Sum also available. For the sampling I bought half a dozen har gao/shrimp dumpling and a handful of egg tarts. While they were pre-ordered and picked up warm, the hargao was sitting in a pool of water (from the steaming?) and we're soggy. The egg tarts were also warm with a nice flaky crust. I found the filling to be on the sweeter side, not to my liking. Would I be back? Would try some of their other dim sum next time...and for a another refreshing milk tea. I have come across this food truck a couple of times at Off the Grid events and have meaning to give it a try. One night in Foster City, I decided that this place was the best option out of all of the trucks present so I settled on eating here. I have never had dim sum from a food truck so I was a little apprehensive as to how it would taste especially since I am picky about my dim sum. I got the dim sum platter, which included siu mai, shrimp dumplings, chicken pot stickers, and joong (sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo). I also got an addtional order of xian bing (beef meat pies) and the creamy pork cutlet with rice. The dim sum platter was decent. I've definitely had better siu mai, dumplings, and pot stickers elsewhere but coming from a food truck, they were pretty reasonable. I love joong and don't find it at many places so that was pleasant surprise and it was tasty. The xian bing was all right... it was clearly a pre-made beef patty wrapped in dough that was simply refried. I know I shouldn't be expecting something made fresh-to-order at a food truck but then I don't think you should really have something like that on the menu at all if it's premade. The savory pork cutlet with rice was essentially a version of congee (creamy rice porridge). It was pretty good except that they had put shredded cheese over the top of the dish. I honestly had no idea why they would do that and it was not needed nor aesthetically pleasing at all. If management is reading this review, please consider removing the addition of cheese to this item. Overall, I wouldn't necessarily seek this place out if I am craving dim sum since there are so many better options in the bay area. I ordered a large catering order from Hongry Kong for our baby shower this past weekend and they were so wonderful to work with! I submitted an inquiry online about a month in advance and was texted back by Nikki who helped me customize my order for the headcount I was expecting. I wanted an assortment of dimsum that would make a pretty spread and also feed about 50-60 people. Nikki did a wonderful job making suggestions, though I would also advise that you take a look at their menu as well so you can decide what you'd like as well. I ordered about 200 pieces of dimsum, plus half trays of fried rice and chow mein. The food was such a hit - I heard such positive feedback about the food...and it was literally ALL GONE by the end of the event. Not a single dumpling left in sight! They were super responsive during the entire process and on the day of, they were on time, delivered the food straight into the venue, set it on the table, and were in and out before I even knew it! During the pandemic we ordered frozen dim sum from them to steam at home. They're on par with the other frozen dim sum we ordered from Koi Palace. I had a big community party and I needed a food truck. Many trucks asked for a big minimum. HK was the only place that would take a minimum of 100 orders without a big minimum. Ordering was easy. I did it all online and via text. They showed up on time and they stayed a little bit later than the agreed upon time frame. They boxed the leftovers for us and we gave them away to the volunteers. I've ordered Hongry Kong's frozen dim sum before and it was all really good, but this time I ordered their Kong Bo It Up (grilled pork chops with black pepper sauce) with fried rice ($11). While the pork chops were thinner than I usually get from other Hong Kong style restaurants, they were tender and very tasty. The rice had peas and carrots in it, so it was a little more special than just plain white rice. I also got some frozen egg tarts ($9.80 for 10) that I know are delicious; the crust (at least the last time I had them) is very flaky and the custard is not too sweet. They're perfect still warm from your own oven. Just thaw the egg mixture in your fridge the day before you want to bake them, pour the mixture into the frozen shells, and bake... yummmm! Just like from a dim sum restaurant but even fresher and less expensive! The other items I ordered but have not tried yet are the baked cha siew bao and the cocktail buns. Looking for that dim sum fix without having to sit in a restaurant with a bunch of others during COVID this is the spot. Actually if you just want some dim sum at home in your freezer for an easy meal because who says you can't have dim sum for dinner it's nice and convenient and tastes way better than anything you can get from the supermarket frozen aisle. We've gotten the frozen dim sum twice now and our favorite are the sui mai and the shrimp and chive dumpling. The Sui mai is my kids favorite and is a easy meal for her to heat up a few for dinner if she doesn't want to eat what the adults are eating. It tastes just like you would get from a tea lunch spot but even bigger in size and the convivence of eating anytime at home. The chive dumping I like better than the har gow since it's basically the same filling but also has some veggies. Seems healthier right. Also what is a game changer is the frozen take home dan tat. They come in a pack of 10 but there is nothing like fresh dan tat. They make the crust (takes forever to do it homemade) and the filling for you and all you need to do is thaw the filling and bake. That simple and you have fresh hot dan tat. I highly recommend the flaky if you wanted to get it. It's so much better fresh than picking up one that was sitting on the shelf at 85º or the ranch all day. I also like getting a couple of the kong bo it up like tomato or black pepper over spaghetti for a nice and simple meal. Even once coronatine is done I hope they keep their at home offerings up as it is a way better than the frozen stuff you get at the store. So heavenly ) We are looking forward to trying all the dim sum dishes. Pricey but excellent so far. The food entrees are okay but smallish in size. The Kung pao chicken is tasty albeit slightly salty. It was average . The baked seafood entree with rice was less than average with a strange sauce and very little seafood. The baked cheese also seemed to be missing. I do not recommend it. I still intend to try more of the entrees and update my review. So off we went to the food trucks at Bishop Ranch 1. L O C A T I O N Bishop Ranches in San Ramon have a schedule for food trucks. You should visit or search for food truck mafia and Bishop Ranch (BR) to find the schedule. For BR1, the come every Tues and Weds. Today so happen to have Hongry Kong, but they're not ALWAYS there. So make sure you check the schedule. Bishop Ranch 1 is located off of Bollinger Canyon Rd. and Camino Ramon. There's a lot of parking, but since it's a location where people work, you'll find further parking away from where the trucks are situated which is the road about near the flag pole. M E N U They had a variety of food, but as I mentioned, I already ate, so my focus here is the dessert. ~ Butter Egg Tart ~ The crust was thinner more like a shortbread cookie. The filling underwhelming as there was only like 0.25 of an inch of filling which was sad. ~ Flaky Egg Tart ~ Only difference between this tart at the butter egg tart is the crust which was flakier, but not crisp. You would need to eat this once they give it to you and even then it's suspect that the crust would be like awesome phyllo dough. Again the filling not very much, not super sweet. ~ Coconut Tart ~ It had a good coconut flavor, denser, and had a good chew to the bite. ~ Pecan Tart ~ It was a not super sweet mini pecan pie. The cute and playful Hongry Kong truck was easily identifiable with the Donkey Kong like mascot holding a dan taat. Even cuter was the slogan, "In Kong We Trust". Love it! Hongy Kong offers fobby HK cafe favorites like HK Baked Pork Chop Rice, Dan Taats (Egg Custard Tarts) and HK Street Food like Curry Fish Balls. They use NO MSG which is a rarity in HK cafe cuisine. For your entree ($8), choose one of four sauces: Tangy Tomato, Firecrackin' Pepper, Dreamy Creamy, or Curryous George. Even if the depth of flavor is slightly compromised, I don't have to worry about the aftereffects of dry mouth, headaches and heart palpitations which is the main reason why I avoid Chinese food these days. Hongry Kong frequents the different Bishop Ranch business plazas and one day I just so happened to forget my lunch and finally had the chance to try this food truck out! I kept reading the rave reviews of how this was "authentic" Hong Kong styled cuisine in a fast-food pace kind of setting so it seemed promising. For ordering it's pretty much a 3-Step System they call the "Kong-Bo It Up!" Step One? Choose sauce/flavors. Here you can choose from Tangy Tomato, Firecrackin' Pepper, Dreamy Creamy, and Currious George. Step Two? Choose between what protein you want or if you're more of a veggie kind of guy or gal they have that option as well. Protein wise they have grilled chicken or pork chops, fish cutlet, beef brisket with tendons, or a chicken or pork cutlet. Step Three? Choose your carb. Rice (with egg, peas, and carrots) or Spaghetti. You can also opt to add a fried egg on top for an additional fee. I ended up choosing a Pork Currious George all over rice with an egg tart on the side. While the flavors were all there and it's a pretty affordable meal. I wasn't super impressed. The meat-sauce-ratio, for my plate at least, felt off and I felt like I was getting more bone or tendon or what have you than meat. I will note that I did really enjoy the egg tart, Not sure what the typical price is for an egg tart elsewhere, but I felt like given the area (and I'm not going to go to Chinatown Oakland or SF during the work week just for one as I do not live in the area Haha) it's cool to have this option when this food truck comes around. They also have a milk tea, which I found to be quite enjoyable and refreshing but sorry for you bubble tea/tapioca pearl/boba loving peeps out there - they serve Hong Kong-styled milk tea only. Depends, but honestly wouldn't be my first option if there were other trucks to choose from but you do get value for your dollar and likely to get full because #carbs. This is a preliminary review for this truck since I had to catch the train and could only get a Milk Tea. However the Kong truck is basically a HK style cafe on wheels. Small snacks and beverages just like ABC or similar establishments. Looks like they're in my hood again soon so ill have to hit them up for their eats ------------- Update: So I went for lunch and got the brisket, curry fish balls, abd lemon tea with a butter egg tart. The beef is a curried version of Chinese beef stew you'd get at a Cantonese influenced place over fried rice. Good flavor, though rice was a bit dry. Fish was solid as was the tart.
