I went here during the evening to check out the snacks and ice cream available. It was around 8pm when I arrived. Once you walk in, there's a terrible smell that hits you right away. They were cleaning the back side that has all the fish in tanks. It smelled worse as you got closer. I purchased a singular ice cream bar. It was super melted and also smelled bad. So all of my visits have been for specific Asian items or produce. I don't partake in the live fish or the fast food at the front. Although there isn't great Customer Service (as in no one is walking the aisles to help), I still am always satisfied when I leave the store. Perhaps it's because I know I can't get what I'm looking for at a regular grocery store. This particular time I was looking for a Knorr's packet of Tamarind Soup Mix. I had already tried my local Asian market with no luck. I came here and although it too me about 10 minutes of scouring the aisles and reading everything in sight (I was also willing to accept a Tamarind paste). When I was just about to give up, I went to a different aisle and found the packets I was looking to buy. No worker was ever in eye or earshot for me to ask. But I do usually try to find things myself. They also carry some pretty fabulous Green Onion Pancakes in the Freezer section. As for produce, I will get my Asian Pears, Bok Choy and Lemongrass. Here's What I Think...This is a great place to go if you're looking for a specific item that can't be found in your local grocery store. Terrible! The fish are rotting and they still proceed to try sell it to customers. The fish department is also very dirty and smells like rotting fish and rotting produce as soon as you walk inside. Let's start with the parking lot for 99 Ranch... it's chaotic! However, this location has a wide range of veggies and meat if you go before noon. With the COVID-19 pandemic going on, 99 Ranch has been open at 8 AM on the weekdays and 9 AM on weekends. Unfortunately, not everything is restocked so it's a little tough to buy ingredients these days. Plan on coming when they open. Otherwise. A line will form 30 minutes after and you'll have to wait. *DELI REVIEW ONLY* Ok, don't ask me what I was thinking, but the first time I tried their deli (about 3 months ago), I got food poisoning. This was back when covid protocols were more strictly in place (or so I thought they should have been, not sure how I got sick), but they had plastic saran wrap barriers and you were not allowed to scoop it yourself. Fast-forward to now - things are back to how they were, where you can scoop your own to go containers. It took up a lot of courage to come back here, but I was lazy and really craved Chinese Food (this place is like across the street from me). I grabbed a container and piled it high with food (enough to last me 2 more lunches from the leftovers) and got my $10.99 worth every penny. Good news - I did not get sick this time! I came here to quickly pick up some instant tea and coffee. I was able to find everything I needed easily. As always, 99 Ranch is always very packed and popular. They did implement plastic barriers between cashier and customer and everyone wears face masks. They also have the 6 feet markers on the ground so people know where to stand when waiting in line. They could definitely improve on the ground markers. Some of the markers are right in the middle of the walkway so customers who are still shopping walk really close to you while trying to get past. Also, while it's 6 feet distance from front of line to back, it's less than 6 feet away from the people standing in line at the other cashier to the left/right of you. I felt really uncomfortable and aware of how close others were. Cashier was nice - she mentioned if I got a bag for 10 cents, I'd get a $1 voucher back. read more

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! the manager (the lady who regularly stays behind the customer service counter) here is the absolute worst and today was the cherry on the top. we live close by and have always had rude encounters with the manager at this location every single time we have her ring us up. she yelled at me today and THREW my money at me for getting cash back. she gets mad at us every time we need to get cash back for the last year or so. there's literally an option to get up to $100 and she always yells at us to only take $40. today, christmas eve, we had the absolute worst experience. i couldn't believe she had the audacity to yell at us for asking for cash back??? and then throwing our money over the counter..... ridiculous. we've tried calling to complain to corporate for previous experiences (with rudeness, selling us expired products and not giving us a refund, overcharging etc) -- just stay away from this location. i can easily run back there right now and take pictures of fruits with molds on them and dirty areas that are not kept clean here. again, we're regulars who live close by for a few years now and this ranch 99 was our regular go-to, NEVER AGAIN. this location will never see a dime from me or any of my family again. the convenience is not worth getting RUDE service. read more

I go here about once every 3 months, and this store makes me happy. I find all my childhood food here including the best Asian snacks in town. This is where I get super delicious spicy ramen. Their best product is this 5 minute boba pearls! I bought 3 of them when I went the other day! You just boil the pearls for 5 mins and then they're done and ready to eat! So delicious! The last last time I visited, I got the boba bars! They were SO GOOD! So addicting. They also have really good mantou which is a Chinese style steamed bun. I always get the frozen brown sugar mantou, and just steam it at home. They are super good! I also got fresh tuna sashimi, salmon roe, and seaweed salad! They were all so delicious! 99 Ranch is one of our go-to grocery stores, especially for Crystal Geyser water (99 cents/gal), Chinese veggies, dried ingredients for soups, and most importantly fresh whole fish from the tank! One unique feature of the Fremont 99 Ranch that I haven't seem at any other branch is how the fishmongers work. Here you take a number, pick your fish and processing method (we always choose #1, descale, gut, and leave whole), wait for them to work, and voila - you get your fish! Every other 99 Ranch passes the butchering to another crew and you get a receipt to pick up the fish later. You may wind up in another line and it can be chaos at times. Totally inefficient! The other reasons I like the 99 Ranch: * Very clean and organized fruit and veggie section * Big parking lot with straight stalls, not those horrible fishbone lanes * Awesome restaurants in the plaza, especially Bing's Dumpling The only downside is that this 99 Ranch is the farthest from us. Covid Review My fiance and I decided to come here to this location because of the fact there were no lines. I would have to say that in terms of following covid guidelines, I felt like there wasn't much signage about how to be proactive during covid. They do offer hand sanitizer outside by the carts, but other than that I didn't see much inside. I would have to say that this place lacked inventory here because there were a lot of empty shelves compared to other ranch 99 places I have been to. It was also hard to find people to get help if needed. What can improve - The dry goods aisle is poorly organized and hard to find products. For example, dried mushrooms were found in 3 different places in the same aisles - why not put them together so I can see the different options all at once? Same problem with other dried fungus. OLD ROAST DUCK! Thought I would give them another try. Man behind glass is slick as ever because the metal shield prevents you from seeing which duck he's chopping. He takes down the duck you point at, then PRETENDS to chop the duck u selected. When you get home you'll discover he sliced up an old duck that has a stale taste and smell. If this happens to you take it back and they will refund you. Terrible business! This supermarket has a lot of products from every Asian country but they only hold popular products that sell well. This location is clean and their vegetables, meats, seafood are abundant in supply. Most of the cashiers speak little English, and there is always a roaming manager to help them out. They have a Chinese deli and a bakery here. The one thing that I don't like here is the parking, and it can be chaotic when some drivers don't follow rules, and don't know what they are doing like backing up and not looking at both sides. They do follow covid19 restrictions and measures here. The prices here are more above average for basic essentials like around $5.99 to $9.99. I hate hate this 99 Ranch area. I guess most Asian shops in the Bay Area are like this and I've been spoiled by the nice drivers in SLO but this place is such a pain to park and navigate around. Everything is just so cramped. I'm almost always frustrated when I leave this place. I've lived in Fremont for about 20 years (minus the time I was in college, it would be about 16 years) and I have some fond memories of coming here and buying snacks as a kid and getting birthday cakes from here...but now, it's just terrible. I don't know if it's because I'm older now and realize how poorly designed this area is or because it has actually gotten worse. I'm guessing the former and a bit of the latter... Anyway, the lot is definitely not big enough, and people are always circling around for parking. People tend to just steal other people's spots and cut people off. My mom's car was actually hit in this lot (and he drove away but another lady happened to catch the incident and let my mom know). Now, inside the store, it's just SO cramped. There's just so little space to move with the cart and there are people everywhere, whether you're getting food from the deli, navigating the aisles, or at the cashier. It's just so darn crowded. And it smells so bad, obviously from the fish smell, so I suppose that's expected. The good thing about this place is that it's decent priced and the food is good, especially at the price you're getting it. The cakes are really pretty and the deli has a good variety of food that I enjoy, albeit really oily. A complete garbage dump. Their products are overpriced and often spoiled. Their employees are out of control! Recently went in and saw one of their employees (a young asian male who was about 6' wearing a yankee's baseball cap with a pink yankee's logo) yell at another customer demanding to be tipped or else he won't bag groceries because it's "not his business". The employee proceeded to shout "this isn't a restaurant" and then got up in the customer's face yelling "you tip me? you gonna tip me??". The supervisors did absolutely nothing.
