First time to have breakfast at Seafood City Grill while I'm visiting Oakland. We opened the place at 8 am. There was an array of Pinoy dishes, mainly breakfast food. They had like langgonisa, tapa, tocino, fried danggit, corned beef, fried rice and many others. The breakfast special goes on bento like lunchboxes. The great thing was...it was buy one, get one! That's pretty cheap and awesome! The Grill is set in the front if the supermarket, with tall boys for seating. The people serving were nice and amiable. Really good value for breakfast. read more

This place needs a major overhaul. Management really needs to revisit and re-evaluate the employees here. Many of them seem to be doing the bare minimum -- not only slow, but also lacking basic customer service skills. I came in on May 27 around 6:30 PM to have shrimp weighed, then asked for beef from the same fresh section. The older woman assisting me completely walked away instead of helping. As she was leaving, she said, "That's a different department, go ask them," even though the beef was literally in the same section as the seafood. When I told her there was no one else working in that area except her, she ignored me and kept walking away. Very rude and unhelpful behavior. Seafood City, please pay closer attention to the employees working in the fresh seafood/meat section. Customer service matters. If employees cannot keep up with the demands of a busy environment, management should address it appropriately. The items were extremely affordable at 5.99 per container and container was of good quality with a breathable lid. The palabok noodles were a little hard to digest, not sure if the noodles are suppose to be of that texture. The pacit was light but had hard chunks of dark meat chicken. Great news! Grill city, one of the many establishment inside Seafood City Market, has changed their container to a non-plastic container. That is so cool! I just go by there yesterday just to grab a quick lunch for to go and to my amazement they changed their container from using a styrofoam to a carton like container. I ordered their barbeque meal (it comes with a 1 barbeque chicken or pork, rice or noodles whatever you prefer and another item in their counter which is a lot ti choose from! I didn't realize there was a Seafood City in Hayward on the Hesperian side of Southland Mall until recently when friends set-up a meetup here for lunch. There's parking on the Hesperian St side as well as the back side of the building facing Southland Mall. The supermarket is good sized, clean and bright with a seafood/meat department, produce section, some hot foods, and a large selection of Filipino/Asian groceries. If you're 55, get your Suki card and get 12% off on your purchase on Tuesdays. I've been getting my 3 Ladies jasmine rice here and the suki discount makes it a great price. Though Seafood City supermarket is the main business in the building, there's a Grill City, Ima's, Valerio's, Red Ribbon Bakery and Jollibee. Hayward location - I ordered the Mother's Day Special for $49.99 - site offered free delivery so I punched in the code and provided my address. I received a confirmation for the order with the delivery time. The next day, I got a call at 2:55pm and the caller said they do not offer delivery for my order which was due to arrive between 6-6:30pm. I tried calling the store and I was unable to reach anyone for over half an hour. All 3 options given kept repeating itself and no one picked up the line. My husband was finally able to reach them after another 15 min. and they did offer to cancel the order and refund us. We were looking forward to the food and must now find some last minute alternative. It would have been helpful if the website stated pick-up only and no delivery. What a disappointment. read more

The fish is stale, dangerously disgusting, and the worst thing is that they would sell you the spoiled seafood to recover a few bucks rather than dispose of it to keep customer loyalty. I'm finally writing this review because three instances are enough. The manager and store owner don't care. This time around, they fiddled with the raw fish I picked out for over 40 minutes instead of quickly gutting them. They clearly looked at it. They could've alerted me the ones I picked were spoiled -- or just swapped them for fresher ones behind the counter. But no. I discovered the mess only when I got home. I finally gave a flawless review after a few years debating on what I was going to address, and how many stars I'd give. I finally decided to give a great review even though I did address the way some of the workers and customers appear to treat "some" people. I officially have to address what I see as a bias and after years it feels based on color. I hate having to address this...imagine being treated as less than/different after so many years supporting a business and feeling weird for being honest about it because others aren't. Most don't understand going into businesses and having to be the one providing customer service with a smile because you aren't being treated like a customer. Some of you know exactly what I'm talking about. They still have great products, food and such, but the way I've been treated/ignored/looked over "randomly" after years of coming here is ridiculous and I've noticed a pattern and it has nothing to do with customer service. I'm consistently disappointed by people and the way they treat other people...we are all human, and when you are respectful, honest and care for people it's unfortunate that you not get the same...especially when people are being paid to do a job. Nothing more terrible than waiting patiently like others and not getting the same service or even being followed around the store and not being asked if you need help finding anything so you know you still aren't being viewed as a customer. I am officially re thinking ever coming here again. It's not right, it's tiring and draining being made to feel this way in 2022. I wanted to give one star, but there are still some here that treat all the same/equal seemingly...it's unfortunate how many times I've come here and experienced poor treatment and tried my hardest to ignore it. First time here shopping at Seafood City Supermarket at Hayward - Hesperian Blvd. As i was walking into the supermarket, price points are lower than $0.75 to $1.00 less than Union City Seafood Market and Island Pacific. But I am loving it here as I find rare products like Barako coffee grounds, candies found at public markets, and other UFC branded products. OMGosh! It is organized and well stocked at this location. Fresh meat, fish, seafood and produce here. Very brightly and well lit Filipino supermarket with a lot of popular Filipino variety of goods not focusing too much on Pamana, but other trusted well-known Filipino brands. I would like to thank the GM for this in Hayward. Customer service is 5/5 and very fast thinking and willing to help you out! Grill City, Ima's and Valerio's occupies this space here! This place has gone downhill- when it first opened the food was decent. But now- the food has gotten worse. Look at how much oil is left in the adobo. This should be the "Sabaw" aka the adobo sauce - which to be honest sometimes is the best part. Unfortunately, the service was crappy too. I was waiting in line to pay and the lady ended up taking the gentleman behind me, and also proceeded to misgender me calling me sir. Pains me to write this because we were super excited when Seafood City opened up near our house a few years ago... however over the years I've learned to stop coming here for 3 big reasons: 1) The workers are incredibly slow and inefficient. Granted some are nice and actually try to be quick, the many times I've been here I've seen workers chit chatting with each other, holding up the lines, chit chatting with the customers as well without any regards to the long line growing, etc. 2) Not all the produce are fresh. I've seen mold on vegetables and fruits a bunch of times, hence why I try to avoid buying their produce here when I can. 3) Most items are overpriced and can be found cheaper at other Asian grocery stores. Also the selection sucks if you're looking for non-Filipino items. I stopped coming here around last year and instead discovered Island Pacific, a few minute further down Hesperian but so worth it. The employees are much quicker, friendlier, with better prices, etc. Plus their rewards program requires only a phone # and no download necessary on your phone. I came here recently because it was on the way home and I was so angry I waited 20 minutes to buy two items. The cashier was slow but she was the only one working unfortunately. Whenever I visit this supermarket, I feel some type of way! By Just being here, I feel connected to my childhood. It's the nostalgia of people speaking to each other in Tagalog and how you are surrounded by all the special Filipino food items that you can only find at a Filipino grocery store. Upon checking out at the register, 2 employees (auntie looking) were talking smack about a rude customer that they had just experienced. They were spewing unfiltered but in Tagalog. I understood most of it and just smirked behind my mask. I kinda felt in place. Lol. I don't know why it took me so long to check this complex out, but it's been around for about 3 years. There's one closer to where I live, and even that one, I may only visit about 4-5 times/year. I have a feeling I may make an appearance at this one a bit more. It is more spacious and cuz it is much newer, a bit cleaner and more stylish. My main draw here is their seafood department. It is intense. It is so intense that you really have to be a cook to do it justice. Lots of whole fishes, many from tropical waters. So yes, bones, heads, skin etc. Which is no big thing for an old-world cook, but for many Americans will leave a lot of gawking stares. They have a cleaning service which is a huge plus, and the prices are damn appropriate. I don't like their meat department though, as everything is geared to really get cooked down/stewed. But that is the culture here. I'll stick to my more American meat choices. Lots of prepared food options here. They've got 2 separate steam table joints in their courtyard, also a Red Ribbon Bakery I believe and the requisite Jollibees (holla!!) up front and center. And the grocery store itself has lots of prepared food wrapped up in warming areas to grab and go. It is something I don't really consider, but for those that love/need convenience, I see more of it here, than the one closer to me in Union City. Looking forward in many more explorations. This is one of the better supermarkets in the area. It seems to be much bigger than the Union City location. The staff are very friendly here, if you need help with something they are more than willing to help. Also any supermarket that also sells hot prepared food is A-OK in my book. they got it all here! They have some jumbo carrots that are huge! The entire store smells fresh and clean. Unlike some places that smell like something died 2 days ago in the back room. No issues like that here! I almost forgot if you prefer to buy some food that is already prepared they do have a dining area, where you can eat. This way when you get home can relax and cook tomorrow.
