I was expecting to buy pork buns for no more than $10-15 but now I have 2 plastic trays of mediocre food. The interesting part is that she kept pushing more and more food on me and I kept saying no, yet here I am paying for food she insisted I just had to try. Thinking this might have just been a one off random situation, I looked it up on Yelp and it sounds like this is a common occurrence. Pushy, underhanded sales tactics with no receipt back up. I was waiting for a receipt so I could see why the high price if she was cutting me a deal, but she hurried me out of there under the guise of helping another customer. Can someone please update me on what ahappened to my favorite Dim Sum place? I used to come here early in the morning before work -- it was part of my routine. When I stopped by this past Friday, I was so sad to see that it had closed. Another person walking by mentioned she came last Saturday and saw it the same way. Yelp still says they're open, but it doesn't look like it's been updated. The lady who worked there was always so kind, always telling me what new dishes they had that morning. She's like do you like this and that and I caught on after saying yes the first 3 times. She will say is this this for 4 people and then ask again and keeps adding more head count. I loved the siomai here. And I loved the older lady. I've been going here for years! I had no issues, until I went there a few months ago. I only wanted 2 dozen of the siomai, however, the lady continued to grab more and more bakery items. She tried to sweet talk me into giving them to my mom and grandma. I said No, I didn't need 10 or 20 of the other items. Total came out = $250. I only wanted to pay $20. Immediately I said no, and she got offended. I said I only wanted the siomai. This place has been around for years. It is an asian owned bakery, serving donuts, dimsum, etc.. It is a small place tucked in a strip mall. The woman who owns the place can get tricky when it comes to prices of her food so be careful. One day, she will charge you for taxes and some days she won't. Always ask for a receipt! And remember the price she gives you on your last visit because the next time you go she may change it so keep your receipt(s) I like her husband and I wish he would be the one serving but he is the cook. Variety is amazing and I had so much fun selecting through all of their different offerings. DIMSUM AT 6:45 AM. I'm an early riser and donut shops are often the only place open early in the morning. Always trying to find interesting savory items since I've had enough hotdog rolls, and bagel/croissant breakfast sandwiches to last a lifetime. They open much earlier than Taipan Express and I thought it would be cool to try dimsum and donuts for breakfast. Traditional Donut Offerings: Donut holes were OK, my wife is the household expert and ate all of them but said local places were better. Ham and cheese croissant for the kids had thick cut ham and cheddar which were great but the croissant part was a but dry and we had to force our kids to finish it. Dimsum: Steamed pork dumpling had a heavy amount of basil, not in a bad way, never had it before like this and it was quite good. Har gow was OK as well. Not so great was the cheung fun which my wife normally loves. Super thick rice paper and barely any shrimp in it. The macau pork bun was the first time I've ever had it and I'm sure it's supposed to be better than the one I had. The reason for the overall review is I swear the owner was trying to hustle me. She was adding up the order out loud and seemed to be making up prices on the spot. Our total should have been around $25 but she asked for $42, I looked at the receipt and she charged $14 for a dozen donut holes "accidentally". There are no set prices that I've seen and everything was pretty much given to us in bulk. For example, there was still HK noodles left in the pan and the worker gave us everything for $10. All the items we got were $10 each and I'm not sure if that's the regular pricing of everything. The worker was a bit assertive when taking our order. She always had suggestions and started to pack the food before we even decided. She also gave some food tips. She said the wonton soup is thick enough to be a sauce for the shu mai. Reminder to go in the morning though. I ended up going to this shop around 3ish and they only had shumai left for dim sum and some Chinese pastries. That's my fault for not going earlier. I ended up purchasing $10 worth of shumai (I think it was 5 for $5 and she put in one or two extra). There was one lady working the counter and she didn't come off as super friendly but I could tell she was trying her best since she had just finished explain to another customer why they couldn't sit down to eat. Overall I'm happy with the dim sum I purchased. This is definitely a place where you can get a quick meal to go. Donuts & Dim sum? Yes please! I've passed by this place countless times but I've never tried it until recently. We came at 8am on Friday and it wasn't too busy. We ordered shrimp dumplings, shui mai, shrimp rice roll, spicy dumplings, bao, and a donut. It all came out to $27. I think what made it expensive were the rice rolls - not worth $10 for 2 servings. The shrimp dumplings were my favorite! It was smaller than usual but I love how there's no extra skin. The shui mai's were also good! My fiancé thought the dim sum's were good as well. Almost every donut shop in the populated areas of Cali are Asian owned and operated. It is a good opportunity for immigrants to be able to start a small business. And even though I don't go out of my way to eat donuts anymore, I do and like to support these small businesses, especially the ones directly in my community. Sure donuts are in their name, and sure they sport most of the basics. I've tried a few and they're definitely not bad. But from the outside and to the uninitiated eye, there are a ton of other stuff here to get/explore. Walk past the donut case in the front to a tight corner towards the back and you'll see an enclosed steam case. If you go early AM, it will be stuffed with all kinds of Chinese brunch-y items. Lots of steamed dumplings, chicken feet in sauce, tiny pork rib bits in sauce and many things flaky and baked. Steamed Shrimp Rice Rolls ($10/6 rolls/4*) Pretty solid, shrimp actually still juicy and the wrapper wasn't overcooked. Sauce being nice and light soaks into the rolls quite nicely. Siu Mai ($10/dozen/4*) Nice sized and quite juicy. Nice pork texture and flavor with a sweetish edge. The wrapper was a little mushy, but still not bad. Har Gow ($10/dozen/2.5*) These I didn't care for. No shrimp chunks, just mostly that shrimp mousse texture. Spicy Wontons ($10/generous dozen/3*) This was kinda weird to me. First the wontons were really chive-y, that you could see the green interior through the wrapper. I'm not a fan of chive dumplings, if I would of known, I may have steered away from it. Then the hot oil that the dumplings were swimming in had a noticeable tanginess to it, which kinda threw me off. I guess I just prefer a red chili oil. The vinegar with the chives just kept throwing me off, just wanted something more simple. They also have a lot of Burmese items on another menu, but don't really know when those are available. I want to explore those for sure. It is amazing how many different things they can kick out in such a small space. One star for the customer service. The lady owner is known in the community as impatient and short-tempered. I knew what I signed up myself for. I had a 5 year old with me and i was told to come back in 2hours as they were closing to mop the floor. It was mind boggling as I wanted to order more food but she prioritized mopping the floor over making business transactions. She told me that she didn't want to pay her employee overtime. Amazing and friendly customer service. Food was not WOW by any means, but will satisfy a dim sum craving if you have one. There is definitely good value here. My least favorite was the Har Gow. The filling was a ground shrimp whereas other places would have whole shrimp chunks inside. The filling was pretty pasty and probably had fillers. The dough had no chew and was mushy as well. The Siu Mai was good but nothing very uniformed in texture. Usually there will be different textures and chew bits. The chive cake was good, but what surprised me was the wontons in chili oil. Although some of the wrapper dried and got crunchy, the overall flavors were really nice. I'd get the wontons in chili oil again - hopefully execution is better next time! read more

I belong to a group on Facebook, which consist of Mom and Pop shops seeking business during the COVID-19 pandemic around the East Bay. Donut Delight Express was one of them. I have had their dim sum in the past that my cousin introduced me too, but it was my turn to take a trip myself. I had a huge craving for dim sum and by recommendation to arrive early due to sell outs. When I arrived on a Saturday morning, I was greeted by the friendly owners and staff. They had a wide variety of donuts and pastries. I went in an places orders of their chicken and shrimp shumai, shrimp rolls, har gow (shrimp dumpling), shrimp & cilantro dumpling, and lotus rice. The lady there is very friendly and offers a lot of suggestions for something new to try. For me, it's kind of compulsive buying. If I like it, I'll end up buying more than what I originally intended. You know that feeling when you go to the wholesale warehouse or those popular stores we go to at least twice or more a week. It may come off as rude to some, but hey when you're upselling, you do what you have to do to keep your business going. The items I bought for breakfast were very delicious and very budget friendly. Actually I wasn't even going here. I parked and started to walk to my dad's favorite panaderia for a cookie. As I was passing this donut/dim sum place I remembered he loves bear claws... But when I went inside and couldn't communicate with the lady behind the counter. We tried pantomime (didn't work) we tried pointing (didn't work) A guy at the counter tried helping me... okay, now were getting somewhere... They have a very small selection and no bear claws! I get a few donuts and a couple of muffins, chocolate I could figure out...Not sure they understood my asking what flavor the other one was...
