I did order catering and food was mostly fine,but they didn't get it ready on the proper day,so I ended up waiting forever in the line and collected items.Prepared food is expensive,half cake cost 30 dollars ,but real problem is customer service.Rude,mean and discriminative service,employees have attitude and no customer care skills whatsoever. The selection is amazing; the employees are courteous and helpful; the fresh food is delectable. The sumptuous sweets are worthy of a 5-star pastry chef in Moscow or Paris. I adore the savory tourtes of cheese, beet leaves, and onions. The fresh bread is reminiscent of Russian bakeries. I am told the selection of hams and meats is delicious (although I don't eat meat). I live only a short distance away and every time I shop there I bring back an exquisite feast of luscious foods of all kinds. I have been shopping there since they opened so I know their history and the current selection is the best in my view. Treat yourself to a feast! read more

This store has a good selection of products that are hard to find in other conventional grocery stores. But there are serious problems. We bought fish container which had an expired date. It was too late when we noticed it. I have already opened it and took a bite, and I could taste that something was wrong with fish. Only then I looked at the expiration date. I was planning to return it but then my schedule got very busy and it never happened. The store can also improve its customer service. There was no hi, no bye. Will I go there again, probably yes, but will be careful with the expiration dates. If customer service does not improve, I will have to lower the rating and find a different place. read more

I am always looking for ethnic grocery stores so I thought I would check this one out. This location is decent, but it is slightly harder to find and it is on the right hand side of Nicholson Lane and Rockville Pike. It is behind Jerry's subs and pizza and below the Magic Shop. The parking lot is kinda small, but it is never full. There is always someone in there and several generations visit due to Rockville's high Russian population. They speak Russian in here, but the young man at the counter does speak English. They sell everything from beer to wine to homemade candies to meat to books in Russian and gifts which are behind the counter. They sell authentic Russian chocolates and teas. There is such a wide selection of tea, it is unbelievable in terms of flavors, brand, country of origin etc and the tea is reasonably priced bordering cheap for the quality. They also sell newspapers and magazines. I bought some tea, chocolate, wafer cakes and a newspaper and the food and reading material was moderately priced. The tea was great, the chocolate was expired and the newspaper was 2 months old. Some of the boxes of candy are expired and are collecting dust, so one must be careful when purchasing candy. The wafer cake (think of a cookie wafer but about 8 layers with chocolate drizzled on top. My co-workers liked it. I would definitely come here to buy tea, maybebooks and/or some unique gifts. read more

This store is smaller than the one in mclean. They have good variety of sweets, frozen foods, hams, and souvenirs! I'm always amazed how much cute souvenirs they have hanging up behind the counter. I wished that it was reachable for customers to browse because I'm always hesitant to ask the ladies at the register how much the price is. And they are NOT friendly at all. Needs customer service improvement but I'm keep going back because they have the things I wants and crave from my childhood. read more

It was a challenge to park there, since everything was packed , had to park at the auto shop next door..There is poor variety of food ,just a basic stuff , not too many things to choose from and prices are higher than in other Russian stores. Well, I live right next to this store, been going there for over 5 years maybe once a month, until finally I had enough..... Some of the products are past expiration date, some just plain bad quality, but the worst thing - like in the old Soviet Union, they will try to screw you over EVERY time you buy something by weight. I usually buy the same items from the russian stores - pelmeni, cake, bread, beer, sausage, cheese. Few times I bought the same items from the Russian store in Germantown, on Quince Orchard and Clopper - I paid 2/3 the price. The last drop was when I bought my favorite honey cake from Germantown store, it cost me $11, then, a week later, I bought the same cake, fitting in the same size container from the Russian Gourmet, same price per pound, but somehow I paid $20!!!!! What??? Almost twice the price???? No more! I told all my peeps about this dishonest place and heard the similar complains back. I'd rather drive from Bethesda to Germatown, but get quality, fresh products and an honest service! read more

This store deceives customers by selling expired food. In my case, I purchased a product that had an expiration date printed on a store sticker. At home, I took the sticker off just to see if there is an expiration date printed by the manufacturer on the package itself. I lived in Russia and know to expect that from food products manufactured there. The original expiration date was indeed printed on the package, but it was painted over with some sort of paint. In other words, they put paint over the original expiration date and then put their own sticker over the paint to make sure you can't see the original date (I'm adding a pic of that to photos for you to see). That's a lot of work, and you can draw your own conclusions as to why they might do all that. If you pay attention, you will notice that a significant portion of their products has been treated the same way. Don't shop there if you care about your food safety. In addition, the place is very pricey if you know the real price of the items they are selling. All their stuff is four to five times more expensive compared to what it costs in Russia. As a result, you get potentially expired food at Whole Foods prices. And by the way, most of the items in this "Russian Gourmet" store aren't made in Russia and have little to do with the Russian cuisine :) read more

As a hopeless, life-long Russophile, I was drawn to this Russian food store because of its high ratings. I was not disappointed. Though Rockville Pike is not my favorite driving route, the experience and the selections at this store were superior to any I had encountered heretofore. I found everything I was looking for, including fresh prianiki, Borodinskii khleb, and Baklazhan. The assortment of candies, cookies and cakes is also spectacular. Many flavors of Zefir and Vavli. This is a store that American Russophiles and native Russians adore. I'm so glad I found it! read more
