99 R caught my husband's eye one day while heading to Home Depot in Kingston, NY. He'd been hinting that he wanted to give it a try. I wasn't so sure because it didn't seem like my kind of spot- but told him I had no problem if he wanted to check it out solo. That all changed on Good Friday, when we decided to go together for an early lunch. The vibe at 99 R is kind of in the same lane as TGI Fridays or Applebee's: a big, central bar with TVs, walls decorated with sports picture frames. But here's where it stood out- it was incredibly clean and relaxed, down to the spotless floors. Our server, Thomas, was excellent. He was the perfect balance: attentive but not hovering, friendly, and asked all the right questions without being overbearing. My husband ordered the crispy cod tacos (which, in hindsight, I should've gone with) along with some buffalo wings. I decided on the crispy cauliflower tacos and a strawberry lemonade. Sadly, the cauliflower tacos were a miss--they tasted pre-made and just didn't hit the mark. Still, the service more than made up for it, and we were pleasantly surprised when Thomas added a "First Time Customer"(?) discount to our bill. We had Mothers Day the day before, at 99 and had their Prime Rib. It came well done after a long wait, no slight pink inside. Disappointed !

Paula our waitress was here for my first time and second today . Excellent service and delicious fresh food !! The bar is located far enough away so even though it was packed there it wasn't loud where we were in the dining room . Nice relaxed atmosphere & really big portions . The service was great. The house margarita delicious and the spinach artichoke dip was wonderful. My dinner...another story. I ordered the NY strip steak medium rare. This was about as well done as it could have been and still remain steak. The cut was also thin. Usually a strip is about an inch to inch and a half thick.... this was about a 1/2. Maybe it was too overcooked? I really should have sent it back, but I didn't think it would be better the second time. It was even charred on the part I brought home for the dog. I'd hate to admit just how much time it's been since the last time I bought from this 99 Restaurants, because it's been here this long. So it was tempting when my brother bought the other day to wait this long when I was given money to buy today with my parents and brothers out of town. Yet, because I don't have reliable transport, had to vouch for delivery instead, via Uber Eats. I can't say much about the ambiance because I wasn't the one picking it up, but I can say what I received- now that I've devoured it all - was just amazing, especially with quick pickup via the driver's position on the map. Although this place surely loves quantity, their quality was leaving me guessing. Although I couldn't say they left me with wilted lettuce when this stuff was fresh in my Caesar Salad with Chicken, but this left me wanting more Caesar dressing because what they gave me was so thin I didn't believe there was any when it arrived, or the chicken which arrived cool, when often ai receive somewhat lukewarm chicken (do you do that for your in-building customers too?) However, my Cookie Skillet (in a plastic tray) really left the best impression on me, not only in quantity, but in quality too. Although the ice cream was a bit runny having taken 20 minutes to get here, the size of the thick, 6" diameter cookie with a thick chocolate gooey syrup was not disappointing. Sure, it didn't look like the one in the Uber Eats picture showing a multi layer cookie, but I got what I paid for in overall thickness and size. I'm glad they listened to my advice I put in the item notes, though I couldn't believe that to get utensils you had to add a package of utensils from the menu (still free but extra work to get them.) However, while this left me wanting more when theres absolutely nothing else around and wanting "something different", when you factor the prices and items in with my edible food tastes, I was wanting more for a little cheaper because most of the stuff I was craving was either too much money for too little portion, or not something my stomach can handle when I compare it to things I'd eat elsewhere also have IBS. read more

Went on a Sunday afternoon after Church, ordered Steak tips, Fish Tacos, and some kind of Chicken appetizer. The steak tips were really good, I should have asked for a fajita with it, but I know better next time. About $22 for the Steak tips, a bit pricey but worth it. The Chicken appetizer was okay, 3 out of 5 stars The fish tacos were okay I guess. Not really into fish tacos but I ate 1 1/2 out of 3. All this and 2 soft drinks, about $65 with it. The restaurant has a good balance between sports bar and restaurant with good decor. My waitress was very good while juggling multiple tasks/responsibilities. I had an All Star Burger with extra jalapenos cooked as requested and very messy & juicy--a multi napkin burger. The French fries were properly cooked--crisp and were hot when served. Our server said it was a franchise wide test menu. If it is a test, they failed. Not even a D-. I think they made the print larger in order to fill the space. A total wipeout. I usually don't write reviews but I do when I see something that grosses me out a bit, yesterday I had a wonderful waitress but underneath my fries there was a pretty big hair. Also my friends chicken tenders were extremely chewy and hard. Mozzarella moons were good though. I don't think I will be coming back, finding a hair is a big thing to me, I know it happens but it does make your stomach turn a little. I have been to many chain restaurants, and this 99 is one of the very best. The food is consistently delicious, the drinks are great, and the staff is wonderful. Tom is my waiter most of the time, he has always delivered great service and a great attitude showing how much he likes what he does. I have really good luck at this place but tonight something changed. The food was mediocre and cool to slightly warm. The server Paula repeatedly stopped at the table across from us, that had a former employee at it, while we got to order and our food delivered. no follow up or drink refills until we flagged her down. The aisle was occupied by staff hanging around chatting with the table across from us to the point we had to ask them to move so we could leave. I enjoyed my balsamic chicken off the $9.99 menu, complete with sweet corn and ziti with garlic butter. Chicken was slightly overcooked but flavors were tasty enough that SO kept stealing bites. He enjoyed his steak (rare of course) with red skin potatoes and rice. He opted for the $3.49 upgrade and loved the clam chowder. I've ate at 99 multiple times. The drs office I work at gives them good business. We order at least $200-$300 worth of food per visit. Ah yes the 99 Restaurants, the 99 reasons to always come back for more. By more, I mean more stomach aches, gas, projectile vomiting, and many other bodily surprises that will keep you guessing. It took them three days to make that potato salad- Three days! You could find better service at a self-service gas station that's been closed down since the mid 80s. The food tastes worse than it actually looks, which truly is hard to do. Empty restaurant but they open late. Came here for a business trip and the city in me had me wandering and exploring the area. This place is like a ghost town...lights out after 7pm it seems. Anyway, aside from the skeleton staff the food is typical of a friendlys or dennys quality. A burger fries and soda and off you go. I tipped well because server continued to fill up my unsweetened iced tea unsolicited. I love that I was seated comfortably in a booth and left alone to enjoy my book on a cold winter night. I Love this restaurant. The staff are nicer and more polite than the staff at similar restaurants in Orange County. The food is always great. I drive an hour to get there from New Windsor. No complaints whatsoever. Their lobster sandwich is awesome. I also often get the Sirloin Tips-with the upgrade of more ounces for a little extra money, and their seafood chowder is great too. She talked slowly like you would talk to children or someone very elderly who had trouble hearing. This was unpleasant. She also never came back to refill our drinks. At one point I had to get up, go to the bar and ask who the manager was as we waited and waited and waited and no check arrived for us to pay and end the nightmare.
