Over the 20 Years I have been coming to the 99's it is progressively gotten worse. The service is amazing. The food is okay depending what you order. DO NOT ORDER STEAK. If you want a steak to go to the Texas Roadhouse, not the 99's. The manager's do not care about the employees. They expect the servers to do everything and blame them when something is wrong. I have to say, I've been dragged to this restaurant pretty close to every week for years before a meeting we go to, with 3-5 people every week. I have, first, never had anything above a fair experience here. The food is...meh, at best. Same goes for the service. I got the sirloin tips usually and this is pretty much the only thing that you stand a chance of getting cooked the way you want it. I like things really rare. I get that they are liable if you get sick, but do the best you can that you are allowed to do. Meaning if I ask for a burger, which you'd think is hard to screw up, I shouldn't get a hockey puck that I could beat someone over the head with. Turkey tips are always burned as well. And even pasta, is dripping with oil and still pretty tasteless. Last night however, was the final straw! I ordered the shoreline combo, and the second I took the tartar sauce off the plate to place it beside me, I see a huge black hair wrapped around my fries. Not from the waitress, I mean, this thing was fried with the fries! Disgusting! My first reaction was to walk out but my father said, just order what I got, Chicken Broccoli Mac & Cheese. The waitress, who it took me forever to ever ask for anything because she walks around with her head down and darts away from tables at epic speeds, remarked that it would be longer for a new meal. I said I'd wait. Sorry, not taking the chance that you're gonna remove the hair, mix some stuff around, and bring it back to me in 5 minutes. So, the manager brings over my new meal and apologizes after everyone else is done. Says the waitress will offer me a free dessert and took the meal off my bill. Ok. I'm still pretty grossed out and now were running late so I eat some of my meal and throw the rest in a box. Never offered the dessert, but I didn't have time for it anyways. Bill comes and my new meal is on it, when I say something to her she says, yeah, we took your old meal off, not the new one! Like HELLO, was I supposed to pay for both? So I paid the same amount, got grossed out, didn't get to eat with the people I came with! Awesome! I'm done. Our group is done. That's a whole weekly group that will go elsewhere from now on. My Caesar salad had rotten lettuce in it, my husbands Seafood Chowder was served to him cold, so they then took it back and just nuked it... We waited forever for a table on a quiet Sunday evening. Apparently there are only 2 tables that could seat our larger party, one was just filled and one was just leaving. So we would wait the 5 minutes. The problem was that the entire table had left except one guy who was trying to pay the bill and neither the waitstaff or the hosts would close out his bill. He just sat there all alone at the table holding the little black folder with his bill and no one came by. We know that because we stood waiting and waiting for the table. We mentioned it multiple times to the two hosts that were standing at the front doing little to nothing. FINALLY the tab was closed and the man left. Then the table needed to be cleared .... OMG it was like we were on a hidden camera to see how we would react the the ridiculously slow clearing of the table. At one time there were FIVE employees standing around the table running their mouths and the table still did not get cleaned off. A manager went by a couple times and would grab a couple glasses or plates. And our group waited and waited, standing in the entrance. The whole situation was a sad display of laziness and rudeness. Finally we sit and waited and waited for someone to take our order, then waited way too long for the drinks to come out. The food came out and everything was good, but we couldn't get a refill for our lives. If we had this service on a crazy busy day I would have been a little understanding, but only half the tables were full and there were employees everywhere gabbing and standing around. read more

This 99 is OK I guess, never had any real problems with it . Service can be really slow at times. I kinda wish that they would automatically bring you popcorn instead of having to be ask for it but not a big deal. (My memory goes back to when the 99 at the Liberty Tree Mall used to be a Ground Round with all you could eat free popcorn and peanuts :) My problems are twofold. Firstly, I find precious little on their menu that interests me. The menu is boring !!! Potato skins are obviously frozen that they deep fry and they are usually mealy sometimes they seem like they're left over and heated in the oven. Food is average for a chain. My second problem concerns the 99 in Seabrook, NH. My mother and I used to stop there when we would go to Cow Hampshire for the day. The first time I got the New England Roast Turkey there ....IT .....WAS......AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! So much turkey, I don't even care if it was "Tour-kee Brand Turkey flavored Turkey substitute" , it looked, smelled and tasted fantastic ! It was moist even without gravy. The portion size was huge, kind of like you would get at home on Thanksgiving. A BIG mound of corn bread stuffing, very tasty. Nice gravy. Sweet honey\buttermilk biscuit. Tasty squash and cranberry sauce. YUMM.....next time we went..still good food, but smaller. next visit good but smaller....next time....smaller. In a nutshell, each time I went it got smaller and smaller !! The taste of the food remained good but it was the case of the mysterious shrinking portion ! At 10.99, I think there should be a platefull. In fact, the first time I got it, there was so much food that they had to bring the sides on the side. They side plates would not fit on the dinner plate !. Now they bring everything on one plate and there is still room. Every time I have eaten here before, the meal has always been excellent, tonight, it was the worse. My girlfriend ordered steak tips and chicken strip combo. When our meal was brought out, the chicken strips were almost black to where I could not have been able to eat them. She was not going to say anything and just eat the steak tips and fries but I asked our waiter, Greg who was excellent, about this and asked if they could do those differently. The manager came out and stated, " I went through them and chose the best 4, that is the best I could do." I am a truck driver and eat at the 99 from Boston to Bangor and never have I had a manager say anything like that at all, I was stunned. No offer to take that meal and order something differently, no offer to recook her meal, no apolgy. The only apology we were given about the bad meal came from our waiter, Greg.. My husband absolutely LOVES their Honey BBQ Chicken Wrap. We went here for margaritas once and there was a swingers meet & greet happening in the bar area. Poor Management. My son and I had dinner here this evening. He was half way through his dinner before mine came out which is always so aggravating...especially when you are hungry! I ordered a salad with grilled chicken on it and specifically asked for the dressing on the side as I don't like a lot of dressing. It came out with the dressing on the side and the chicken was totally burnt on one side. My server did not offer to take it back for a new one...and frankly I didn't care to wait. Went to the 99 in Salem, NH. My dad had recently gotten out of the hospital with CHF, so we need to watch his sodium intake. Our waitress brought us the nutrition information chart on all of the meals and the manager came our to chat with us about how they could accommodate our requests with any of the meals. They were so great about helping us, did not make us feel like we were being difficult. I truly appreciated the care that they showed us and the understanding of our situation. Decided to get some food from the 99 in Salem. Called in my order and told them I wanted it car side to go. The person on the phone asked for my cars model and color and I was told it would be 15 minutes or so before it was ready. Took care of a couple things and then went over. By the time I pulled into the car side parking spot it had been more than the 15 minutes I was told it would be. I proceeded to wait in the parking lot for 20 more minutes. During that time the other cars that were there before me, and the one that arrived after me got their food and left. The Waitress came out multiple times to collect money, and deliver food. At no point did anyone come to my car. When I reached the 20 minute mark of my wait I decided enough was enough and went inside. I asked about my order and the waitress turned around and pulled the slip off of the wall. My food had been sitting there the entire time behind the desk. According to the waitress it didn't get marked down as a car side order. The best part, was that she actually had the audacity to tell me, "it's not our fault". No apology, just a quick toss of the blame to whoever happened to take the order. The hostess stand at the front where they keep the orders can see the car side parking spots, at no point during the 20 minutes did anyone look out and see my car and wonder why they didn't have an order to match. Not once during the many times the waitress came out to serve other cars did she wonder why a car was parked here when there were no more orders. This entire issue could have been avoided with the simple question of "hi, did you call in an order?". Instead everyone just stood around as my time was wasted and my food got colder and colder. i had a party and someone brought boneless buffalo and honey mustard wings from the 99 (this specific location, not that location makes a difference). they were super good and didn't make me sick. i went recently with a gift certificate and got the buffalo wings. again, no sickness. i think my buffalo chicken sandwich debacle was a fluke, and i honestly think it was at the 99 near liberty tree mall but i don't remember because it was about a decade ago. the service was fine and the salad was colorful and the mango mai tai made me happy. read more

I've gone to the 99 a few times, many times with family. Their service is average, nothing exceptional. Popcorn while you wait for your food which is good. I highly recommend it for those who would like to eat out but dont have a high amount of money. You would be very surprised. There are some items for $9.99, which are better than high class restaurants. The strawberry lemonade has a refreshing taste, irresistible. It's right before the Beverly bridge so may be easy to miss. read more

I ordered the Backyard BBQ and she ordered Seafood platter. My order was terrible the steak tips were a little too red, the ribs were tough and the chicken was like it came outta a precooked package. The people, bar tenders, cooks, wait staff, hostess, and patrons are outstanding and make sure your visit is A1. They recently remodeled and the place looks great! Giving the bar at this 99 in Salem, Ma a great rating for their bartender Ryann. Friendly with a great personality, she really is the reason so many customers go back. Their lobster roll (seasonal) is very good ( I prefer the cold style). The burgers and onion soup ( I am told) are excellent. Prices are fair, it is clean and there is plenty of parking. Wednesday and Thursdays are Trivia nights at the bar....( it is competitive and fun but tough questions) Would recommend to family and friends. Good value, good food., great staff person! read more

The food is quite mediocre and the place is quite noisy with lots of families. In short, this is a place for the Chucky Cheese crowd. Was in the restaurant last night with my husband treating my 87-year-old father-in-law to a birthday dinner. Both my mother-in-law and I had the balsamic salmon which was raw inside. The server was a doll and offered to get us new pieces of fish but the manager came by, suggesting that our fish was not raw but actually rare, and that some diners prefer their fish rare. I pointed out that restaurants all over America are now posting warnings about raw and undercooked seafood, and only after we insisted did he take our food to be cooked more thoroughly. I honestly don't think that should be allowed, putting a guest's partially-consumed food back on the grill, it seems very unsanitary. PLENTY of other places to spend my money! read more

Done after two tall beers without any warning? You might not think so, but the 99 does! You can't go for a few drinks to unwind because they treat you like you're an underaged child. We sat at the bar, my husband who is an attorney, and a friend. The food was way overpriced. Bob the bartender was rude and barely even acknowledged us. I had to literally YELL to get his attention and even then it seemed as if it was a bother for him to refill our waters. Not friendly at all. We were seated quickly and our server was friendly. It was our first time there and we were expecting Applebee's type food. We got the $9.99 deals and were very surprised to find that the servings are rather large and the food was outstanding. My husband got a sausage pasta dish that was very delish and I had chicken and asparagus with mustard sauce. 2 dinners 1 soda a bowl of soup a salad and 2 desserts with tip was just under $35. Got take out. XL boneless buffalo wings were dry, almost no buffalo sauce on them. Came with 3 small celery sticks & 1 small blue cheese. Unfortuantly my husband and I went last Thursday 11/05/15 before a concert and met another couple who came after us. When we sat down the bartender asked us if we were eating and what our drinks would be and told us about the appetizer special 5.00 before 6:00 so we jumped on that. I am not sure it she was unhappy at her job but I had to ask her for some free popcorn . I asked her for more sour cream and we watied 10 minutes till i asked again . They were not busy . We waited for ever for our second drinks . The Potatoe skins had to much potatoe filling in them . The other couple had arrived order their entrees and bartender had to apologize she had cashed out their bill to another couple leaving and asked if they would pay for that other couples dinner which was only .20 off. Again she wasnt paying attention. No problem but then my girlfriends salad came and as she was eating it a huge honking black hair was pulled out which was none of ours. They took her entrees off but not until I said they should do that. I realize things can happen but the last time I was there with my daughter I got a complete raw burger which I sent back they forgot to turn on the stove to cook it ,told to me . I gave it a second chance. Drinks were good however but unfortuantly Ninety Nine you should really have your bartenders more friendly and your cooks on top of alittle things when it comes to preparing food.
