We went to the 99 in Stoneham on Friday night... the food was delicious... we got the boom boom shrimp and carbonate flat bread off the Valentines menu.. I ordered the pinapple upside down drink and my mom got a Expresso Martini... the waitress, atmosphere and food were excellent... will be back. read more

My family is pretty fond of 99s, it's our go-to chain American food restaurant when we're on the road or can't decide on what to eat. Unfortunately, my experience at the 99s Stoneham location on Main St was mediocre at best. We arrived at the location and got seated promptly, but we immediately saw that the utensils on the table were dirty-- which killed my appetite a little bit. We were so hungry so I decided to give it a chance, hoping I wouldn't leave with an upset stomach. Luckily, I didn't leave with an upset stomach, but I did leave with a few negative thoughts. While the food was on par with 99s quality, the journey to receive it was a bit treacherous. When the waitress came over to our table and took our orders, I began to order the grilled chicken fajita wrap, which I was informed was not available on Sundays. Not a big deal, but it meant I had to think on my feet quickly about what to order. I decided to order the balsamic grilled chicken, one of my favorite things on the menu. However, when I was ordering, I accidentally made a slip up and ordered the asparagus instead of the broccoli. After realizing my mistake, I informed the waitress and asked her if it was possible to swap the side of asparagus for broccoli-- not a huge jump, in my opinion. However, my request appeared to be extremely offensive, which I guess warranted an eye roll and a snarky response stating that this overwhelming change was impossible, as the food was already put in. Yikes! I've never worked in the food industry, so I like to give the benefit of the doubt, but after this productive interaction I experienced a eureka moment... what if the waitress went to the back and just made the change verbally? Makes me think about what would have happened if there was an allergy involved. I ended up eating my asparagus after my interaction. Luckily vegetables don't have eyes they can roll at customers. read more

This one was not a hit for me. On the good side - the strawberry lemonade hit the spot. Hubby liked his pot pie, though it was ridiculously large. My stuffed shrimp was ok, nothing to write home about, but perfectly edible. I wish I could say the same for my sides. The Caesar salad was starting to go off, and either the person who dubbed one of the options "broccoli casserole" does not know what the word casserole means, or someone forgot some ingredients. A casserole, by definition, has some kind of binder in it. It congeals and sticks together, and the contents are generally of the well-cooked and somewhat soft variety. What I got was barely roasted broccoli with a few bread crumbs on it. Hard as a rock. Hard pass. My friend's steak tips were also way overdone, and my husband's mashed potatoes "never saw butter in their life" (his words, not mine). My friends say this chain used to be good, and I'll take their word for it, but it's pretty bad now. read more

Would have given 4 stars but it took a very long time to get a small wedge salad and 2 stuffies. People that came in behind us got their lobster rolls way before us. Bartender said ours had to be cooked. Seriously!!! Stuffies are pre made and salad requires no cooking. Bartender was very friendly and attentive. Very busy with kids out of school. Actually, ate there recently and did not do take out as usual. My boyfriend and I were in shock at how dirty and disorganized things were. There was an issue with my boyfriend's meal and the manager with the long hair in a ponytail (male) did not handle it well at all. It is a shame since this use to be our favorite place for takeout. Now being in the area and deciding to eat in sorry to say we will not be back for either takeout or eating in. If the manager had handled the kitchen's lack of quality control, we would have been forgiving of the oversight on letting food come out that was not edible. read more

i eat at 99 Restaurants all over the region. I went to the Stoneham location tonight for happy hour at the bar. I sat down at 5:00 and ordered beer. i asked bartender about happy hour and she reported it was 5:02 PM and I missed it. i thought she might say ... let me squeeze it through. But no way! i ordered chicken tenders and a beer. My food arrived at 5:04 .... very fast! lol. i guess she could have honored happy hour? i won't visit this 99 again. I'm mean this isn't an elite fancy restaurant but it was a great meal at a fair price, served quickly and with a smile. What more could we ask for? My husband and I went for lunch. He had a burger and fries. I had the chicken kabobs with veggies. Both were very good. I had 3 skewers of chicken and could only eat two. The restaurant was quite busy but we were seated right away. What a fun dinner! We arrived around 8 PM and despite the full house, we were seated at one of the booths. The layout of the restaurant is nice- plenty of cushioned seats with good lighting on one side and a bar area on the other. You can get complimentary buttered popcorn if you'd like. Their menu is quite large, ranging from wings to steak to seafood, and, of course, their $9.99 full-sized entree deal! We started with their boneless Gold Fever wings, which consisted of six pieces of chicken tenders smothered generously with a honey mustard BBQ sauce. It came with a side of ranch dipping sauce and ​three pieces of celery (which looked kind of old?!). I thought it the dish was okay! The chicken was nicely done but the sauce was way too cloying for me. We decided to try their Bubble Green Tea which was a combination of green tea and orange juice. Mango flavored popping boba rested at the bottom. The drink was really enjoyable and the combination worked! The green tea was fragrant and you can taste the notes of orange. The mango popping boba was the fun part- I didn't think they'd make an appearance on the menu! They gave us spoons to scoop the boba, though boba straws would definitely be more convenient! ;- ) For entrees, I had the baked garlic parmesan chicken mac & cheese. It was delicious! The sauce they used was creamy and fragrant. The pasta was nicely done- not too chewy, not too soft. The garlic parmesan chicken was crispy and nice, but sometimes the flavor didn't come through as much as I wanted it to. I loved the variety of cheeses they used! Well, well, well, here we are again. I took an oath to never eat at a 99 ever again. But there is a guy I know and he strangely has this on his list of places to go. I refused till one day we were by one and was hungry. How could a chain be so different even if they are franchised. This 99 had way better food. I had salmon and it was delicious. They seemed to have more of a choice as far as deserts were concerned. Our server was great too. If I remember correctly his name was Paul. Tall guy, dark hair strong body. He was def a treat though. Initially when I walked in I was a lil thrown off by the smell. It smelled like a urinal and from my recent experience at another 99 it was already starting to seem like a bad night. Luckily that changed. Another negative there was a waitress that were serving the tables around us and she was so loud and kept making me jump cause it would be quiet and she would walk behind us talking to the table that she was serving and basically scream towards where they were before she got there. That was super annoying. I should have asked for her name. I get it, you're enthusiastic but c'mon. Keep the tone down to a minimum. read more

A new corporate decision to change the containers to a cheaper flimsy salad type container results in cold food and it not being packed well causing spillage. Great job to save money and retain customers. I live across the street and did take out. By the time I got home the cheese on my potato skins looked like it was in the fridge or sat out for hours because it was cold. I also had blue cheese everywhere. The prices are high and portions reduced. I won't be coming back. I'd rather pay for quality than to deal with cutting corners on it! Is this container even BPA free to serve hot food in? read more

This place has really gone downhill Never again will I visit this joint It's not the first time that I have entered and waited for the host/hostess to stop chatting with other coworkers before they pay attention making me feel invisible- And oh all of a sudden they notice you????? What are u kidding me?? I requested a table/ booth as I have A disability and my 95 year old Mom prefers a booth I was seated near where the servers stand and I guess they had nothing to do except stand there and chat so it was sooooo loud and annoying! Food mediocre... how difficult is it to make a decent hamburger ! Oh and thank you GABBY from the customer relations DEPT who came up to my car and made me move.... She had quite the attitude which made me upset - ARE you Kidding me?? To begin with, not all 99s are created equal. Some coast on the expectations created by others. Some CREATE the expectations. The Stoneham location is the latter. The lobby is open and friendly with an attentive hosting staff. The waits aren't usually too bad if you head out later in the evening. Their special menu of selections for $9.99 are amazing. Perhaps the best value of any restaurant in the area. The staff here are very friendly and always asking if there is anything they can get you, but not in an intrusive way. I've been a fan of the 9s for more years than I can remember. While on a visit to NE my cousin recommended we meet here as it is near her work.. I arrived early so I could enjoy an adult beverage at the bar, have some popcorn and catch up on Monday night football. The 9s have always had decent pub food, good drinks, and good service. Check, check, and check.. I started with the seafood chowdah and my entrée was the baked scrod. Both were fine. Service was spot on throughout. This place is a nice restaurant to grab a casual dinner. I am happy that it is open during this pandemic to grab a meal. The wait is usually very short and the food doesn't take too long to come out. However I have found that some of the staff working here doesn't have the best attitude while serving. But this is probably one of the best places to get dinner in all of Stoneham. read more

We had a nice lunch at your restaurant today. The waitress was friendly and helpful. The food was good as well. My daughter later on told me that the manager at the time who was delivering their food said "you guys are killing me" with rolling eyes to the table of children. Are you kidding me? I am extremely disappointed in the 99 stoneham. We were there on Friday March 29. One of our party has gluten and dairy allergies and protein restrictions. Last night the only item she could have was a garden salad! Every fish item was pre prepped and couldn't be modified.She always gets the baked haddock no bread crumbs . They were out of it except haddock with sweet potatoes. This is totally unacceptable! There is absolutely no reason to Pre/Prep every fish item. It doesn't take long to top haddock or shrimp then cook. You need to do better for people with eating restrictions your inability to accommodate is bad business. There should have been something the chef could have done ! The other issue is handicap parking they have 3 spots for handicapped and 7 spots for delivery and curbside I get that they make there money on that aspect but have the spots on the side leave the front for handicapped. I'm going to use the same word that everyone else has: consistent. It's something that you can count on, no matter which 99 you visit. Stopped in here on a Friday night, meeting up with some folks for dinner and drinks. I was quoted a 40-minute wait, put my name in and then bellied up to the bar. Once my whole party of 3 had arrived, and we were all seated at the bar, we decided just to eat there. Our bartender was great, keeping our drinks and our popcorn bowl filled, and taking care of our every whim. Appetizers, entrees, salads, desserts, drinks, all good, all consistent. It's not gourmet, but it's certainly comfortable and homey, and I know exactly what to expect when I walk in the door. read more

You can be sure there'll be decent food, reasonable prices, a longer wait than they promised, some dick talking loudly on a cell phone; some over indulged, Ritalin-stuffed kid kicking the back of his seat throughout the meal; delicious desserts; a table full of teenagers laughing inappropriately loudly at everything. In general, an OK place for an OK meal. I thoroughly enjoyed my smothered steak tips on Wednesday night. They were cooked exactly to order and the marinade was, as they boast, so good I really did want to lick the plate. The French fries were hot, crispy and so nicely seasoned that I did not even reach for the ketchup (but did note it's a house brand. Feh! Imaginary points off for not using Heinz!) Ugh. I haven't been to the 9s since they changed their menus. While it appears as though they've gone in a more "healthy" direction as other chains have, their food is nothing more than frozen. I'm pretty sure my salmon wasn't even salmon as it was white inside; I couldn't even force myself to finish it. It was that gross. My fiancé got the buffalo wings and he seemed to have no complaints. I had his celery sticks, which were definitely months olds- they were mushy inside? EW. The service was okay. I'm pretty sure the waitress forgot about us though, and she kept shoving the check in my fiancé's face despite the fact that it was MY credit card and I was paying. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. On my way out, I stopped into the restrooms. So disgusting- I've seen better at a gas station. Needless to say, I probably won't be back to a 99, and definitely not this location. read more

We visit a few times per year. We're not a fan of chains but every once in a while we do the local easy option of the 99. Today we had a gift card and thought Lobster Salad Rolls would be a treat. The lobster was good not quite colossal as the menu says but for $15.99 with fries and slaw I wasn't expecting Kelly's. What really made this meal suck was the roll. How do you screw up a grilled hot dog roll? Two ways: They are using something funky to "butter" the roll. Maybe it's this location but this substance tasted rancid. It was bitter tasting and disgusting so we ate the lobster only. They used the ass end of the roll package. How do you grill a piece of crust? A cook with some common sense would at least trim the crust off or not use it. It looks like crap, is too chewy and doesn't grill. Do they also use the ends of a loaf of bread for sandwiches. This 99 is hit-or-miss. The meals tend to be quite tasty and the value is usually very good. Service varies widely from visit to visit and the quality control on takeout is moderately poor. I often find incorrect items in the order after arriving home (a cursory check before leaving doesn't always find every item). I still go here as they are very convenient and the value is there. read more

Tatiana was our server last night- she was by far the most engaging and least annoying server I've ever experienced at a franchise like this. Hats off to you! I think we ordered enough food that night to try almost the complete page of appetizers. All of them were good enough, which is pretty much where the 9's stays. Solid gastro, no better, yet I've found it worse at times. I didn't feel rushed to get out of there either - it was almost the only place open at that time of night, in the area, and we were some of the last to leave.
