For a chain, this place is really good. The fillet Mignon was excellent and the french fries were great. Service was also top notch.

We like the 99's chain in general--it's a sure bet for good food when we're traveling. The menu has so many options that everyone can find things they will like and the food is all good. We stopped at the Wallingford 99's this past weekend on our way home from a youth hockey tournament at Choate and, while the food was wonderful, the service was awful. We arrived at about 1:30 pm and were told there would be a short wait for a table, in spite of about a half dozen empty tables being visible. After a 5-10 minute wait, we were seated. We had long waits for everything--having our order taken, getting our food, drink refills, and getting the check. Our waitress seemed quite frazzled, even though the restaurant wasn't all that crowded, and the other waiters and waitresses seemed similarly off-stride, again in spite of there being numerous empty tables. Based on our experiences at other 99's, I'm inclined to think that maybe we caught them on an off day. Perhaps they were shorthanded or had an unusual number of inexperienced people working. If we're back in the area I might give them another shot, but for now, based on the bad experience we had, I can't rate them too high. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of service and food. The staff didn't treat us as a 'table' that anyone can serve. Our server took care of our needs and was pleasant and attentive. In fact, my steak wasn't quite as rare as it should have been and I commented and shrugged my shoulders indicating it was ok and I didn't want another. However, the manager suddenly appeared to address my concern...I didn't expect that kind of attention to detail. I assured him I was satisfied with the steak 'as is'. It really seems like they care whether or not I want to return. I will return. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that there can be a wait...not their fault since I understand why people come here. After waiting 30 minutes, I order another beer from a different bartender and ask about how much longer for the food to be out and she stated "sorry I don't think he even put it in". I've come here a few times and I have to say, the experience has been pleasant. The food was cooked properly and the drinks were great. The Woodford sour smash was done properly, the fruit was muddled and added a nice touch. Ordered the grilled pork rib eye and was juicy and seasoned nicely. The sirloin tips were a perfect medium as ordered and all the sides were good. The server was friendly and the place was clean. And the prices are hard to beat. read more

99 House, as we call it, has so many pros that I'll start with the cons. Cons: only one I can think of and that's the comfort of the non-bar restaurant seating. The backs of the booths are straight, 90 degrees to the cushioned seat and are plain wood. Not comfortable. The bar seats are a better deal, though if you've brought the kids with you, forget about it. Now on to the pros. The food is above par, sometimes excellent if the right staff is in the kitchen that night. The service is generally excellent. The drinks are cold, the food is hot. The staff are generally pretty nice. At the bar, you get a complimentary bottomless bowl of popcorn to enjoy while you have your drink and wait for your food. If you're here to do shots, then forget about it. 99 is serious about their responsibility when it comes to alcohol. If you want a margerita, you're in luck. If you want to knock back a shot of JD and chase it with a beer, you'll be waiting an awful long time. 99 does not serve shots, period!!! This policy is non-negotiable. If you're there just to drink beer, they'll cut you off at the first sign of drunkeness. 99 is a restaurant and that's how they wish to be known. I recommend 99, but the limited menu, which rarely changes, gets old after awhile. Give it a shot or three, then find somewhere else for a change of menu. read more

We were at 99 on Sunday, 7/9/17 for dinner. The server was just wonderful, friendly and attentive and the food came quickly and was delicious. I think the prices are fair, and all the staff was good. The manager came over to ask us how our meal was, and we had a nice conversation with him. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

First time at this location. I had combo of steak tips & chicken tenders. Very good. Serving size was very generous. The best part of this visit was our waitress, Samantha. I enjoy the atmosphere and the food. I have only sat at bar. I go every Thursday for .50 wings and beer. I enjoy the company, the food and a couple of beers. What a shame....been coming her for the past 15 years because it was the quieter alternative. However...the last 5 visits or so have been way less than desirable. Some of the staff is MORE than accommodating . I have found that the last few visits that if you are there in the last hour of business you will hear the bartender yell to the kitchen " sorry guys they are still coming in " ???? Are you kidding me ? Nothing like making you feel unwanted and they do not want your business. I literally just walked out of there at 10:00 when they close at 11:00 after waiting 10 minutes at the bar never to see a single employee at the door or the bar but only the cooks feverishly cleaning the grills laughing away. No one even noticed or acknowledged I was there. I am now at another establishment 1 minute up the road enjoying my meal that I worked very hard to pay for and receiving the respect that any paying customer deserves. We have been going to 99 Restaurant in Wallingford for years. It's our go to place and we always loved the service and the food. That being said, something has changed, We went last night and noticed that the floor wasn't kept clean like it normally is. Okay no big deal as we aren't eating off the floor. However I ordered a drink and I would say that it was very watered down. It was like drinking a fruit drink. I normally get their quartinos. Then the fire alarm went off for about 5-8 minutes. The staff kept telling everyone "sorry for the inconvenience", but we never saw management come out. After 3 minutes, the sound then became extremely annoying. Now to the meat of my review. I ordered the Hot Lobster platter, which I have done many times before, and what did I get???? One half of a hot dog roll with some lobster, a cup of cold soup, and the cole slaw was not the same, very salty. I have never been so disappointed. I normally don't say anything to the staff that serves the food. It's not their fault what the bartender and the chef does. My question is; "Is it under new management?" I never see the other manager anymore. He was awesome. He would even service guests their food if the staff was busy and he would come out an chat with you at your table. I may give the restaurant another try sometime but if nothing is changed I won't go back. read more
