Made a stop in Amarillo on the way to Colorado, and stumbled upon J's Bar and Grill based on Yelp/Trip Advisor reviews. Pros: food was good, and better than expected for a sports bar, it was also practically empty so easy to grab a table. Cons: the bathroom was deplorable, the floor had standing water, waitresses took off their masks when not immediately interacting with customers, one even not wearing a mask and hugging a customer. read more

So, I usually do not write reviews on restaurants even if service or food is not up to par; but this experience has mad me extremely mad starting with the server. There were drink menus on the table, but we were only drinking water and soft drinks. When we asked the waitress for food menus she advised the waitress would bring them. She was the waitress. She came back with the water and soft drinks and immediately we noticed the glasses the drinks were served in were filth; before we could bring this to her attention, she walked off. Next we ordered and when the food arrived the orders were completely mixed up; keep in mind they were simple orders as follow: melt with sweet potato fries, just a melt, two burger patties with cheese, and chicken Alfredo. Orders arrived all mixed with sweet potato fries paired with two burger patties, melt with regular fries, and alfredo was cold. When this was brought to the attention of the manager she blew it off. One of my friends advised manager we would never return and she just walked away. Eat here at your own risk especially with basic drinking glasses being coated with no telling what. Absolutely horrible experience!!! Therefore it does not deserve a rating nor does this place deserve your hard earned $$$, or time shared with friends or family... read more

My mom and I were in Amarillo only for a couple of days on business, & we decided to eat dinner at J's one of the nights we were in town because it was close to our hotel and open late. We felt so lucky that we did, because this restaurant ended up being SO GREAT! We had ordered Fried Pickles and the Bamm Pizza to share. Both of them were so delicious!! We loved all the craft beer options, and how friendly the staff was! Our waitress and bartender were the sweetest, and the boss was super friendly! (He even gave us recommendations of other yummy places to eat in town & let us taste test craft beers we've never tried before! I have a few new favorites now!) Overall, this place was amazing, and I definitely would recommend it to everyone!! read more

We ate lunch @ 7 Grill and Bar on a Friday. My friend got the Grilled Chicken sandwich that came with a side of coleslaw, I got the meatball sandwich that also came with coleslaw, I opted to pay the extra .99 cents for a side of fries to split as well. It turned out the fries were subbed for the cole slaw; I thought that was unclear on the menu, and would not have opted for it had I known - they were very average. Nothing special here - the meatballs were small for the amount of bread and the flavor was average. My friend found the grilled chicken sandwich over seasoned. The cole slaw was good. Lots of tv's on all kinds of sports. Very neat salt water fish tank, too. Can't think of any reason to go back to 7 again, with so many other great eateries in Amarillo. read more

The staff leaves a lot to be desired. Update yes used to be a regular if you were a attentive owner you would have known us. The parking is a big parking lot but it's overshared and very poorly designed. You shouldn't hate on me I don't serve salads with bats in them bud. read more

watched a bartender brag about over charging a customer for what they didn't get ,,,,, I would be careful about what server you get there.. my server was great and gave great service i told her about what i heard so i hope the highers do what right to fix being over charged for drinks not severed to that person.. read more

Love this place!! came to J's with my family and we had a lovely experience. The Buffalo chicken strip dinner is my favorite with the ice cold beer on the side it was on point!! Came in and sat for quite awhile with no server insight. This was our first time here and I was nervous we made a bad choice. Roi came by and apologized for the wait. The burger was very good; the bun in particular was delicious. I cannot recommend the Jalapeño cheddar tots (I'm not sure there was actually any cheese in them at all). If you're not at all concerned about Covid, mask requirements, or social distancing you might like it here. In spite of prominently displayed notices about state requirements, none of the staff even thought about enforcing, or even following the mandates. 3 out of 4 servers I saw were technically wearing masks, they just all had them under their chins, not covering mouth or nose. The woman behind the bar didn't even make that much effort. She wasn't wearing a mask at all. In the back room where their pool tables are (through which you have to walk to get to the bathroom) there were 15 - 20 people, most shooting pool, and not a single mask in sight. read more

If you are a picky person you probably won't like this restaurant. Their chicken is tender but there isn't much flavor going into it. I ordered honey BBQ chicken and it tastes literally like some one just pour the sauce over it, nothing is special. You basically paid 10$ for a piece of tasteless chicken along with 2 sides. It usually a great place to have some great food and chill. For some reason today the waitress got our drink order wrong after telling her twice what we wanted then came back with little saying "no specified what they wanted so I just got these." Then had the unfortunate mishap of having a rotten piece of potato in my food that left a horrible taste. The manager fixed the food problem with fresh potatoes and a new waitress that did a better job. I guess I just expected more from this establishment after coming here for so long now. Js ha been a solid institution for food and friendly drinks. Every time I have been in there I have enjoyed not only the service from the waitresses and bartenders but also the follow up from the management team. It's understandable that there are hiccups in this business but the willingness and attention to detail helps to foster the growth within the building. I am a driver and it's hard to get food as everything is drive through or take out I called and to see if they delivered the lady that answered said they were closed and I was ok with that a few minutes later they called me back took my order and delivered to me. I had an amazing experience at J's tonight. My wife and I came in for some drinks and food and we had some of the best food I have had in along time. Stopped at J's B&G coming through Amarillo about a year ago. I had the Chicken Fried Steak w/Green Chile gravy. Sound a little unusual but waitress recommended it and I always like a new twist on an old favorite...if done well. The steak was good, thick and juicy inside, crispy outside. But the "gravy" is hard to describe, more that a sauce but not exactly a gravy. Passing through Amarillo again and wife wanted to come back. This time I got Penne Rosette w chicken. Sauce was great but pasta was overcooked and chicken tatted frozen. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because my wife has lived her meal both times. Asian salad the first time and Southwest salad w chicken this time. Her chicken was fresh and very nicely seasoned and grilled. So why couldn't both dishes have good chicken??? The world may never know. Must add, except for the CFS recommendation, service was great both times. read more

Seems we were here opening day, which was just a coincidence. There was an eagerly waiting crowd of wait staff, which could be called a giggling group of young girls. I hope the best for them but feel that waiting tables may be a short lived career for many. The place is aiming for a niche between chain sit down restaurants that are the same from city to city and local more upscale and formal places. The menu varies from burgers and sandwiches to steaks, pasta and seafood. There is a bar area which may be small if it catches on and a wine room which seemed a bit pretentious. I am a wine person but not sure what they are going for here. My meal Ordered coffee with water - Got the water had a long wait for coffee and only delivered after a reminder. No spoon to stir coffee (drives me nuts.) At least it came with half & half rather than the whipped oil spread the previous place here served with their coffee. Apricot Chipotle Pork Chop - 12 oz pork chop cooked on grill with the glaze adding no observable flavor. Thought it might be supposed to come with a side dipping sauce of some sort but the young waitress did not think so, nor did she care to check (am not a fan of wait staff who do not know the menu either.) Must add here I watched the cook grill the chops. As I watched, he continually picked them up, stabbed the side with a thermometer and placed them back on the grill. Wanting to get the proper temperature is fine, but thirty plus years of food service cooking gave me the urge to get up and give him a clue. Chop was good, but wish it had a sauce or relish of some sort. Rest of plate - Baked Potato (fine), Veggie Blend (zucchini, onion, carrot, mushroom - a little cool) Bread (fine, butter would have been nice, glad there was no margarine though). Plate warmer could help the a few things also. I am sure the place will soon get busy, wait staff will settle out, cooks will get some experience and I do hope to be able to go back. May just go to the bar sometime to watch too, I love a good show. read more

This was a great local find! We were here out of town in Amarillo and looking for some good eats and drinks. We got a beer and a few veggie and real burgers and fries. We also got the fried pickles and loved them! Although they were super salty! We think that most foods are a bit more salty than where we are from. Awesome staff and waitress! First, we tried to find a local place to support in the midst of COVID. Checked out J's menu and saw some interesting offerings. The waitress was dynamite and very responsive with our food intolerances and really tried to keep us happy, but the kitchen was a total fail. My hubby's chicken fried steak was totally inedible. The gravy was sparse and lumpy and looked like it had been scraped from the bottom of the pan. The waitress tried to remedy by bringing a small bowl of fresher gravy. The fried steak was tough, dry and way too salty. Even the broccoli was over salted (encrusted is the word) even though my husband had asked for no or low-salt. But, my meal, although fairly simple in concept, was a total disaster more because of the attitude of the new manager than the poor execution of a very well done 10 ounce steak that had been ordered medium rare. I knew I was in trouble when my entree came out 5 minutes later than the other 3 entrees in our party. The waitress immediately saw the fail and went back to the kitchen to talk with the chef and the manager. She promptly returned to say that the manager would make an adjustment on the bill if I wanted to eat the steak as served. I told her that was not happening and she agreed that the kitchen should quickly redo another steak. Back she went to put in the order and returned to say that the manager said that there were no 10 ounce steaks left so a larger steak would have to be cooked. She said she told him to come out and talk with us numerous times. I told her that we knew it was not her, but a huge dysfunction in the kitchen. By the time the "larger" steak arrived in the requested medium rare form, it was mostly fat and my dinner companions had already finished their meals. I had already eaten my fries and Mac n cheese, so it was the most unsatisfying meal ever. But, the finish was beyond belief. Again, the waitress took note of the several ounces of inedible fat and told us that the the cook had said it was impossible to cook a thinner steak to medium rare. My husband disagreed because he has done it numerous times- it takes some attention to detail, but an experienced grill master can do it. By then we were not very receptive to hearing further excuses from the kitchen or the manager who could not bother to deal with us directly. The manager knocked a few dollars off my meal (it clearly should have been comped!) but he NEVER came to our table to apologize or acknowledge our terrible dining experience. A little interface would have gone a long way. We were certainly punished for trying to support a locally owned business. Next time we'll do a chain and get a better prepared and a more satisfying meal for a value price. read more

I read the previous reviews of this place. My guess is that management did too because I had a very different experience. We were seated quickly in a comfortable booth. Our server was not a young, giggly girl. He was not old but older than the average server. He was pleasant, funny, and knowlegeable. In fact, at one point, he even recommended we skip a certain menu item as it wasn't that great. I don't know that the owner would appreciate that, but we certainly did. It is nice to have a server with genuine opinions, not just saying everything is great. He made sure my husband cut into his pork chop to ensure it was cooked to his satisfaction. My friend had asked for cheese on his burger, but it arrived sans cheese. The server quickly took back the burger so that the cheese could be properly added to the burger and melt into it a little. I thought that was thoughtful. Our drinks were refilled quickly. Prices were average for a restaurant in this town. Around $10-$15 for an entree. Atmosphere was nice. We went on a Thursday evening and there was a singer/guitarist. Very pleasant to listen to in the background without being overwhelming where you have to shout or text to communicate with those you went out to eat with. Overall, I give it 4 stars. Never really liked this place but my boyfriend dose. So I decided give in and give it another try. They changed the menu and prices went up which am not willing to pay for midiocore food. Not the best in town I think its just not good got the chicken pasta once no flavor second time around burger with some spicy slaw tasted like nothing. Well after this third visit I won't be back for sure wings were popcorn chicken with sauce.... And my buffalo sandwich would of been ok if the chicken wasn't to big for the bun with so much sauce it made the bun soggy... read more
