I have been an A-1 customer for two years and have previously received great repairs. Unfortunately, my latest experience was significantly soured by the attitude of the customer service representative (I believe his name was George). I called to schedule a headlight replacement using my own bulbs. George initially stated they would install them only 'if they were not cheap junk.' When I arrived, he inspected them and declared he didn't want to install 'cheap China junk" but went ahead and installed them anyway. Additionally, I got an oil change. While I respect a shop's need to ensure quality, this language was judgmental, presumptuous, and highly unprofessional. A-1 successfully completed the headlight replacement and an oil change, and the work itself was great, as usual. However, the lack of basic customer courtesy made me very uncomfortable and completely overshadowed the good repair job. I recommend A-1 for their mechanical skill, but management needs to address the customer-facing staff's poor attitude and disrespectful language. read more

What a great shop and service! My sister-in-law regularly takes her Prius here, so luckily she recommended them to me while I was visiting her. They really helped me when my Subaru was flashing all kinds of warning signs - they got me in quickly and fixed it without even charging me for their time. Same review I wrote for Google I am putting here. Cause shops that care are worth that and damned hard to find. I have been doing "car stuff" for most of my life and usually do all my own work, even down to timing belts and chains. But I don't own a tire machine so I usually end up at Wheel Works, America's Tire, or Big-O. All leave me dissapointed most of the time. I care about the quality of work and the value recieved, hugely. Getting the little things right really, really matters to me. I wanted to get away from bigbox USA and try a local shop out, so off to A1 I went for a tire rebalance. A1 had to give me bad news that three of my wheels were bent but they balanced them the best they could. I was very disappointed in the news but so it goes, it's not their fault. Funny enough, every other shop said the wheels were fine and I didn't hit anything new. I digress. . . So, I gave them a shot on balancing my racetrack wheels (with track oriented rubber). The three times prior, balanced at big box stores, things vibrated. I was told that it was because they were performance tiers. A1 balanced these things, said they were straight, and sent me on my way. Imagine my surprise when my car rolled along smooth as silk. Felt like an entirely different vehicle. Things were exactly as they said and work was done right the first time. On such as simple and common thing, where three other shops faltered, after multiple attempts... A1 GOT IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! I'm stingy and particular. Yet, they earned my business. read more

My family is so grateful to George and the team for squeezing us in and fixing our 2017 Subaru Outback. We were visiting family in WC after driving down from WA state. I began to hear a whirring noise when I accelerated. We were far from home and needed the car looked at and fixed ASAP so I took it to my SIL's mechanic who couldn't fit us in (we were leaving in just two days). He recommended A1. They were booked up too, but George took a listen to the engine, and fit us in---diagnosed the problem, tracked down the needed new belt tensioner and got the work done the following morning, all with friendly smiles and kindness. this is one of the few times I am disappointed I can only give five stars. I came to A1 on a recommendation from my daughter. We have an old Yaris that for the first time in years needed service. It was not a major service, it was not a big deal. But what is important is they took me in, they explained what I needed, and then when I asked is this necessary is that necessary, I got good explanations rather than a hard sell. Once everything was done oil change,check up, tires, the price was much less than it quoted. Talk about honesty and good service. Amazing service from a place of true kindness and caring! My car got a flat tire unexpectedly on the highway. I pulled off at an exit into a gas station and by the time I got there the tire was completely deflated with a huge hole. Serendipitously, I was right next to this tire shop. First, the owner offered to put my spare on at no charge. When we discovered that my hybrid did not have a spare tire, he immediately ordered a new tire and arranged a rental car for me, including a pick up at their shop. When I came back the next day, the tire was on and balanced, and I was out the door for less than he had originally quoted me. This was all unexpected and a potentially extremely stressful experience since I have a toddler and our family only has one car. However, under their care, I was able to get through it all easily. I had a fanatastic experience. I called Thursday and Kathy was extremely informative and friendly. I got an appointment for the next morning to check if the belly shield on the bottom of my Honda needed replacement or just some clips to tighten. I was there only 30 minutes and only clips were needed. My bill was $20 and NO CHARGE for labor or to put it up on the rack. Now that I live in Walnut Creek this is definitely where I will be taking my almost new car from now on. read more

Took my car in for a tire rotation and also asked them if they would mount new hub caps that I had purchased as well. When I got back to pick up the car it turned out the tires were too old to rotate. They had nevertheless mounted the hubcaps for free. They also replaced a brake light bulb that was out for seven dollars. There were the most honest and reasonable auto shop I ever gone to. They do all types of repair not just tires and I am so glad I found them! read more

My car had had the check engine light lit for some time due to an emission system issue which I wasn't too concerned with and was planning to have repaired when I had the time. Then, as soon as the weather started to get hot, my coolant temp sensor went out, so my wife traded vehicles with me and did the footwork to find somebody close to home for the repairs. Everybody was booked solid! A-1 like everybody else was booked weeks out, but they looked at the schedule and found a small window just a couple days out where they could squeeze us in! The quote to repair just the coolant sensor was very reasonable, so my wife asked if they had the time would they look at the emission issue too, not really expecting it. When she went to pick my SUV up, they had not only repaired the sensor, but a small vacuum leak (the emission issue) and replaced a bulb that had gone out, without adding any cost to the origional quote! Talk about 5 star service! I would give these guys 10 stars if possible, they've earned my business for life! Thank you A-1 Brake & Tire, y'all are fantastic! read more

I read reviews before taking my car to A1....George was the talk of reviews but he isnt....I complained and they s a id nothing they csn do....there was one diagnosis that cost $2000 I said ok to fix problem ... NOT FIXED....I say take your car to a dealership to get real diagnosis and decide from there how to repair....I try to work with smaller businesses but they end up costing much more money while struggling to stay in business....But not on my funds...money is tight!!!! .....HONESTY HONESTY... not take money and send you away still with vehicle needing repair to be FIXED and not try and create another $$$$$ then what?? read more

I wont go anywhere else, A-1 is a hidden gem!! They have helped me through some unique car engine issues and worked tirelessly to properly diagnose the cause. I really appreciate their conservative approach to ensure repairs would solve the issue and not result in further work in the future. They are honest and provide great guidance. Especially being a woman that doesn't know much about cars, they speak to me in an educational/kind way that does not seem belittling like I have found at other places. Absolutely terrible service. I dropped my car off at 8am only to be informed at 3:30 -- after I called 30 minutes earlier for status on the diagnosis even though the guy had advised he would provide status by noon --that they not only didn't have the issue addressed but also wouldn't be able to install my new wheel set due to how late it was in the day at that point. Really? So I ask myself: wtf was this pair of clown shoes doing with my vehicle for pretty much the entire day??! So what's the lesson here? Even businesses with 5-star reviews can turn out to be absolutely worthless and a complete waste of time. NEVER again with these (___O___) -clowns smh read more

I left a review years ago but am leaving another because I continue to be so impressed. First story: my wife took her BMW to the dealer because she bought one of those overpriced "service packages," and the dealer "found" $2,600 repairs. I said "no thanks" and took the same car to A1. Most of the repairs were unnecessary, and our bill ended up under $800. And THAT is why you don't want to go to a dealer, and THAT is why I love A1! They never look for unnecessary repairs, and they do great work. 2nd story: I live in Texas for most of the year, and my wife took my Audi to the dealer near our home (I know, I know...), and $3,500 later we escaped... barely. No mas dealers! The bill would have been well over $1,000 LESS at A1. A1 also just does great work in general, and provides all kinds of other favors as well, such as tightening specialized bolts and doing tire checks at no cost. read more
