Another young employee (a child really) repeatedly came to our table when we were almost finished asking if we needed boxes, but then seemed annoyed when we changed our mind on the type of container. After we put cash on the table for a tip, she repeatedly asked, "Is that tip?" and then grabbed it before we had even left. I also ordered takeout for my husband. It was missing the plum sauce for two egg rolls. She didn't believe me and had to search the entire bag, then gave me only enough for one egg roll. When I asked for more, the child employee acted irritated and initially said she could not give me more. When my friend paid her bill in cash, the child then asked, "Do you want it all back?" even though she had just taken our tip from the table a few minutes earlier. When I got home, I also discovered that the large wonton soup came with barely enough crispy noodles for half the soup. Overall, the food was very good, but the service--particularly from this child employee--felt unnecessarily irritated and surprisingly stingy.

My husband and I slowed down on our restaurant visits, so it had been maybe 6 months since we visited Lam's Pearl City. Since we were on that side of town, we decided to visit. What a surprise! The walk-up window is gone and we had to go inside to place our order. We found it funny that it was our first time in the restaurant! It turns out Lam's Pearl City is under new ownership, who got rid of the window because he wanted to know his customers. That really touched me to see an owner caring about his customers. The food is still tasty and our fried rice was the perfect shade of brown. The owner's interest in knowing his customers- along with the food - makes me rate Lam's Pearl City 4 stars.
