My husband decided he didn't want to try their pad Thai with chicken and tofu, pics wasn't appetizing. I couldn't really decide what to get, since I don't generally like most "Americanized" Chinese restaurants. Prefer authentic more. This used to be our go to restaurant as a kid. I decided to try them again and love that they still have the cool fish pond outside and the beautiful fish tanks. The service is hit or miss. I asked what they could do gluten free and was disappointed at the options. I opted for pad Thai which was basically just boiled noodles and chicken, zero flavor or sauce. My daughter ordered chow mein and liked it but it wasn't anything special. Her dad ordered the dish with the pancakes and brown sauce (moo goo gai pan). It was good but he didn't have enough of the pancake things compared to food. So very mediocre which was disappointing and not cheap. read more

I have probably dined in at Golden Chopsticks more than any where else my entire life. Since COVID, the staff has changed and the prices have gone up, but that's pretty much every restaurant nowadays. For Chinese dine in, there's not much local competition. I can't recall ever having a bad meal, and I've tried quite a few different dishes. You can't go wrong with any of the chicken dinners, and the wonton soup is the best around. My only complaint is that the soup was served in styrofoam bowls and the food on plastic plates the last couple of times I dined in. read more

It's hard for me to give a 5 star rating because I have a favorite Chinese restaurant already. However, Golden Chopsticks is turning into a favorite as well! We live close by and when we're stuck on dinner ideas, Golden Chopsticks always comes through with freshly prepared and piping hot meals! My boyfriend LOVES the chicken pad thai from here. The portion size is absolutely huge! If two people wanted to share a meal, this would definitely be it. He's eaten this for 2 or 3 meals and there is still food left over! My go-to is the sweet and sour chicken. The chicken has never been hard or difficult to chew (like I've had at other places.) The sweet and sour sauce is heavenly as well. I usually get the combo meal and get the brown rice for a small extra fee. The wonderful ladies who work here have always been kind and welcoming. They know us by our usual order and they always make sure to give everyone a bag full of fortune cookies (that may be the best part!) Another staple restaurant close to my home! Their cream cheese wontons and spring rolls are exceptional, and so is their hot and sour soup, the best I've had in ages. Everything is prepared fresh, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is pretty neat, with a koi fountain greeting you as you walk in. We called right before they closed and they were kind enough to still make a carry out order! We got the chicken pad Thai and beef lo mein as our entrees. We were shocked by how large the portions are (woohoo leftovers)! And the food was delicious. We also got the cream cheese wontons and they gave us so much dipping sauce which we appreciated. There's prompt service and then there's just being too damn pushy. 2 people waiting on us and they were both up our ass the whole time we were eating. Where's the flavor? I'm genuinely asking. Golden Chopsticks has an adorable building, and quite frankly if the food had flavor I'd be there every day. I want garlic! I want ginger! I want pungent oyster sauce and smoky wok hei! I want chewy lo mein noodles and face numbing Szechuan peppercorns! I want to live, damn you, live! But that's not what I get. Instead I get a meal that looks good, oh yes. The mu shu pork is neatly chopped, the Szechuan chicken seems to have some vegetables and the sauce is reddish. The beef and broccoli looks well-cooked - the broccoli not overdone, the beef velveted and sauced. But then, a bite and I don't know what I'm tasting. It's kind of sweet, but there's no there there. I can't even detect the soy and toasted sesame oil that form the basis of many Cantonese-American sauces. There's no garlic to be found. Ginger? Never heard of her. I want flavor! I want salty and sweet and pungent and acidic and fatty. That's what you get with good Chinese. I want garlic! I want chilis! In truth, I want Cantonese food the way the chefs would cook for themselves. How do you ask for that? Is there a secret menu? So, sadly, I won't be back. Unless someone gives me the secret menu. Shrimp egg foo young was plain egg foo young with bland, boiled shrimp thrown on top. The "sesame" chicken had all of 4 sesame seeds sprinkled on it, and was bright red, like it was tossed in Open Pit. The menu says spicy - it lied. It was SO BLAND. I had to smother it in soy sauce to give it some flavor. I wanted to try it because it's like 2 minutes from my house, versus 10 minutes to where I usually go, Gim Ling. From the second I got out of my car here to pick up my first ever order, i loved this place. I was greeted with a beautiful and serene little koi pond and sitting area, and a large Buddha statue. The location is great with easy access in and out of their huge parking lot off of Jefferson. The interior is clean and beautifully decorated without being overbearing, but a little small. I ordered almond boneless chicken and sweet and sour chicken combo dinners. Everything was 5 stars, except for the size of the rice in the entrees. I had to go back inside and order another order of just fried rice (added shrimp) for my kiddos. The food was fresh and hot. The chicken was juicy, moist, fried perfectly, and not greasy. The little bags of crunchy goodness (wonton crisps?! Idk what they're called!), that. you get with your combo the kids devoured before we even left the parking lot! Those are homemade and oh-so-good! Definitely order extra if you get soup. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend checking this place out! I was searching for the best Chinese restaurant and I know I've found it. I'm extremely picky, so every place I've ever patronized my whole life I always found myself disliking something. I have found that a lot of Chinese restaurants bulk cook a ton of fried rice days in advance, and I could always tell if it was the end of the batch; not tasting fresh whatsoever. Yuck. There rice is definitely made daily. I can't think of one complaint to give this place! I will definitely be returning to check out the rest of the menu. First time here with my ladies for a birthday dinner and we were not disappointed. The building has all the traditional sloped roofs and the inside is very welcoming. The service was quick, the food was excellent with so many choices! The portions were very generous, needed a box to take the rest home for lunch the next day. I ordered takeaway last week, and they were busy because I was placed on hold for a few minutes. When the person taking my order returned, they were good at taking my order and told me it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I went to pick it up, and there were a couple of people ahead of me, so I waited patiently. When I got to the counter, I told them my phone number, and they retrieved my order that was there. They told me me the price, I was a little surprised at the cost and asked why it was so much. The person said that the cost of supplies had gone up again. I told them that I had ordered from last years menu, and he replied that the menu has changed prices 3 times in 3 years. I paid for my food, leaving a tip and left. The food is great, although to raise your prices 3 times in 3 years is a little excessive. I'll still go back not as often, for those kind of prices, I'll be going to Bloomfield Twp for the Chinese restaurants there. read more

My granddaughter and I went to Golden Chopsticks last night for dinner. We both were very disappointed in the food. She liked her won ton soup and her dumplings but that was it. I ordered the beef lo mein and it had no flavor. She ordered the almond chicken with the gravy on the side which good thing she did because the gravy was not good. We asked for a side of sweet and sour sauce and that wasn't good either. The egg rolls tasted like all they had was cabbage or something in them. I've been to alot of Chinese restaurants in my time and this was not good. I do not recommend it at all. Plus they are expensive. Over 50.00 for the two of us. Very disappointing. read more
