This is an old staple when I was a kid. My cousin and I would eat here with the family and then when we began driving at 16 it would be our go to Chinese food. I currently live in California were the Chinese food is not as Americanized. However, the Almond Boneless chicken is an American Chinese dish I crave for. You cannot find this dish in California but it is my favorite. My wife and I visited Michigan and I took her to this place. She loved it and we saved our leftovers and ate it for breakfast. I went here with my siblings on Christmas Day and it was super busy, with lines out the door but the staff did an amazing job from taking care of all the guests to still serving excellent food, even split the bill up. The restaurant is classic to me, reminds me of the Chinese restaurant I grew up going to with my mom. The egg drop soup was great not too thick but also not oily. I tried a new dish Char Shui Bok Choi and it was excellent, slices of tender roasted pork with bok choi, mushrooms, and baby corn in a nice brown sauce which came with white rice. Let me start by saying, I wish I could give zero stars. First off, the wait time was ridiculous. We sat there forever--ONE server handling the entire place! I get being short-staffed, but come on. When the food finally arrived, I immediately regretted waiting. It was awful. It tasted like something straight out of a cheap TV dinner box. Bland, soggy, and borderline inedible. This was the first time that me and my wife tried Wong's garden & were not disappointed. Food was very good I had a combo plate with almond chicken and sweet-and-sour chicken with fried rice and it was delicious. The eggroll with the plum sauce was very very good. My wife had the Szechuan chicken which she said was also excellent. The wait staff was very helpful and answering questions about the food on the menu and very knowledgeable she took her time out to explain what the difference between the dishes were & some came with regular rice. Some came with fried rice and there were no substitutions. the almond cookie and the fortune cookies at the end were also good. I ordered a House Specialty - Kung Po Shrimp & Chicken. The taste of the source and the shrimp were OK. But the chicken had a refrigerator left over taste, and chicken was Not cooked from fresh meat, but adding the cooked/refrigerator or frozen chicken nugget and reheat with source. Another two disappointments: 1. Most of veggies were cheap veggies such as celery, reddish, and green paper and very little Chinese veggies. 2.No dry hot papper which is the major ingredient of the Kung Po but only used the hot black beans source instead. Son went with something neither of us had ever seen - General Tso's BEEF, medium. Probably the tastiest item of the night! Lightly battered & the sauce had a nice sweet heat. I opted for sesame chicken, medium. Again, a light & tasty batter in a light sauce, which snuck up with heat. Also pretty good. Now to the flip side of the coin. In addition to rather tepid service, my hot & sour soup was not much of either, but had a rather inordinate amount of pork, lending an almost bacon-like flavor that wasn't expected. Son said his wonton was just ok. Our egg rolls were ok, but drippy from the deep fryer. Not so great. Finally, our fried rice was flat out bad. We couldn't decide if it was just OLD & re-heated or was dished up with freshly washed spoons that tasted of industrial cleaner. Neither of us ate more than a bite. Found Wong's Garden in St Clair Shores by sheer luck while seeing a doctor nearby. My wife and I had been searching for a good Chinese restaurant for about four or five years, we searched from Michigan to Florida with no luck. Every place we tried OK but not great. Until we came to Wong's Garden! Their Chop Suey is amazing! We both ordered Chop Suey for lunch, mine was with chicken, her's was with schrimp. Both were excellent , served promptly with a smile, it came with a choice of soup of which we choose Won Ton, and the soup was delicious as well and of course served pipping hot. It's one of those places you can count on. Besides the standard Chinese food they also have Thai choices and Cantonese. My favorites are: Chicken Sub Gum, Almond Chicken, Vegetable Egg Foo Yung and on and on. So many new dishes to try. I highly recommend the lunch specials (Mon - Sat 12pm - 3pm). Super affordable (like $7.50 for chosen dish, rice and egg roll). Such a deal. I usually add a pint of Won Ton Soup and a pint of Egg Foo Yung and I'm good. I usually get take out. And when they say it will be ready in 10-15 minutes they are not kidding. The servers are very helpful and keep you coming back. When you gotta have Chinese food and have it fast this is your place! We had ordered almond boneless chicken and wongs special. The chicken was ok. It could have used more gravy. It was crispy though. The wongs special was good and flavorful. Had a mix of meats in it but mostly full of bok choy and none of the other vegetables listed. The egg rolls were very good along with the wonton soup. I'm not really sure what to think... It's Tuesday evening, and the website says that they are open, so I called to place a carry out order. I called several times, and there was no answer. There's no machine that picks up to let you know if they are open or closed... The phone just rings and rings and rings. It's disappointing when you are trying to find out the status of a restaurant if they are open or not, and they don't have the courtesy to have an answering machine that lets you know if they are closed because they're on vacation or what not. They have pretty good food, but this is very disappointing not knowing what their status is. They also have a note on their door letting you know that if you dine in, that a 15% tip is expected, no matter how the service is. I found that to be very rude. read more

Or crab rangoons could be disgusting.the chicken is hard and dry. The batter tastes like dry flour with the consistency of hardened bones that you want you want to remove from your mouth while you're chewing. The rangoons were dry and gritty like a chalk interior.
