Scheduling and installation of a replacement garage door opener went very well. They gave me instructions on how to setup online and activate the remote services. I was having trouble with the online setup after the technicians left. I sent an email asking to be contacted to see what I might have been doing incorrectly, and received a phone call right away. Here's where they lost the 5th star. In a condescending way, the owner (John, I believe) told me that he couldn't help me and that I should just follow the directions that I was already given. Very off putting after such great service prior. The problem was apparently because of a firmware update because everything worked as it was supposed to do the next morning without doing anything different. read more

I called the morning of 9/27 and spoke with John about having an older 8 foot style flip up door replaced with a modern roll up door in north Oak Harbor. Wes stopped by for a site check the same day, and Sharon sent a quote. By 3pm the very next day the old flip up door was gone and the new door with an electric opener was installed in its place! Our garage door was buckling and knew if we kept using it we would probably do more damage. I called A1 on a Friday night and John said he will be in the area on Saturday. He called, as promised, 20 minutes before he showed up. He was able to use a brace and discussed the plan to fix and give us more time before we have to replace the door completely. First off, John is the nicest, most professional person I have met in years! Super prompt, calls or texts with an ETA, can't be happier. We originally thought we special ordered brown wood looking CHI doors, which were more expensive than the regular white ones. But looks so much cooler. On installation day, I saw they were not the correct ones. Im assuming it was a proper lack of communication (and understanding of how specific one can get when ordering these doors), but John said it was no problem! No extra charge. He installed the two door bay with the new door and put in the order for the new doors. No complaints, nothing. He just kept saying he wants us to be happy!! Now take two, our beautiful brown doors are here and he suggests we get a belt drive on the main door, with motion sensor lights, keypad, retina scan (lol, no), new remotes, program my car, pretty much everything for a lot less than my neighbor said he paid with someone else. To be honest, I secretly wanted all of those things because our master bedroom is over the garage. When my husband leaves super early, or gets called in in the middle of the night, its like a goddamn freight train rolling under our bed, waking me and the little one up. If you are in need of any sort of garage door services, install, new doors, which is a lot less expensive than one would think, and totally changes the look of your house for the better! A True Professional! This is the second time I have had my garage door repaired in less than a year. I thought the problem was repaired the first time then it resurfaced again. I called John and explained the problem and he had suggested the springs may be going bad and causing the door to be too heavy for the motor. He came out the next day and sure enough, one spring was failing causing the second to fail too. he repaired the door at what I deem a fair price. I have made nearly all my home repairs but refuse to mess with the garage door springs because I know they can cause a lot of damage and injury if an untrained person makes a bad mistake. I needed a garage door opener and installation. John (the owner of the company) was friendly on the phone and his prices were a lot cheaper than Sears and O'Brien's. He went above and beyond what was expected of him from me. Not only did he install the garage door opener, lube and adjust the garage door, but he also lubed and inspected my OTHER garage door and adjusted its opener, which was previously installed by a friend. Noticing that our friend made some errors with the brackets attached to the garage door, he replaced and repaired the brackets FOR FREE! He could have easily taken me for some new springs, but he informed me that the springs I have, while old, are a thicker metal than what is available now, and are still in good shape. I could definitely tell John cared about the quality of work he did, and he was very informative. Two days ago my garage door stopped working. I futzed around with the sensor and remotes for a day to no avail. Yesterday I called, A1 Garage Door Specialist (Wes) to see if they could help me out. I first spoke with Wes around 11:30. He told me to leave all my pertinent info on his voice mail and he'd get back to me as soon as he could complete his work for the day. At 5:00 he called back, was in my garage by 5:30 and had replaced a bad spring and adjusted a few other things to get my garage door up and running by 6:30. I can only say they were great!
