Don't take the appointment time seriously. I made two appointments with four hour blocks. Both times, I wasted a day staying home for nothing! The first time was understandable, because a technician failed to show up for work. The problem was that they didn't bother to call to let us know, so that we would not be stuck at home waiting for an appointment they had no intention of keeping. The second time, however, was unbelievable. I mentioned to the technician that I wished they had told me they were running late, so I could plan accordingly. The technician did not like that--his response was simply "Do you want to fix it or not?" I responded "Of course I do you not understand my point? Incredibly, that irritated him because his only response was" I'm out of here." Then he left! That is way beyond poor customer service. He must have some sort of mental issues. read more

After making several calls to have someone come out to fix my washer I was refered to Affordable Appliance by another company that was too busy to make it out. Affordable was at my house within a few hours and had my machine fixed and out the door within 45 minutes. The serviceman was very informative and professional. I had an excellent recent experience with Affordable Appliance repair. I have a 2-week old newborn at home and my dryer stopped working. Yikes!!! After calling 2 other places on the south side - who not only couldn't send someone over that day, they couldn't send anyone the next day either - I fortunately called Affordable who said they could send a technician that same afternoon. They explained that the service fee would be $75 plus any parts and labor. Within 30 min I got a phone call from the technician, Andy, that he'd be there within 20 min. Andy was fantastic. So nice and helpful, taking the time to explain what was wrong (I'd forgotten to replace the link rack, so a dress belt had gone down there and was rolling around in the drum.) I also shared that the sensor was broken, and unless we did 'timed dry' for over an hour, our clothes were still damp. He said it likely wasn't broken, just needed to be cleaned. He was completely done fixing both problems with in 30 minutes! He told us the total came to $75; I asked if we needed to add more for labor and he said not to worry about it... I think he may have felt bad for this new mom with a broken dryer, newborn, and spazzy dog to content with! :) in any case, we were SO grateful for his efficiency, help, and understanding. He also offered that if our sensor stopped working again that we likely need to hire someone to clean our outside filter, which needs to happen every 5 or so years (and shared that Affordable doesn't offer this service anymore.) So just a fantastic experience overall, and Andy was an awesome technician. I would recommend to anyone!!! Love having small, local businesses do such great work. Keep it up! read more

They are so awful. Don't ever use them. Turner appliance who we've always used recommended them due to timing and I so regret sending them to help my 89 year old mom with her fridge. Rude and accused my mom of fraud because the technician wrote down the wrong expiration date of her card. He was rude to my mom the whole time he was there and the owner was rude to me in trying to get the correct info. Having to even give them 1 star is painful as they don't deserve it. I thought A Affordable Appliance Repair prices were sky high! I called them Friday morning and the tech arrived Monday afternoon for a non-cooling refrigerator. I was first charged $105 for the service call and diagnosis. Added to that was a $107.48 for a compressor relay that I could have purchased delivered from Appliance Parts Pros website for $50.38. It took the tech just a few minutes to remove the old relay and replace it and $145.00 was added to my bill. He then handed me a handwritten bill for $365. I think you will find the fees at other appliance businesses to be much more reasonable. read more

Do not use these people. They expect you to work around their schedule. I call for a Friday appointment. She said they have an opening between 12p.m. and 4p.m. and the service charge would be $105. I asked if it could be after 2:30p.m. She put me on hold came back and said it would be $145 because she said could not guaranteed they would be there before 2:30. She asked if they could call ahead to let me know they would be coming. She said that so that I could leave work. Which pretty much has me working around their schedule. Then she asked me if I could leave the key under the mat or give her the garage code. I told her NO! Then she said they have a Saturday opening I said ok. I asked if that would be $105. If I could give ZERO stars or even negative stars, I would. I called Affordable Appliance Repair on a Thursday and let them know I had a gas leak at a stove in one of my rental properties. They informed me that "due to high demand" they would need to charge me their emergency rates of $145.00 for someone to come out and diagnose. I agreed and gave them a credit card to pay over the phone. Their technician arrived at the property and said he wasn't able to diagnose the stove since gas services had been disconnected. They also ran the card I gave them and said it was declined. I was in meetings for the afternoon and unable to call back that day with another credit card before they closed at 5pm. In the meantime, they instructed my tenant to call Citizen's Energy to have gas restored and they would come back out to locate and repair the leak. Citizen's informed my tenant that until the stove was repaired, they weren't able to restore gas services. The next morning I got to the office to find FIVE missed calls from them from 6:57am to 8:34am (our office doesn't open until 9am). I called them back to provide another credit card around 10:45am. They ran it, said everything was good to go and that they would call me back to let me know when they could get someone out. At 1pm, I called them back to ask when a tech was going to be able to get out to the property, as my tenant was without gas (heat & hot water also until gas was restored). They told me that they wouldn't be able to get someone out until the following day between 10-3. This is now 3 days for "emergency rates". I was told this only AFTER they called my tenant to tell her I JUST called to pay the service fee-when I had paid it (and they confirmed it was paid) over two hours prior. At this point, I'm having to credit rent to my tenant since she has now gone for 3 days without heat or hot water. She asked me to see if someone could get out sooner. I called and spoke to the owner who said that she had one tech who could pressure test gas lines and he was completely booked for the day. I reminded her that this was a TRUE emergency since my tenant had no heat or hot water until the leak was repaired, she informed me that this was MY FAULT because I failed to provide them with a valid CC number when I first called. She said IF he was able to finish his last service call prior to 6pm, then he could get out that day, otherwise it would be the next day. She ended the call letting me know she was "doing the best she could". I messaged my tenant that evening, no one had called or came. Fast forward to Saturday. Tenant contacts me around 12pm to find out when someone was coming. I told her all I knew was between 10-3. She messaged about an hour later saying she still hadn't heard from anyone, so I call their office only to be sent straight to VM. I left a VM asking for someone to call me back. No one ever called or came. Fast forward to Monday. FIVE days after I called and was told I would need to pay their EMERGENCY RATES to get a technician out - which I was happy to do, considering this was a true emergency. I call at 9am when I got into the office and sat on hold for 15 min. During that time, my tenant messaged to tell me that they sent a plumber out to fix her stove and was told that there was nothing he could do because he was a PLUMBER and didn't work on appliances. She also said he was very rude. When I was finally able to speak to someone (the same woman/owner I spoke with on Friday), she again talked down to me telling me "none of this was their fault", insulted my tenant saying "she was running her mouth and the house had so much laundry piled up in front of the furnace that their plumber couldn't even get to it", "plumbers don't work on gas lines", and finally informed me that he walked on the job due to the circumstances. She also mentioned that their technician came to Fishers on Saturday instead of the property address-yet no one called me or the tenant all day Sat. When she finally stopped, I tried to inform her that plumbers DO work on gas lines, as it was my plumber who repaired a leak at the furnace last Thursday who informed me the other leak was at the stove... which was why I called them-because I needed an appliance technician to repair a leak at a GAS STOVE. She rudely interrupted me multiple times. I told her that I listened to her and asked if I could have a turn to talk - at which point she told me that she wouldn't be sending anyone out and wished me luck in life, just before hanging up on me. Just a few minutes later, I received a text saying this was all my fault, accusing me of trying to scam them and refusing service to me in the future. I really wish I could un-check the one star, I was forced to click. Poor customer service and the technician needs to retire. Charged way to much for a $20 part, I still have an issue with a leak. My sewage pump went out but the technician was to lazy to tell me that was the issue. He charged me $300 for a toilet seal cap, that didn't even fix the issue only masked the issue. The telephone staff were extremely courteous, they gave me a same day appointment to diagnose the problem ! Brett was great....pronounced the sump pump and back-up battery. Had a non cooling fridge/freezer. Repair person came out and completely misdiagnosed the problem. He said it needed a light switch panel that had to be ordered, and it also needed a drain cleaning (2 days to completely defrost). A couple days later I called in (as no contact back even though it was promised), and I was told that this part is not available. I kept telling them that there was no problem with the light switch, and asking them to come back and do the drain cleaning. I had to call and call back. I was told both verbally and in text message 5 times that my fridge is un-repairable, I need to throw it out. Luckily I didn't give up on my fridge, which is working perfectly now after a drain repair. This size and type of fridge costs about $2,000, yet they refused to refund the $75 diagnosis fee. They keep telling me that this charge is valid because their guy came out and "diagnosed" my fridge. I am so glad I got a second opinion. I do not recommend this service to anyone. I gave a 1 star because 0 star is not an option. Not to mention that the repair guy was rude, literally threw my food around from the freezer, threw the back panel's 5 screws out (as not needed I guess - I don't have the back panel on for this reason), walked with his muddy boots through my freshly cleant laundry room, dining room and kitchen, and was shouting so loud that woke up my kids. But all these wouldn't matter if he didn't misdiagnosed my fridge, and the company would stand up for their employees' mistakes. Will never consider again. read more

I called about halfway through my 4 hour window just to make sure I was on the schedule even though it had been confirmed by 2 separate people. After waiting almost 10 min on hold, I hung up. They called me back to inform me that they scheduled me on the wrong day AND they didn't have the part they needed from the previous weeks appointment that they assured me they would have. This review is for "A Affordable Appliance Repair" dba "Choose Your Time Appliance Repair Inc." located at 144 East Elbert Street, Indianapolis, IN 46227. I own a Haier portable washer machine. Whenever my machine spins during a wash or rinse cycle there is a loud audible tickling or thumping sound throughout the entire cycle. It sounds as if a chain or belt is loose and the machine is about to malfunction. I called Haier to report this issue, among others, and they agreed to send out a local technician to troubleshoot and repair the machine. Chris Gibson is the technician who looked at my washer on May 6, 2015. Upon inspecting it, he discovered a penny at the bottom of the washer and explained that this was causing the noise. Additionally, he took a pair of pliers and tightened my water inlet hose to prevent future leaking from the machine. However, he never troubleshot the issue with the chain or belt that causes the tub to spin within the machine. After having loaded my washer and and starting a new wash, I discovered the problem still existed. So on the morning of Friday, May 8, 2015, I called "A Affordable Appliance Repair" dba "Choose Your Time Appliance Repair Inc" and spoke with "Whit" about my problem. She then discussed my concerns with both the technician and the manager/owner Jennifer, and subsequently tells me that I would have to pay $85 for the tech to come back out or $850 for a new tub. When I reiterated to Whit that, although my washer tub has some indentations in it, the problem I reported was for a loose chain or belt causing noise. But for some reason, they were focused on telling me that the problem could have been with the tub itself. Whit, who I might add was not only rude, argumentative and defensive, responded by saying, "You will need to contact Haier to have another company sent out to look at your machine. According to our technician, it's only a small portable wash machine anyway that cost a couple hundred dollars. It's not like it was an expensive machine. Good luck with calling Haier and having them send another company out!" Whit then proceeded to hang up on me. As a result, I called the company back and this time the manager Jennifer answered. I introduced myself before sharing with Jennifer how rude her csr/receptionist Whit was prior to hanging up on me. Jennifer explained that she instructed Whit to tell me to call another company for service. I responded to Jennifer that I would do just that, but informed her that it was not necessary for Whit to be rude or hang up on me for trying to explain that my problem was never fixed by their technician. Jennifer's response indicated that she was just as disinterested in rectifying the problem as her receptionist. As of today, my washer problem still exists and my issue with this company is this: 1) A Affordable Appliance Repair dba Choose Your Time Appliance Repair Inc failed to fix the problem as initially reported, 2) excessively poor customer service by all involved and 3) this company will process a claim with Haier America for payment on a service call when they did NOT fix the issue as reported. Bottom line - they should not be paid since they didn't fix my washer. I will also add that the technician was so busy taking personal calls during my service call that perhaps he was too distracted to located and correct the problem I reported. This operation is awful! I had a firm appointment for 1:00-5:00 pm. At 3:30, I called for an update regarding when the tech was expected to arrive. I was told, "Sorry, we don't have a technician in your area today." Seriously??? Even the quoted price was outrageous, but it was a weekend and we really needed to get our oven fixed quickly. By the way, we live in NC and it appears their "call center" is in VA. This is probably just an outfit that brokers appliance services and doesn't have a single tech on their payroll. read more

Our fridge stopped cooling and we needed it fixed right away. Our home warranty company assigned another company to the claim, but they couldn't get out to look at it for a couple of days. We asked to be reassigned to someone who could come sooner, and within an hour Dale from Choose Your Time Appliance (A Affordable Appliance Repair) was in our kitchen evaluating the problem. In less than 20 minutes, he had diagnosed the problem and told us exactly what needed to be done to fix it. He showed me how to defrost the fridge, something I had no idea how to do. He and the rest of the staff quickly got the work and parts approved by our home warranty company, and he called me before 8am the next morning to let us know it was approved and he could come back and complete the repair. Within an hour, he was back at our house and the work was done. The fridge has been working perfectly since. This company did everything they said they would do and by far exceeded our expectations. Vicki in the office and Dale the technician were wonderful and helped us get our problem solved the right way and much faster than we could have imagined was possible. I called an hour before my window to confirm my scheduled appointment window which was 1-5 pm. The Tech calls me at 4:48 and tells me he is 45mins away! I would never use Affordable Appliance again. I spent my half day off (PTO) waiting for the Tech and he calls me at the end of my window. We had dinner plans that evening with friends at 6, so I could not allow him to continue out to my home knowing I would have to leave. Maybe someone at the office could stay on top of what is going on out in the field and communicate with the customers............TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! A Penny for Your Thoughts - Well Here's My Two Cents According to the May 8, 2015 Better Business Bureau response from A Affordable Appliance Repair/Choose Your Time Appliance Repair Inc., "We sent a tech out and he removed a penny from the washer tubs (this is also NOT covered by manufacturer warranty however we did this at no charge to customer as a courtesy)." While I am grateful that the technician found one coin (a penny) in my washer, please note that I could have, "removed a penny from the washer" myself. Please be further advised that Haier America never made, "it VERY clear that they will NOT pay for the repairs since the customer is the one that damaged washer." First of all this statement as claimed by this repair company is entirely false. Haier America clarified that they would not cover or replace the drum inside of my washer due to incidental damage (indentation marks). However, I have an email directly from the manufacturer (Haier America) CLEARLY stating that all other repairs would be covered under warranty. That being said, after reporting the sound issue with the loose belt/drive chain to Haier, the customer service representative instructed me to contact "A Affordable Appliance Repair dba Choose Your Time Appliance Repair Inc" to schedule a service call. Conversely, it appears that the AAAR/CYTA technician was dispatched not to fix the washer drive chain (and noise) as reported, but to VERIFY damage to the inner drum so that Haier would void out my warranty for the rest of the unit. While A Affordable Appliance Repair/Choose Your Time Appliance Repair was privy to this tactic, the scheme to verify damage to the washer drum was NOT made known to me. Otherwise, why would I have wasted my time to call, schedule, and meet with a technician solely dispatched to view the drum but had no intention of actually repairing or replacing the washer drive chain/belt problem as reported? The AAAR/CYTA Better Business Bureau response also states, "We are a very honest company and we let every customer know when their appliances wouldn't be worth repair." Nonetheless, Whit's dismissive, rude, and belligerent delivery of the information was extremely insulting - not to mention the fact that she hung up on me. When I called the company back and spoke with the manager/owner, Jennifer Mc Corkle, she was just as dismissive as Whit was. Customer Service skills, standards, and quality of service are clearly lacking with this appliance repair company. Their behavior as demonstrated today (lying, argumentative, deceptive, and hanging up on customers) hardly coincides with how employees of "a Christian Owned Service" should act, let alone reflects sound professionalism when dealing with customer related issues.
