Cindy sends me an unsolicited email basically saying I should take my business elsewhere. That was a year after our last conversation. There was no need to send that other than to be insulting. Cindy left out several key facts. I didn't order anyone to fill the tank beyond the limit. The guage clearly showed 10%. The fact that they were unable to fill the tank to only 181.8 gallons was acknowledged. Although I was frustrated, as Cindy said, I thought we reached a mutually agreeable solution and I would pay for 200 gallons at the discounted rate. So as if I cared about my propane issue over a year ago, Cindy decides it's a good business decision to tell me to take my business elsewhere when I didn't even contact them since June of 2025. She then goes on about the procedures to find a new company. This falls under the "nobody asked you" and why are you contacting me. The issue was resolved in spite of her attitude over a year ago. I believe Cindy is not suited to be talking to customers. I don't want or need her advice. I certainly don't appreciate her digging this up over a year later to say "... take your business elsewhere". I recommend some personal therapy and a different job. A&B Propane claims to be about service but needs to learn what that means. On January 2, 2026 my gas stove and fireplace in Sandbridge stopped working. My propane tank read less than 10% so I called A&B. They told me my delivery was changed to "As needed". They also said the soonest I could get a delivery was 26 January and I was #9 of 39 on the list for delivery. On the afternoon of 26 January i called them again and was told the delivery was scheduled for the week of 26 January and would not call me when delivery was made. I called on 29 Jan and was told they would try to deliver on the 30th. I called on the 30th and was told they would try to deliver with possibility of overtime (late delivery or potentially a Saturday delivery. I called at 430PM to get an update but no answer. No delivery. Called 2 Feb for an update...nothing but that they were waiting for the roads to clear. read more

A and b propane is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with ever in my life and if I could rate them negative I would. Cindy is one of the rudest people I've ever spoken with over the phone. after my last interaction with her I finally had enough with her condescending tone and attitude towards my wife that I did get nasty with them. When I first bought my house we were never told that we didn't own the propane tank and one day they showed up at my door when I was deployed and told my wife they were coming to take the tank so my wife's called to try and figure out everything and the woman that answered the phone wouldnt even let my wife finish her sentence. so I called from overseas and got a little rude because she was completely rude to my wife she changed her tone and everything was ok and then a few months later they kept coming to my house even when I didn't need propane and were charging me 70-100$ every time with out ever pumping propane so I talked to the service guys and they informed me they would change my schedule once a year or to were they only came out if I called but if I didn't meet the requirement due to the rental that I would have to pay for the rental. I agreed since then they still come out place bills all over the place, like on my back door on my garage that we don't use. I have a bill where they are trying to charge me $70 and it even shows they provided no service. Terrible company, terrible people read more

I am visiting Virginia and living in a van while I am here. The van uses propane for appliances, but the propane would not turn on. I had been getting blown off by RV dealers, and finally called A&B propane for help. I took the van in, and they troubleshot the problem being a miswired switch. Propane is now working. A&B did not even charge me for solving the problem, even though I offered. I wrote this review on my own initiative as a way to acknowledge their coutesy and professionalism. read more

I called, spoke to Vincent indicated am looking for fitting, hose and regulator for small application. Said come on in we have lots of accessories and fittings. Showroom was a propane user's walk-in catalog, lighting, grills of all sizes and price. Even an antique Chambers stove from the 1950's. Described my application to Vincent, he indicated what I needed to do to make work, I considered buying a tank, he honestly responded, trade my tank at a refill site. The degree of candidness and honesty demonstrated by this individual, is rare these days. If anyone is in doubt where they should go for propane, accessories and a magnificent assortment of high end grills to more affordable versions. Look no further than Vincent, at A & B Propane. Reading the reviews of others; those who express dissatisfaction due to expecting a refund of unused fuel in their tank; are, irrational! It's up to the subscriber to use down the tank or leave it for the next family. As far as answering my phone call, it was done courteously and answered, instantaneously. We were taking our first 2017 camping trip a week ago in our 2016 Roadtrek CS Adventurous camper van. Went to use the propane stove & it wouldn't work. Hubby looked under the RT & noticed a mouse had eaten 1/2 way through the hose. He made a few phone calls & was referred to A&B Propane in Chesapeake, VA. Hubby spoke with Vince who told him to come on by - we'll see what we can do. We left camp & headed to see Vince. He was fantastic. Took care of us right away, replaced the hose, filled up the tank & we were back on the road again in less than an hour. If you ever need propane & are in the area, please stop at A&B. A & B Propane cannot be trusted. Please read before choosing their company's service, despite how kind their reps sound on the phone and pro-military they sound... A & B came to pick up a tank that was used for the purpose of showing the residence I recently purchased. I priced different propane contracts out after buying the house and found that one of their competitors had overall better rates. Their empty tank was set about a foot to the side of the newly placed tank from the winning company's tank as is typical protocol until they could come pick it up. I just had the new company's tank filled to 80% (allowing for expansion, it's winter, and the new tank was used for about a week before A & B showed up to collect their tank.) I was away from home when they stopped by, but just long enough and with enough confirmation from others in my neighborhood to know that ONLY A & B Propane had visited the property when I was away. I arrived home to hear a loud hissing and notice the overwhelming smell of leaked propane. This is the first property I have had with propane service and I drove to my dad's half a mile down the street to have him assess the leak since he has dealt with the tanks before. He went over immediately and found the leak at the base of the unit. It was at the release valve that only employs when the weather is hot enough to expand the gas to the point it needs to release or compromise the tank (it's February and cold.) He manually closed the opened valve and I had 5% left in the tank. He came back and said "hey, I hate to say it, but that looked like foul play." That valve had to be manually opened. A & B Propane had just stopped by and worked within a foot of the new company's tank. The tank was emptied to the point that a service tech from my new company needed to come check it out to the tune of an additional $75 as well as refill the tank that had just been filled a week prior. The tank was fine, not faulty at all, and the problem was that the valve had been opened. I brought this scenario to the attention of A & B Propane, spoke with their technician as well as his supervisor. They assured me their technician would never do something like touch another company's tank. I simply said I can't know for sure what happened in my absence, but I know that 1) only A & B stopped by 2) they worked within a foot of the new tank 3) I arrived home to a hissing and a major fuel leak from their competitor's tank and now am out the technician check fee and the fuel that had just been placed a week earlier. Apparently I was too kind because they are not going to make any sort of restitution even though the circumstances add up to someone tampering with the competing company's tank. I am a peacemaking person, have no enemies and just moved to the area with my four children following my husband's death in Afghanistan a few months ago. This was a sick thing to do and I think people should be forewarned of my experience so they can make their own judgement call on whom to trust with this flammable commodity. read more

Beware of this company!! Read your paperwork very carefully because they will find any way to ensure they rip you off. We lived in a home in Chesapeake for 8 months and had to move due to work relocation. When we departed, they told us that we would receive a refund in 15 days. We checked back a month later and they said they were never notified so it restarted the 15 days. A month later, we ask again about the refund for our tank we left with almost 70% full and are now told that because we didn't have service with them for a year, we were not due a refund of the remaining propane. This means they topped off the tank and charged the new owner for a full fill. And then she had the nerve to tell us she don't understand why we are upset, it isn't that much. What may not be that much to you may be different to me. I was uncomfortable using this company from the beginning, and would pursue a civil suit except it isn't worth the cost of the legal rep and travel. Buyer beware. read more

I have never had a gas fireplace before so I appreciated that he took the time to explain what he was doing as he performed the service. Very bad customer service , discontinued my service and they still continued to fill my tank and bill me , still have not picked the tank after 3 months,, called 10 min. before they closed , they answered and refused to help because they were closed. Its company's like this that have helped the decline of the American small business. all they want to do is make a dollar and once they have your money , you are left in the dark until they figure how to get more money from you ! read more

First off,I'm not one to write reviews that often but I had to with this company,I refuse to let anyone else be treated this way. I had called weeks ago to become a customer with this company. The lady named Doris had explained that I had to pay upfront for our 100 gallon propane tank to get it refilled and inspected. My husband doesn't feel comfortable with that,she said that she would call me back with other companies. Never heard back from her,I called the company today and I spoke with Doris. She talked back to me by saying that she called me,she never did. They lost a potential customer. I have NEVER dealt with such a rude person,very short and a lot of attitude. She threw things in my face, told me that I wouldn't get service with other companies due to my situation. They're a "small,local,family owned company" and I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND them. They're very hard to get ahold of and have very rude staff. For a small company,it's very disappointing. read more

Consumer be warned. I rented a house in which was already using A&B propane for their gas so I had to transfer the account to my name. Not only did they publicly shame my credit around the office and speak about it outloud in front of other customers, they did not have the correct information. They had that I had two unpaid judgements. I provided proof that I had cosigned for someone else and that's how the judgements appeared, however, they were paid as proven by ALL THREE credit bureaus and the credit report I had on hand. We were able to work out an agreement to keep the tanks in the owner's name but I was responsible for the 2015 rental of the tanks plus the gas. I paid this amount and moved on. However, every time they delivered gas, they refused to bill me - they billed the owner who travels with the military. They had no problem blowing up my phone or sending me cancellation letters though. Some how sending me a simple bill ( with the owner even calling in an asking them to do so) was more work than calling me for payment and sending a cancellation letter. If you can send me a cancellation letter contacting account information, you can surely send me a bill. This past time that I called to pay the bill I was told that there was a balance for renting the tanks for the year that was unpaid. As usual I let them know I did not receive any bill and did not know. I offered to pay the normal $56 fee for them coming out and I would call back to pay the $80 tank rental but nope, they wanted it all at one time. So I called to make this payment on a Tuesday at 240pm. They never told me someone was in route to get the tanks. The person not only entered my fenced in property in which I had already called twice to advise we had a fence with dogs and I needed to know in advance when they were coming, but they also let my dogs out AGAIN. I was able to cook lunch at 3pm so the tanks were still there at that time, after I paid the bill. When I got home at 7pm, my tanks were gone and the dogs were out. I called A&B about this and due to their manager not being there they could not do anything about it. For a few days this went on and finally I got a call saying they would reimburse partial, not the full payment. When I asked why they said the tanks were for the prior rental year. I said no, I already paid $101 on that in 2015, that's not correct. This company is very unprofessional and does not care about their customers. I did file a complaint with BBB in which they never responded to, though a letter was sent. I will be sharing my opinion of A&B warning every other person of this matter. I am glad we got away from them though. Ferrell Gas is MUCH cheaper, will provide one tank with a meter instead of forcing us to keep two tanks, doesn't charge extra fees for them coming out and offers a free set-up. I support small companies 100% but I am VERY disappointed in this company. read more
