First visit, he troubleshot a closet light that had lost its neutral behind a ceiling fan, tracked it down and reconnected it. He also diagnosed a dead 3-way switch in the hallway -- turned out the prior electrician had wired it wrong on a single pole -- and converted it properly to a 3-way. Knocked out a kitchen can light switch while he was at it. All done in about an hour. No other electrician was able to figure it out the closet light kerfuffle, but Victor did! Turns out he has nearly 30 years of experience! Second visit, Victor and Francisco came out to remove a 6" recessed can light and splice onto the switch leg to power a new ceiling fan I'd had installed. Clean work, everything labeled, no loose ends. Done in about 2.5 hours. Rates are fair ($125/hr), they show up when they say they will, and Victor clearly knows residential electrical inside and out -- he doesn't guess, he diagnoses. The kind of electrician you want working inside your walls. Highly recommend for anyone in the Peninsula area!

The breaking point was when the internet became unreliable because the power was unreliable and the stove stopped working. I contacted Alex and he said he could send someone over that same day. He was transparent about the pricing before the job began. When his team member (Ming) came over he was thorough and transparent about what he found and Alex came over to assess himself. Turns out one of the main line coming into the house on the verge of burning out and thus the other 110v line was trying to compensate which caused it to also overload. This explained why the 240 outlets were not functioning. Our electrical was just old and the age caught up. He gave a reasonable estimate and fixed it by the end of the day. In passing, I also mentioned that although our stove worked, it seemed that it's power fades as I use it more and he was able to determine that line was under gauged for the load and was a fire hazard. Looking up the prior setup before my recent renovation, I see that they had incorrectly reduced the stove line from 40amps to 30amps. Alex and team was able to solved that problem as well, giving me updates along the way and providing very easy to understand explanations. This was an annoying problem plaguing us for years! Again, the pricing is very reasonable and the quality of work is exceptional. I highly recommend Alex Tong and his team.

We hired Eminent Electrical for a major and expensive project to replace our old knob-and-tube…read moresystem with a brand-new, grounded electrical system. Our top priority was the safety of our home and family as we had a less than a 1 year old at home. What we discovered post-completion was frankly terrifying, and the company's subsequent non-response is completely unacceptable. Alex completely brushed off our concerns Early in the project, we raised concerns when we discovered a cosmetic "shortcut" (a drywall patch done with toilet paper instead of proper material. they literally stuffed toilet paper in the wall then laid joint compound on top). We were personally assured by Alex that even though there were minor appearance issues, they would take absolutely no shortcuts on the actual electrical work. A few months later, while I was installing a simple light fixture, my father and I discovered an unmarked hot wire. In this switch box, a white conductor was being used as the LINE-Hot wire (constantly energized). This unmarked wire could have easily been mistaken for a neutral by anyone working in the box, which could have led to someone getting killed. When I informed Alex, he said I shouldn't be doing wiring, and admitted it should have been taped. He offered to come over and tape the wire (I already did it myself). No apology at all. It feels like they took short cuts throughout the job- if they failed to properly mark a live wire in the first box we opened, we simply cannot trust the integrity of the rest of the expensive rewiring job. When it comes to the safety of your home and family, avoid this company.

EJ Plumbing / EJ Home Services came to my home this summer to replace a water heater. The…read moretechnician who initially came out to provide the estimate was very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. From the phone calls I had with the company before the installation, I also got the impression that they were well staffed and a fairly large operation, which initially gave me confidence that everything would be handled professionally. I called around and found that EJ was on the higher end price-wise, but I was impressed enough with that first interaction that I decided to go with them. They were also able to install the new water heater ($3k!) later that same day, which I appreciated. Two technicians came out for the installation. Both were friendly, and the installation itself appeared to be fine. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the follow-through and the condition in which the work area was left. After showing us the completed installation, the technicians left without staying to make sure everything was operating properly once we turned on the hot water inside the house. As first-time homeowners, we didn't know that air would need to be bled from the plumbing or that we might initially see sediment coming from the faucets. When we turned on the water about 45 minutes later, we weren't expecting either of those things. It would have been very helpful--and reassuring--if the technicians had run the hot water inside, confirmed that everything was working properly, and explained what we might experience following the installation. We also discovered several hours later that small pieces of installation debris had been left around the work area, along with a screw/nut and a long, thin piece of plastic pipe. There were also dirty fingerprint marks left on the door leading to the water heater. I don't expect a work area to be spotless, but after paying for a professional installation, I do expect the installers to clean up the materials and debris from their work and leave the area reasonably clean. Another frustration was the permit. We were not informed that a city permit and inspection would be required. We later learned about this ourselves and had to apply for the permit and arrange for the inspection, which required me to take a half day off work. As first-time homeowners, this process was new to us, and I would have expected a professional plumbing company to explain the permitting requirements when the water heater was replaced. I initially chose EJ because of its excellent ratings, the professionalism of the technician who provided the estimate, and the impression that I was dealing with a large, well-staffed company. Unfortunately, my experience showed me that a larger operation doesn't necessarily translate into better attention to detail or follow-through. We were apparently their last job of the day. I can't know whether that affected the service we received, but the way the job was wrapped up and the condition in which the work area was left made the experience feel rushed. For the price we paid, I expected better follow-through and attention to detail. Based on this experience, I would not recommend EJ, and in the future I would personally choose a smaller plumbing company where I might receive more individualized attention and follow-through.
