This stems from a visit a couple of weeks ago on a cruise night I attended with my car. I got there early, as always, to get a bite to eat. The manager, a woman with long black hair and glasses, and old enough to go better, comes to the window, no "hello" or "Please" or "Thank you" So I called her out on it. She said the place was in a "Mess" right now. Oh well, too bad, you don't take your attitude out on the customers especially if spending almost 11.00 for a bacon double cheeseburger, onion rings, and a drink. I hope these low reviews give places a chance to reflect on what they did wrong and hopefully correct it, because next time if I go back for the car cruise, it'll be the same thing. We live in Massachusetts but try to stop here anytime we're near by. We're burger people, but had to try the Chile Hot Dogs. They were delicious. We also had Clam Cakes and Fries. A&W is a classic unfortunately the food is mediocre. The food here has always been only okay nothing special. It is the establishment itself that is worth the trip. It was a beautiful warm spring day and we were hungry and wanted to eat outside. We headed to the hell that is Greenville. The traffic in this town is dreadful. We got to A&W and decided to eat at one of the picnic table that are set up outside. There is car hop service but we voted against eating in the car as it was so nice out. Went for the second time this year, and wanted to see how it was since the springtime when I was there last. It looked like they had done some work on the building (newer bathrooms, patio upgraded, etc); the menu was pretty much the same and most of my favorites were still available. Also I was very glad to see that they had finally INSTALLED AN ATM!! So even though they are a "cash only" location, they at least had an option to get cash on the premises. As I was aware, it was going to take longer because the food is cooked to order. We chose carhop service with the tray on the window. Our carhop was an "older" woman. I say older to mean an adult and not a teenager. She seemed experienced and was extremely friendly and knowledgable. Food was hot and good, onion rings were great. Had two floats in frosted mugs. I am giving this 2 stars for 2 reasons only. One is that they offer car hop service and those girls work hard. Two is that they make their root beer fresh daily and the floats are good. I would never, ever go here for the food. My wife ordered a grilled chicken salad. 20 minutes later she got a box with lettuce, 1 slice of tomato cut into 4 small pieces and about 6 bits of chicken. No cucumbers, carrots, onions, nothing. My chili cheese dog was small, the bun was okay, but the chili was below average and there was not enough cheese to taste it. And it was small. The onion rings were.... well I would never order them again... hard and crispy and tasteless. Went here after hearing about it from a friend. Waited a long time for service and my food, despite only being 2nd in line. Burger was somewhat mediocre, fries were okay but a very tiny portion, and my root beer was flat. It was all way overpriced as well. Remember when people used to actually smile and say thank you when you spent your money for what they were selling! It may seem silly but that's one reason we came back! We were helped by a young girl who we think was new. She was very deliberate in taking our order but she was very nice and got everything right and said Thank you. My wife ordered a Chili Dog, which she said was excellent and fries which she said were Not bad. I had the Papa Burger, which was excellent with a nice sauce and both of us agreed the Onion Rings were delicious. which like the Fries were not greasy. I had Root Beer, I LOVED IT and the wife had an Orange Freeze which she said was great. A drawback is Cash Only and and it is a bit pricey, but the food was freshly made so you do have to wait a bit but we think it's worth it. Yes, by definition it is fast food, but we've been to a ton of other fast food places and have had old french fries and gross reheated burgers and been treated badly by poorly trained customer service people who have no manners and more than a few times screwed up our order. First the good. The root beer was good and the service was good. The bad: They don't take credit cards, and they don't make it obvious until AFTER you order... In 2018 even farmers market stalls take credit cards using Square with their low percentage cost. Had to use the ATM and pay $5.00 to take out $40.00 to cover my $27 meal for a single patty bacon burger meal, fish and chips, a single kids chicken tender meal, a bottled water, medium Sprite, and Root beer. The burger was average. My Bubba Burgers on my grill at home taste better. The kids chicken tenders were almost unbearablely salty. And the fries were small, thin, and crunchy. But the worse by far was the fish and chips. It looked like the fish patties you find in your supermarket frozen food aisle. Definitely not Iggy's quality fish and chips. I came her a few years ago and I remember it was pretty good. That's why I came back. But with Sonic open nearly right across the street offering in car service and much better quality food for the price, this A&W may not be around too long, which is dad because plenty it classic places manage to stay popular by making sure they keep the the nostalgia but also try to incorporate modern trends. read more

If your a Rhode Islander then you obviously have come here or its your first time. It's a bit of a drive but anywere in ri is about a 30 to 45 min drive and people will say it's to far. We come every year before the summer for the a&w float and a burger. I understand the 3 star rating typical fast food joint and nothing to tell your family about. Came here to try out their burgers. Not really a fan of frozen patties but I understand that it's easier for consistency with chain restaurants. The burger was very messy and the mushrooms obviously came out of a can. I did not complain about the burger. Just tried to do my best to eat it since I was hungry. On another note, the root beer was good! You can't go wrong with stopping in for a refreshing A&W root beer float. I also ordered the cheese curds, which is deep fried cheesy goodness! As a life long Rhode Islander I've been here an uncountable amount of times over 40 years, but it's been a few years since my last visit. First and most, it's 2018, why are we not taking Credit/Debit cards at this point. Payspot and Square charges 2% per transaction with no minimum. You'll make that 2% up just by the extra customers who know you can take cards instead of driving past the place because no one has cash anymore. But instead of that, they have a high fee ATM machine onsite for you to use that we all know they get a kickback for. That being said, their prices are way above what would be considered "reasonable" for a "Fast Food" place. The quality of the food has dropped a lot as well. Their "Hot Wieners" use to be really good, now they are more aligned with the Conley Island Dogs all the other locations sell. They still do car service, but they no longer have the window trays and give you everything in a bag. Root beer use to come in a frosted mug, now a wax paper cup. Staff seem'd a bit stressed, but it was also a "Cruise Night" and a little busy. I think 30 bucks for two hot wieners, two burgers, two fries and two drinks is a bit much. I could have went to Onleyville and paid less. It's too bad because at the rate they are going, if they don't step it up, they aren't going to last much longer, especially with a Sonic down the road. read more

I was really excited to go here for the first time. I guess it was my high expectations that made me so dissappinted. I had a double cheeseburger (they call it the "Papa" burger) and it didn't taste bad.... it just literally had no flavor. None. All I could taste was the sauce that they use and the toppings. Ok, let me the first person to say OMG, this place has gone down the tubes. Look I hate to go negative on places, but I gotta be honest. This place is really poorly run. Don't waist your time like we did. They burned the onions rings which in my opinion are overpriced. I really don't care it took forever to get two hot dogs which were a five out of ten. My wife and I were up the street at Stillwater Antiques and decided to drive to A&W for lunch. I got the #7 and she got the cheeseburger combo. I got chili cheese fries which turned out to be pretty good. The way they were packaged seemed a little unusual, but no problem. Ate them with a fork. The weiners (dogs) were okay and my wife liked the cheeseburger. The root beer was tasty and hardy, not like what you get at the supermarket. Service was pretty quick and the woman behind the counter was friendly. I wouldn't give this A&W 5 stars but I'd give them a strong 3.5. I love this place based on the good memories i have of it as a child, but as an adult the food isn't all that great. The root beer is a true delight most of the time. Occasionally it is somewhat flat. I have a friend who swears by the clams here, but the price to portion ratio is a little skewed. I have been going to A&W for a couple years on Tuesday nite for the Classic CAR cruise. The first time I went the food was by far the worst I have ever got any where. I would still get the root bear float because that was really good. Well after last night I will no longer attend any cruises at A&W. I was running a little late so I told my friend to save me a spot beside him. The B***h that runs the place gave my friend a bad time about saving me a spot. The place only had about twelve cars so there was really no harm. There is a lot of other places to go on Tuesday for a cruise . The Bitch must of failed the course that you get more bees with honey not vinegar. I will be telling all my friends not to go there also. read more

This was my first time at a drive in restaurant and I was very pleased with the experience. I bought a groupon and decided to give this restaurant a try, I did not know that it was a drive in until we got there. I brought three other people with me as we had to use the groupon in one sitting. Prices were okay, sames as BK, MCD, and other fastfood places, I ordered two wieners and although they were tasty I did find the portions a bit small. The others ordered burgers and they were decent in size. Overall service was spectacular. I will definitely comeback to eat here when im in the area. read more
