I drove all the way to Rhode Island since this is the nearest A&W and I wanted their pumpkin pie shake. It's a good shake. Good pumpkin, not too much spice. They have outdoor seating and actually offer waitress service at the outdoor seating. But since we had our dogs - we had to sit at the outdoor tables that were NOT under cover. The burgers were typical fast food. Nothing special. Next time I'll order at the window and pick up my own food to save myself the tip.

Started off the RIFoodFights WienerFest this Month at A&W, because not much is open on the holiday. We were also trying Chepatchet Deli, who did not indicate they were closed on their FB page but they were... Let's just say that A&W probably is not going to win our vote this year. And probably not yours either. The young ladies that work there are very nice though.very good service. Everything came out super fast. Probably because it was sitting there. The wieners were tasteless and bland, and actually more like cold wieners than hot wieners. The onion rings followed suit by being tasteless, a little crunchy though. The vanilla milkshake was basically vanilla milk. No evidence of ice cream or any thickening agent whatsoever being added to it. Overall, very disappointing. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular but I expected average at least.

Service is quick and the girls are always so nice/friendly. This is a cash only spot so to avoid ATM fees make sure you grab cash before coming here. Outside seating only so watch for weather ! It was a little chilly when we came but still enjoyable. A bit over priced BUT you get what you pay for.. they make up for it in quality and quantity (large portions, everything is cooked to order, fresh and delicious!)

So I never tried A&W and I was craving a burger so I stopped by. First off they are cash only - sometimes this is good because you think it will be a little cheaper - wrong assumption. Next they promote their onion rings- bad decision- 5$ and they are flimsy and greasy and in pieces! The mushroom cheeseburger was greasy and soggy! And to be honest there was no flavor. The two came to 16$ and change and wasn't the best. Wendy's definitely beats this place. But the service was nice and she had a great smile. But overall thanks for the one visit.

I stopped here today because I haven't seen an A&W in 30 years!! So classic, tray on the window, waitress comes to the car. Our waitress was Alyssa an absolute doll and she was the best part of the experience. The food is ok but it's a little over priced. Solid 4 stars!

It's a fun spot if you are feeling nostalgic but with that in mind I don't think the recipes or menu has changed in the past 100 years. My last visit wasn't so pleasant as I felt the employee was trying to rush me through my order and just wasn't listening to my order but pretty happy with the root beer floats! Pro tip: Get chili cheese fries. Add then on top of your burger. You can thank me later.

An classic old style A & W !!!! Turn on your lights as your car pulls in and a server comes to the driver's window for car service. Our server was very polite patient, and professional. Want an old style very cold mug with frost on the glass? They have them for dine it, and for purchase. They also have homemade onion rings. There are other less common sides including clams and corn dog bites. For those who want something other than a car dinning experience, there are picnic benches in a covered area. These are close to the bathrooms. The parking lot has more than ample parking. We loved our classic root beer floats, homemade onion rings, hot dogs and corn dog bites. We will be back ! That says a lot as we drive a good distance from Massachusetts to Rhode Island to this pleasure. So for some classic old time fun and food try the Smithfield A & W !

Tried the burger combo which is their deal for $6 which is a steal! Burger was surprisingly decent, only thing is they made it wrong based off my customization... Got free fries thru the app which seemed like bottom of the fryer scraps that were small broken up pieces (but they were crispy at least). The onion rings were surprisingly good quality but they put my sugared dessert bites into the same bag which made the onion rings taste like cinnamon. Also didn't receive any of the condiments I requested. What I liked is the pricing on their app and deals. Also how you can order for drive up makes it very convenient.

At the end of 16 minutes, still no response. That's 20 minutes of waiting with nobody taking my order. I pulled out while two employees in blue Sonic tee shirts standing next to the door stared mutely at my car pulling away, talking rather than taking my order after a 20 minute wait. I imagine that little red button blinks to this very day, still unanswered. Go to where they have adequate and competent staffing. This Sonic is a train wreck, and I cannot see it staying in business much longer.

We didn't come to Baba's out of curiosity. We came out of respect. Word was they'd been having a…read morehard time lately. Quieter nights. Regular customers not being able to come through as often. That doesn't sit right when it's a place like this. So we brought a few friends and made the trip to Smith Hill. One of them had never had a hot wiener in their life, which feels almost criminal around here. But also kind of perfect. Two all the way, fries, and a drink. There's no reason to complicate it. It is an aptly named "special." The wieners have just enough snap when you bite, but they give in easily as you chew. Great texture. Full flavor. The meat sauce is exactly what it's supposed to be. Savory. Seasoned. Unmistakably a Rhode Island original. Mustard across the top, just enough to cut through. Onions finely chopped and stacked high. Celery salt finishes it off. All of it in a soft, steamed bun that holds its own with flavor and experience. The fries were perfect. Exactly what you hope for at a place like this. Crisp. Golden. Salted perfectly. I didn't touch the shaker. Didn't need to. They get it exactly right on the first try. And yes, they've got coffee milk... on tap. That's not a bonus. That's an expectation when you're running the OG New York System spot. If you don't have coffee milk with your wieners are you really having the true experience? The guys working the counter were young, friendly, and patient. They smile. They explain things. They broke down what "all the way" meant. Just demonstrating pride in what they serve and appreciative of the patronage. And just as we were finishing up, one of the owners came out. She'd heard we had a first timer at the table and wanted to know what they thought. It wasn't a show. She really wanted to make sure the food hit right. She talked to every member of our party and took a genuine interest in who we were and how we got there. Inside, the place is spotless. Coral counters and black walls with chrome stools. A color scheme that somehow works. Digital menus overhead. Even though it's so fresh and clean, you do realize at all times that you're eating at a piece of Rhode Island's history, even though it's also quite modern now. And if we don't show up for places like this, they disappear. You'll wake up one day and the Old Canteen is gone and in its place, you've got Wally's Wieners. Neon signs. Cartoon branding. Hot dogs with dumb names. TikTok decor. Eight dollar ketchup. Branding dressed up like culture. If we let the originals die, we're complicit in the knockoff version that takes its place. So don't just talk about supporting local. Do it. Go to Baba's. Order the special. Sit down. Eat slow. And remember what real tastes like.

Baba's Original New York System on Smith Street first opened back in 1927. Baba's Original New York System was on my list to visit and if they are closing soon, I wanted to go support them. I came on a Saturday afternoon around 1:15pm and there were just 2 tables occupied. We saw a sign at the register to order first and then take a seat. We ordered the 2 Weiner Special which is served with two hot weiner's, fries and drink. There is a fridge with cold drinks for you to choose. Just to name a few, there were Coca Cola, Sprite, Brisk. My husband wanted coffee milk and that was just $1 more. We got the weiners All the Way. Our food was bought to our table. The weiners had a wienie, mustard, meat sauce, onion, and celery salt in a steamed bun. It was very good. The fries were crispy outside and soft inside. Service was wonderful though they did forget the coffee milk for a little while. The menu also has a variety of burger choices, shakes, salads, gyros and sandwiches. Everything is made to order. A credit card surcharge of 3% is applied. By the time we were done with our meal, all the tables and some of the counter seats were taken. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try Baba's Original New York System.
