I don't write a lot of bad reviews but this is the worst contractor ever. I tried working with them as they were recommended by friends, it was the worst decision ever. They kept asking for more advanced payment for unfinished work. Threatened legal action. Their quality of work is poor with pavers not installed properly and not meeting code. They damaged other parts of the house and never paid or fixed them. They never finished the job, leaving our yard full of dirt and weeds. If you want to over pay for unfinished and poor quality work, (pray that they'll finish at the end when they already got most of your money), then this is your guy. read more

Nightmare to work with. After completing a few parts of the job but not actually finishing the components they started to demand advance payments then abandoned the job un-finished. For instance they claimed the front yard was 80% complete (agreement was to complete landscaping with plants, mulch). Picture below on a front yard that was claimed as 80% complete landscaping. We found out that many of the parts they claimed were complete were not. Including missing irrigation lines. Missing valves. Un-connected irrigation with orphan pipes left in the ground. The pavers were installed partially but they used the wrong sand filler (cheaper sand versus polysand). We found this out afterwards even though they agreed to use polysand. Additionally the quality was terrible where pavers were not braced well, some pavers were un-even causing dangerous bumps to trip on. Many of the things we confirmed to be included were ignored. When we asked for drawing or schematics to show us the pipe works their verbatim response was "You know exactly why we ran they drainage and sprinklers, why do you need it?" So we don't know the layout of the partial work that was done and they have refused to provide drawings Additionally, they damaged parts of our house (downspouts, pool coping) so we have been left with costly repairs from their damage. After many messages of trying to get them to finish the components and repair the damage they ignored for now 8 weeks and counting . We recommend to avoid this landscaper until they can improve quality, service, reduce damages, and truthfully represent work completed. read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of working with the AB Landscaping team. They came highly recommended by friends that I work with that ended up doing a backyard renovation a few years back (literally left my friends house saying I have to update my backyard). My wife and I had no idea what we wanted other then we had to have a covered structure in our backyard to hang out in. Cesar and Victor made the planning very straight forward and easy. The entire engagement from idea to executing the agreement took a total of about 2 weeks and the team was off starting the project a few weeks after. Cesar and Victor are not sales people, they genuinely want to help shape what your ideal changes are which was great. At the same time they have plenty of ideas and examples they can share to help shape the end goal. They put together a covered structures, added pavers, installed an amazing 4 tier waterfall and many more accents (plants around the structure along with drip system). Our family has been over the moon with the completed project and our backyard has turned into our place of zen. From start to finish i think the project was approx 5 weeks. I did not need to project manage the engagement at all- they tested and trouble shot everything they put together and in the rare case that I actually found some detail or thing that needed fixing they came through and solved for it immediately. We've used AB at 3 of our properties over the past 8 years and I can't say enough great things about them. Their crew was professional, easy to work with, and stood by their word and work! Anytime you do a large project the hidden costs are always a worry. Victor's team put in a paver patio and artificial grass in my backyard, as well as a light post and electrical wiring. This required a week and a half of work as my original backyard was all concrete and compostite. ughh! My wife and I were very pleased. I contacted three other people to come out to the house for a bid and none of them could offer the kind of artistic eye and integrated approach to getting the work done. I know it's a real pain to get multiple bids, but it's worth it! Unless you know what you're doing (and let's admit that we often think we do after watching HGTV) most of us could really benefit from working with someone like Victor. He made some very subtle, but really smart design recommendations that I nor any of the other contractors had considered. Moreover, when I told him I didn't like how the step was turning out, he agreed, and had his man come back and redo it the next day. In terms of cost, I thought his pricing was very reasonable - mostly in line with what the others had suggested. The benefit with going with Victor was that his team could do everything. So in terms of the timeline, things went very seemlessly and progressed in the most optimal fashion. When we were done, Victor came by to pick up the check and offered me some great advice (showing me pictures) of plants, etc that would look great in my yard and grow well given the terrain, sunlight, shade patterns etc. -- and gave me recommendations for places to go to get the best deals. My only complaint was that his team apparently accidentally messed up up one of the street signs, and one of the sprinklers outside my fence broke from the all the back and forth foot traffic loading and unloading their trucks. But all in all, I think they did an excellent job and would recommend them highly. read more

Victor did my house 7 years ago in Foster City, he recently finished my landscaping in Los Altos. It is absolutley amazing! My very narrow backyard is now a usable, contemporary fun backyard, we absolutely love it. Victor design, plan and executed his plan! He has a vision and he will let you know what will go well and what won't. Victor is honest, and here's the best part and an industry secret - he does not quote you by "ZIP CODE". His price is not the chepest and definitely not the most expensive. What you get from AB Landscaping is a honest quote with a quality work and finished design. He will ask you for your budget and will work towards that figure. For example, if you want a water feature, you can have a simple design or an elaborate design - all based on your budget. There is one thing you do have to bare with Victor and his team is that they are super busy. What that means is you may not get a call/email back right away, but don't get upset if you have to give them a call a couple of times. As you can see he is busy for a reason. I would highly recommend Victor and his crew for both creative design as well as professional execution of your landscaping project. He gave us a very well thought out plan, especially given that our yard is small (and was completely covered in concrete until his crew went to work). He was also very willing to work with us on our ideas, and was flexible when we made changes mid-job. We now have a beautiful fire pit area, artificial grass that looks real, and plants surrounding the yard - he even installed a drip system for irrigation, and some climbing plants to add privacy to our fence line. What started out as a great experience with Victor and his crew ended on a negative note entailing Francisco missing 2 appointments and just showing up out of the blue, no mention of the missed meetings. Their pricing is reasonable, but they are incredibly inept at returning phone calls. At first, our experience was very good. But when we decided to do half the job we originally planned on doing they basically stopped answering our phone calls. They did finally call back and get around to do our front yard. It looks decent, but many of our plants are dead and we have a TON of weeds growing. Victor assured me that I would not have a very big problem with weeds. We've been constantly weeding since they finished. We have a drip system installed, so none of our plants should be dead, and since it's summer, we shouldn't have many weeds since only the plants are being watered. We've called them three times about the dead plants and weeds, but they refuse to return our calls. There is nothing I hate more than an unresponsive company. At least answer the phone and tell us that there is nothing you can do. They really don't care about your concerns and questions. I wouldn't recommend them. Look elsewhere. **UPDATE** It's been almost a year since our yard was Landscaped and it looks worse than ever. Several plants are completely dead, many never grew. They planted 4 bushes on the left side and all of them are gone. We had to replant several flowers. It's just a mess. Please keep in mind that we have drip system installed so this is not an error on our part. It is clear that they didn't rototill our yard properly. When Victor first showed up we asked him for a plant list, so that we could properly care for the plants, but of course, we never received that list. So we're not sure what plants we have in our yard. Also, something I didn't mention before, Victor was very helpful when he first showed up to look at our yard, but then, once we booked him, we never spoke to him again. We tried calling several times after the first time we posted, to at least have some of our questions answered, but they continue to ignore us. This is a very lazy company, perhaps they only help customers who spend a lot of money. read more

Victor Arellano is an amazingly talented landscape contractor. He is both artistic and very capable at a multitude of hardscape and softscape projects. He has done extensive flagstone decking around our pool and patio, and grading to prevent water accumulation on our deck that works perfectly. He also has done irrigation, exterior stairs, and will be doing a driveway for us too. He specializes in waterfalls and beautiful arbors, and I've seen great terracing and retaining walls that his company has designed. He and his large crew are always polite and courteous, their pricing is usually quite a bit less than other larger companies, and they do their work on time. Victor and his team completed a project for us this past February 2012. We completely re-did the hardscape and landscape in our backyard; installed a built in BBQ; a beautiful waterfall; flagstone pavers and patio and had Victors team do the soft scape design and planting and sod installation with sprinklers. The backyard looks absolutely gorgeous and we are so thrilled. It is a dream come true for me. Victor was a pleasure to work with and so was his team. Victor pays close attention to detail. His workers had installed the flagstone paver walkway and one portion didn't look right. Victor recognized it immediately and had his guys re-do it. After installation was complete, say 4 months down the road, we had a problem with the waterfall, it was leaking. We let Victor know and within the week one of his guys was out there to fix it free of charge. In addition, some of the plants he planted in January/February haven't survived the summer heat. He offered to come replant the plants free of labor and we will just pay for the cost of the plants. Seems a fair compromise to me. Anyway, I would highly recommend Victor and his team to anyone.
