    Before

First off, I work for a large commercial construction company in the Bay Area. I have extensive experience working with all sorts of contractors and the last thing that I want to do when I get home from work is worry about any additional construction. Working with Andy, I had no worries when I came home. If there is one word that sums up my experience with Larson Landscaping it would be 'transparency.' Our backyard had not been touched in about 20 years and showed it (see pictures). Andy, worked with our initial design concepts which would match our modern style, and elaborated, tying the design aesthetic with our recently remodeled home. The outcome was better than expected and allowed us to enjoy our backyard as an extension of our home. Working in construction, there are 3 things that contractors are judged on: Budget, Schedule, and Quality. On each of these, Andy gets 5 starts. Budget: After discussing our project budget with Andy, he came up with a design which was on budget. Each of the different areas of scope (ie demolition, concrete, planting, irrigation, etc) were broken out into their individual costs and tracked. At the completion of each of the scope items, Andy would bill for the work. During the project, If I made any changes along the way, he would immediately send me a cost change for the work. If I decreased scope, he credited back the amount based upon the cost tracking, and likewise, when I increased scope. I NEVER had any questions regarding what my final project budget was tracking towards, which is why he gets 5 stars. Schedule: A problem that many contractors have is not being able to properly manage clients expectations and promising too much. They then under deliver and thus client satisfaction drops. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH ANDY. From the start of the project, he was honest and direct about how long the project was going to take. We really wanted our project to be completed prior to the arrival of our second child and while Andy said he would TRY to make it happen, he didn't blindly say "Yes." In the end, due to Andy's crews efficiency and our ability to make decision quickly, the project was completed prior to our new baby. For Andy's transparency regarding schedule and then his effort to bring the project completion in sooner, Larson Landscaping gets 5 stars. *Quick side note on schedule: If you are willing to make decisions quickly regarding selection of materials, you can greatly help your project schedule. Delays in decision making or going back and changing your mind cause a project to loose momentum, and thus add time to a project. Quality: Much of a projects quality comes from the construction of items that are not seen once the final planting has occurred. Items such as drainage, soil compaction/base rock/rebar placement for concrete and irrigation greatly impact the way a project looks during the subsequent years and not just on day 1. With my commercial construction background, it was easy to see that Andy builds his projects to a "commercial" standard. This means that he follows the best construction practices from start to finish. There is nothing worse than having concrete installed and then within a couple of months, you see large cracks forming. Due to the work the Andy does BEFORE he pours the concrete, our project looks brand new, even after 6 months. Again, 5 stars for Andy's building quality from start to finish. In closing, if you are looking for a contractor who plans accurately, has good communication, transparency regarding costs, and builds a quality project, Larson Landscape is the contractor for you.

Top 5 Reasons to Hire Larson Landscape 5. Experience Matters - Andy has been in the landscape business for 20+ years. He knows what works and what doesn't, and what will survive in this climate and what won't. Andy wants to work with serious clients who have serious projects. He's great at working within a budget, but won't cut corners or do something that he knows won't work long-term. 4. Excellent Listener - Andy listened to our requests for a drought-tolerant, deer resistant, visually appealing front yard. He created a fantastic design with native California plants, hardscape, irrigation and lighting. Andy listened to our feedback, implemented our suggestions, and was a true partner throughout this entire project. 3. Professional, Effective Communication - Andy consistently communicated with my husband and me about work timelines, upcoming deliveries, and payment schedules. Everything was well thought through and communicated ahead of time so there were not any surprises. 2. Experienced Craftsmen - Andy's team of workmen are experienced craftsmen in irrigation, lighting, and landscape implementation. The man on his team who built our wall and mailbox stand is a stone artisan and is extremely talented. All of Andy's workmen were extremely friendly, professional, and kept the job site clean throughout the entire project. 1. True Professional - Andy will transform your landscape design project into the Crown Jewel of your neighborhood. If you want to love what you see every time you come home, and have your neighbors constantly compliment your new front yard, then hire Andy. Trust me, he's a true professional and you won't be disappointed.

Andy Larson is a true landscape professional. We recently engaged Larson Landscape on a landscape design and construction job to completely renovate our front and back yard. We are thrilled with the results! We highly recommend Andy to anyone searching for a turnkey landscape service with a hands-on professional that is knowledgeable, hard working and capable of transforming your landscape on budget and on time. The Job In the back yard we created five (5) distinct zones that were seamlessly integrated: Outdoor kitchen with natural stone bar, porcelain tile countertops, stainless steel appliances, cedar arbor and 60" TV, natural stone fire pit, dining area, game area and dog run. New irrigation, gas, electrical, lighting and climate appropriate vegetation were also added. In the front yard, we replaced the driveway, boulevard, walkway and lawn as well as expanded the front porch. New irrigation, lighting and climate appropriate vegetation were also added. High Quality Materials and Craftsmanship Larson Landscape is a professional outfit that selects materials to meet the customer's expectations and works tirelessly to create a lasting end product. This was really apparent when we built the outdoor kitchen. They stretched the boundaries of stone and tile to deliver a beautiful, curved bar area. On Budget and On Time A diligent budgeting and planning process helped create mutual accountability to get the job done on budget and on time. As with any construction job, there were many decisions to make and Andy supported each one with sound reasoning to consider with tradeoffs between form, function and price. Each surprise we encountered was dealt with together from a reasonable perspective. Effective Communicator Andy's approach to planning combined with his expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction enabled a really productive dialog during the entire process. He is constantly on the job so he is familiar with the details of the project. As things came up, we dealt with them logically and professionally. He is not a yes man, which we really appreciated because it forced us to make the right choices. Skilled Crew The Larson Landscape crew is awesome! They share Andy's values and they work really, really hard. It's never easy to live through a construction job of this magnitude but his crew went above and beyond to respect our privacy, to efficiently manage the job site and to create beautiful work. Call Larson Landscape! This renovation greatly enhanced the curb appeal of our house and completely changed how we entertain family and friends. We regularly enjoy the backyard as a true extension of our home. We love it! If you want to hire a professional landscape construction company that will work tirelessly to transform your outdoor living space then call Andy Larson.

We ran into some difficulties at the start due to a last-minute cancellation by Matt and some unresponsiveness through email. When we voiced our concerns, Matt really stepped up to ensure our concerns were met. He immediately refunded us for the cost of the service, and he offered to meet with us at no cost. We ended up taking a 30 minute video chat with him, and Matt was super helpful in explaining various options. When we realized that his typical project scope was a bit bigger than what we wanted to spend, Matt was very gracious in connecting us with other contractors and designers. Despite the early hiccups, we got the sense that Matt is a genuine guy who is more interested in doing the right thing rather than making quick buck. We really appreciate his thoughtfulness, and we will definitely consider engaging with his services again in the future!

The virtual call was perfect for our project, we provided Matt with pictures of the backyard space as well as a video walkthrough. We contacted one of the contractors a few weeks later and finished the project with them in about 2 months. I highly recommend the Virtual Consultation for smaller projects with Matt. The pavers were installed partially but they used the wrong sand filler (cheaper sand versus polysand). We found this out afterwards even though they agreed to use polysand. Additionally the quality was terrible where pavers were not braced well, some pavers were un-even causing dangerous bumps to trip on. Many of the things we confirmed to be included were ignored.
