This review is overdue. We met Bob about a year ago when we first moved into our home. He dame out and assessed our security needs and gave us several recommendations. He changed our locks and gave us the extra keys at no charge. We've been planning to do a home security system and yesterday Josh finally made it happen. It's all pretty cool and easy to use. I used bob to change the locks in my new home. When I initially called I thought I only had a few locks and the price was going to work. When I realized I had about twice the amount of locks than I had originally counted I called to cancel. Bob understood the importance of getting the locks changed and was willing to work with me to make it happen. Bob showed up and was fast and everything worked. I also had several other contractors at the house that day and it did not phase him. He also loved our dogs! I would give Bob a call for other needs. Amazing guy! I had Bob come over to rekey a new home I bought. I was somewhat confused as to which locks to change since I am planning to use this place for AirBnB. Bob gave me honest input including considering using combination padlock where I could change the combination remotely. We were joking that he was talking himself out of a job. But he didn't give me any hassle and didn't charge any fee. In fact, walked around the whole house giving me feedback on what I could do with the different doors and locks. What a great guy! This company is a joke...honestly people. Look at my profile and my many reviews...most are positive and I really put effort and thought into these reviews. I called this company the week of October 7th to change the locks on a new house I just purchased. They were nice on the phone and set up an appointment for the same day! I was very happy and they even said I got unlimited keys since I found the on yelp! I had to leave work early to get there and met the nice guy to check the locks. He was very nice, but couldn't change the lock because he didn't have the tool he needed. He wasn't in his truck and even mentioned that today was his day off, but he came to do it since they were busy. He told me he or Bob, the owner would be back later that day around 6 to complete the job. He even said I could get a discount for the trouble. I thanked him and he left. Later that day, no one called or showed up. I called the number repeatedly and no one answered or even returned my call the following day to any of my numerous voice messages. The following week, I was able to finally get someone to answer from my work number and explained the situation to him. He apologized and gave me what was supposed to be "Bob's number." He made an appointment for that afternoon and said Bob would be out to do it and it would probably be free for all the trouble I went through. He also told me the guy who came to my house "the large bald guy as he said it" was fired the same day and he never turned in any work orders, which is why no one came to my house! Later that day, to my surprise, Bob didn't show up or answer any calls. No returned call from my voice messages either AND the person who answered "bob's number" said I had the wrong number. I had my wife call from her work and they answered with no problem. They set up an appointment for last Friday, October 19th at 5:00 PM. Again, got off work early to meet them there and they still DID NOT SHOW UP or CALL or ANSWER any Calls! To this day, they still will not answer my calls from my cell or work number. Customer service is the easiest thing for a business and the fact that this company does not value their customers say's a lot. I would love for Bob or someone to please contact me to try and explain this. I have read other reviews and saw the made up excuses they have given others with this same situation. With as many reviews Bob has, I can't reiterate that Bob is the locksmith guy to call in town. He works diligently to get the job done right and how you want it done. Bob definitely will try to help in the jobs that are more difficult, but won't hesitate to tell you up front if he can or cannot do something which is honestly the best thing a tradesperson can tell you. I don't know how many times I wished that other companies would just flat out say no they can't do a job rather than try, fail and still charge you. Got locked out of the bedroom on a Sunday afternoon and the keys were inside the bedroom. We tried to open it with credit cards etc. It obviously did not work. Called Bob and asked for a quote. Bob was able to schedule us the next day and explained that the only reason that he couldn't come right then was because he was already on a job. I don't normally write reviews regarding the businesses that I use, but in this case I will make an exception because this guy, Bob, of A Better Cheaper Locksmith, deserves to be known about- versus the shady practices that goes with other locksmith companies, in the online search for a locksmith. I was on the phone for sometime, as I searched for a locksmith, and I experienced it all. The other companies will 'quote' you a price to make them look legit, but when they come to your place, they will tell you a much higher price, besides the 'service' fee just for coming out. I understand the expenses of a business, but I can sense that they mark up the prices quite a bit. The other companies only care about getting the money in, whereas you can tell that Bob's intentions are just to get your life back on track after you got locked out and at a price that is probably half of what the other guys charge. When I called him, he was at my home within 30 minutes. He was professional, courteous, and extremely knowlegeable in his business. Wow ok, I have never been so impressed with a company before. I had to have my locks changed due to theft a few months ago, through a different company. I forgot to give my dog sitter the new key, so when she came over to take care of the animals, I got a call saying her key didn't work. I really didn't want to cancel a three day trip and get back in the car as soon as we had arrived, so I looked up lock-smiths who were still open at 6pm and found these guys. I called and explained my crazy lady situation and asked if they could help. They had some understandable hesitations but they did the job, got her a copy of the key, and didn't charge me for having to pick through a security door. I was not disappointed. fee: flat rate, no hidden charges, very competitive price professional service: took great care with our doors, no scratches, locksmith service performed as promised customer service: Bob was about half hour late to our set time because he ran late from the previous appointment which was understandable. He called to let me know he was going to be late and apologized for it which I appreciated. After he finished I asked what he would charge for additional keys besides the 2 included in the service He offered to give me 2 more keys free of charge to make up for him being late which was a pleasant surprise. On his way out he noticed my garage opener and offered to help me reprogram it free of charge. Then he gave me some home security tips which I really appreciated. Now I can see why he was late because he goes above and beyond his contractual duties to help out his clients. First time using a locksmith. We only needed 3 deadbolts rekeyed for our new home. Our first appointment was missed and we called several other locksmiths that night expecting to go with someone else however we learned there price was half that of the competition and decided to give there another try. We called the next day and felt they recovered very well for missing the appointment. They took $10 off there already "way lower than anyone else" quote and offered to give us as many keys as we needed at no additional charge to make things right. I really liked that I was able to text them the address and our contact information. The service went smooth and was very quick. I had a friend who took care of it for me this one time but he still charge me because I know it's business. I finally gave Bob a try and he totally took me by surprise. I lost my mail key and was informed that I need a locksmith to replace the keys. I gave this company a call and the guy on the phone was very friendly and informed me that it would cost me $50 for everything. I had my mailbox lock change and replaced with 2 set of new keys by Robert today. Robert was courteous and friendly. It took him such a short time to change the lock, which I was very surprised. We recently moved and needed to change the locks on our doors. I turned to Yelp to find a decently priced locksmith and after a few calls, Bob/A Better Cheaper Locksmith was by far the best deal. I called Bob in early December and he was able to to come out to the house that same day. He was a bit late due to traffic (I think almost an hour), but apologized profusely and didn't charge us for his service. He changed the locks on 3 of our doors and provided great advice on getting additional locks for more security. Bob advised us to buy locks at Home Depot which he said he would install for us another day. We got the locks and called him to set up a time for him to come-- and still haven't been able to get him over. Bob did leave my husband a message after we called him a few times, stating that his father had passed away and he would need some time before coming out. We were very understanding about this and held off on finding a new locksmith, as we appreciated Bob's work and wanted to keep working with him. However, it is now February and still no word from Bob. We still have the locks he advised us to buy and have not gone with another locksmith. Few things that matter: 1. Cost. Cheapest, I've used several now that I've locked myself out a few times. Don't search around for price quotes, just use then. 2. Time. I called at 9.30 pm. He was here by 10 pm at night when no one else would come this late. Lifesaver. 3. Quality. Everyone else I've used before just unlocked the apt and let me in. This is the only person to check and made sure that my id matches my address. Which it does not, so he asked for mail as proof. Only person that did that, everyone did checked my id, but no one realized or cared that my address didn't match. 4. Appearance. I'm not expecting anyone to come in a full on tux or anything, but he showed up well dressed. One guy that came before showed me crack for days and smelled of b.o., we all know it, crack kills. Don't do crack, call this guy! 5. Customer Service. Super duper nice guy, done. I hope I never lock myself out again, but if I ever do, I got this guy on speed dial. read more

I came across Bob on Yelp because I was in a bind over the weekend and had to have someone come out as soon as possible. I started with the company who re-keyed my house originally and the guy I spoke with was going to charge close to $200 to re-key two locks. So i went to Yelp, found Bob, and long story short I had 7 locks re-keyed 3 1/2 hours later for $60! I was absolutely floored. He was great from start to finish, from how quick he responded, to the care taken as worked through my house, and of course the cost.
