P & L looked over my car for about an hour and discovered the other company had damaged my oil pan drain plug. They replaced the drain plug and charged me $5.07. Yes, that is Five Dollars and Seven cents. (That includes tax.) There was also the time I bought bad gas and my car kept sputtering. They installed fuel injector cleaner (that time it cost me close to $9.) They have saved me a number of times. Like the time my car would not start when I was in Schaumburg. I refused to have anyone in Schaumburg look at my car, so I had it towed all the way to P & L. (It was just the battery, but the battery was so dead, my car would not even take a jump). P & L only fixes what is necessary, so I usually leave pleasantly surprised as to the cost of the repair. They provide a quote before making any major repairs and they always give the parts back. Except that one time my belt shredded so bad, it looked like string. I did not get the belt back. One thing for sure, they are honest!! If you decide to have them work on your car, call ahead and make an appointment and be prepared to leave the car there. They are a small operation. Sure if you have an emergency (and I have had a few), they will do their best to get you out the same day. I have also waited in their lobby a few times when they were changing the oil. They said no one can properly change your car's oil in a few minutes. An oil change is the time mechanics are suppose to give your car a quick check to make sure everything looks okay. I won't trust my car to anyone else.

Gas stations tend to find a string of things and you never escape them or their low standards of servicemanship. Gus & his family's service station is the stellar exception. He has saved me thousands of dollars through the years all the while keeping our vehicles running in top form. If something is beyond his scope of service - such as requires special tools specific to your vehicle that only a dealer has - he'll tell you. He'll also tell you about common problems, fixes or things you can ignore from the things he's encountered with the vehicle you own. Good luck getting that type of information from a dealer's shop or one of the many gas stations that can't keep a mechanic longer than 3 months. This approach allows you to make choices about how best to handle your vehicle's maintenance - fix, defer, go to the dealer, ignore, sell. As an example of his commitment to satisfied customers - the one time - out of many, many times - I questioned if something 'was completely fixed' because I heard an unusual noise after picking up the vehicle - he pulled a vehicle out of his bay, took my vehicle right back in and reinspected it on the spot - together we found that it was just a bit of rust on a brake drum which was not the repair he'd been asked to do - but he removed it anyway - without charge. Thereafter, the car ran like a top. He is not cheap, you don't want cheap when it comes to something you ride in at express way speeds, but his rates are extremely good and he is fair. His work is thorough, well done and reliable. If he does some work, there will, as it should be, be a charge. However, if it is something that takes just a few minutes, he'll often give you a pass. Unlike dealers that charge you an appointment fee and then increments of hours. Over the years I have come to trust Gus and his family through my experiences with them. If I moved but still remained in the area - I would continue to bring Gus my business. When people ask me "where do I bring my car"? I give them just one person to call, Gus and his family. After test driving the car, we realized it had some serious mechanical issues. We were still very interested in the car and had talked to the owner of the dealership about fixing the mechanical issues and then we would purchase the car the next day. The next morning we kept trying to get ahold of the owner, but we were only able to get a mechanic on the phone, who said he was only instructed to fix one of the problems we had spoken about with the owner the day before. After a few more hours of not getting a phone call back from anyone, we decided to stop in. The owner was in the office and tried to make excuses for why he had not returned our calls. When we asked if the issues with the car had been addressed he tried to convince us there were no issues and that the car was in perfect condition. My husband, a mechanic himself, knew there was something wrong with the car. The owner obviously thought he could sucker us into buying the car and not fix whatever problem there was. When my husband tried to shake his hand and say thanks anyways (because we might have come back in the future to look at other cars) , the owner refused to shake his hand and told him to " just get the hell out". We were shocked that he was speaking like that, and we started out the door. As we were walking out he yelled after us, trying to provoke my husband, saying "you can't even pay for this car yourself you f@#&king mooch, you have to borrow money from someone else." Which is completely untrue. We wanted to finance the car as an opportunity to build our credit, even though we could have paid for it outright. Needless to say, after that rough exchange of words, we will never be stepping foot on that lot again, not recommending them to anyone. Beware working with this dealer, as they are rude and extremely unprofessional.

Ed Dunne is a well polished shyster. But he hides this perfectly during the sales process. The brakes were bad all the way around! All 4 brakes! The mechanic said when he inspected it that they were metal on metal when we purchased it. So he sold us a car with unsafe, terrible brakes. Metal on metal, no pad left on any of the brakes. Cost of 4 new rotors and a brake job: 800.00$ Ed Dunne, when confronted about this, claimed the brakes were "just fine" and called me and my fiancee liars. Ed Dunne sells unsafe cars to unsuspecting, trusting people. Please think about the type of person who would sell anyone a car with 4 bad brakes... Only the worst type of person would sell a car with 4 bad brakes to anyone. He couldn't care less if they get in an accident and become crippled or die. If he did, he wouldn't be selling a car with bad brakes. But he made an extra 800 bucks! See how well that works for Ed Dunne? The man, seriously, has no conscience. Long story short: If your even thinking about doing business with this man, Ed Dunne, simply hit the gas and keep on driving till you find another dealership. He lies, cheats people and sells people unsafe vehicles, all to make MORE profit! He is the worst kind of salesman and the type of man who gives car sales people the bad reputation they often don't deserve. And he gets extremely rude when you call him on the carpet for the shoddy vehicles he peddles to unsuspecting people. He called me an as8hole and told me he wouldn't ever sell to me again. Ed Dunne also has a referral program where he gives 100 bucks to anyone who refers a friend, etc, to purchase a car. The person who referred us never even got her 100 bucks. We asked him if she got her money, and he lied to us and told us she did. We called her and asked her and she never got a dime of that referral money. So Ed Dunne is simply a liar. She also told us she purchased 3 cars there and after all the problems she had with the last vehicle, and not getting her referral money, said she wasn't ever going back to that man for anything. much less another car. He does not treat customers well at all. Total contempt would be the best way to describe how he views customers. So between me, her and my fiancee, there is 3 people who won't ever get cheated by Ed Dunne ever again! Ed Dunne is a bad person, with poor character and no morals. That is the only type of person that can sell a car with no brakes to unsuspecting shoppers. Good people couldn't do that because they have a conscience. I myself, couldn't do it. It wasn't a mistake on his part. He knew they were bad. But he made the decision to sell it in its unsafe condition and roll the dice with our lives. It's just how he does business. He is a bad person with no morals. Put his dealership in your rear view mirror now and drive to the next dealership. He will screw you too if you give him the opportunity. Don't! And lastly, Ed Dunne sold us a car with outstanding recalls on all of the airbags without informing us. I guess this is ok, if you want airbags that shoot shrapnel into your face in an accident. Not sure about you, but that's my least favorite thing to happen when the airbags go off. We took it to Macgrath Honda in Crystal Lake and had it fixed for free. Total time: 77 minutes. And that's 77 minutes of free work that Ed Dunne, if he was a good person with good morals, would surely have gotten done prior to selling the vehicle. Especially since it was free. But he couldn't care less whether his cars are road safe or not. All that matters to Ed Dunne is making a few extra hundred bucks on each sale. Safety be damned! He couldn't care less if you buy a car and die a half an hour later because it had no brakes or the airbags shoot shrapnel into your face on impact. He got paid and that's all that matters to this used car salesman. Buyer beware!
