5-Michael got the electrical work done with a fair price, even when he had to return to make a few minor corrections to his work. 4-Michael raised his voice to me and became very defensive when I pointed out a minor correction. Michael said, "Well, that's how it is!" He finally admitted the problem, and then found the solution. Before he left for the day, Michael apologized for his rudeness. 3-Michael was repeatedly distracted by other concurrent, electrical clients. 2-Michael repeatedly asked the city inspector to sign off on Michael's work BEFORE doing the corrections that the city inspector told Michael to do. Of course, the city inspector and I both said no to that blatant infraction. Please feel free to call the city inspector's office to confirm. 1-In addition, Michael repeatedly demanded that I pay the final balance of the bill BEFORE the city finalized Michael's electrical work permit on that same job. After trying many electricians with mixed results, I finally stumbled upon a great one! They installed track lighting in my studio and did an outstanding job. Michael James owns the company, and Rojelio did the work. Both were courteous, hard-working, and reliable. The rates were more than reasonable, and when there was a problem with the dimmer buzzing, they tried several things (at no charge to me) until they solved the problem. I found this company through a friend of mine who they do commercial work for. I almost fried myself in my apartment trying to wire a new ceiling fan. My landlord was too cheap to get it installed. So i called A. Custom. It was a small job, but they came on time and actually took care of it right then and there. Maybe took them an hour. I had a partial power outage recently. For those of us who's had this happen before, it is not fun. I was lucky that Michael was available to come check it out for me. The power miraculously came back on just before (simultaneous?) with Michael's arrival. He took no credit for bringing the power back on (see: honest) and proceeded to conduct a through examination of everything, trying his best to identify any potential problems or causes. I just want to give credit where credit is due. Michael is a genuine guy and people within his service area are lucky to be living there. Back in 2011, his company installed a main panel to my house at a very good price. It is all up to code and all done on the same day...still going strong with no problems. I should have given him a great review on here for that back then but I didn't and I feel bad for that now. Fast forward to today, I called upon his services again to install an additional outlet in my garage but unfortunately, I'm no longer within his service range. He offered advice as to calling other electricians and told me to call him back if I wanted to talk to him about other estimates to safeguard me from getting screwed. I took him up on his offer and we talked about other electricians' estimates for 15-20 minutes, knowing full well that he wasn't getting my business. Michael just wants to help and he is not out there to screw people out of money. From my experience with him, he is very honest and does great quality work. my bathroom light is on some kind of electrical menstrual cycle. sometimes the light turns on, sometimes it is off. i did what i could to troubleshoot before i called a custom electric, but to be honest with you, the best thing i could do was to check the light bulb and the fuse box. come on now! i ain't no electrician...nor did the idea of getting electrocuted seemed appealing to me. i spoke to michael over the phone and he offered a reasonable rate for the house call. he was able to show up the same day too which was great for me cuz shitting in the dark is not my cup of tea. anyways, it turned out it was a loose screw somewhere in the light fixture...ugh. a slightly unreasonable part of me was secretly hoping that it was a bigger problem than just a loose screw because MAN did i feel like an ass. anyways, it got "fixed." the bathroom light has been faithfully on ever since. read more

It was the first time I called and I really needed to get the lights in my bathroom fixed. They had shorted out a couple of days earlier and using the bathroom in the dark is no fun. Michael seems knowledgable and was patient with me while I decided what to do. He took time to explain the potential consequences of what I wanted to do. However, once he had my business he stopped answering and returning my phone calls in a timely manner. He was late all three times he came. For the estimate, he showed up almost 3 hours late and didn't call to say he would be late. He said he lost track of time so I let it go. Then, the day the work was going to get done, he showed up at 11:30 instead of 9:00. I had specifically had my housekeeper there early that day to let him in. He stayed until after 7, when the job was supposed to take 2-3 hours. He left a giant hole in my wall and chipped the paint in another place not even close to where he was working. I called him numerous times that day and he never answered or returned my call. He finally called me at 7:30 that evening, but I was not available to talk. The next day when I called him back (8:30am), it took him until 5:00 to return my call. At that time, he told me he hadn't been able to explain what happened the day before because I didn't answer my phone...even though I had been trying to reach him all day. Finally we decided he would come back the next week to patch the hole and fix the paint for no charge. We decided on a day and I told him I would call him if plans changed. I told him somebody would only be home until 11:30 so he had to come in the morning. The morning of, I called him three times before he answered. He told me he was waiting for me to confirm our appointment...even though that is not what we had discussed and I had called him twice already that morning. He finally showed up at 11:40, after he was already supposed to be finished. Luckily, I was able to have somebody at the house. It then took him several hours to finish this simple clean up job that should have been done the week before. Bottom line: he is unreliable and unprofessional. I would not use him again. read more

I wanted to have some new recessed lights installed in my condo and some new plugs and phone jacks put in. I've used Michael from A Custom Electric a couple of times. He is very professional, arrives on time, and performs the work we need quickly and properly. The first time I used him, he repaired some lights in my Garage. He also showed me how to use the timer on the building and did not charge for the time he spent showing me how to use the timer. I expected there to be a markup on the price for a replacement bulb and ballasts, but I later checked and found that the price he charged was cheaper than Home Depot. On the second occasion that I used Michael, he repaired a broken light in my bathroom and grounded a few outlets. His work product was great same as the last time.
