I really want to support small businesses like this who do a good job. The service is friendly and intimate, and I appreciate the tips and advice on how to take better care of my shoes. I am pleased with the treatment given to my shoes and how they looked after. My problem is with the hours the store keeps: I brought the shoes during advertised opening hours, only to fined the store closed. There was no sign indicating of a lunch break, a "will be back by..." Or what to do in this case. Disappointed, I decided to come back at another time. This happened twice when I tried to pick the shoes up. I really don't have time to come by several times. I need a place that would be reliable, therefore will not take my shoes back here. Sorry. In this case, I own one truly nice pair of modestly high, comfortable, stylish black leather pumps for office wear, and I was worried my flat-footed, hard walking had finally done them in - heels were busted up so the metal scraped the floor, making them unbearable to walk in, and there were scratches all over. But I found these Yelp reviews and figured I'd give it a shot. For a fraction of the original price of the shoes, they look - no exaggeration - SO MUCH BETTER than they did when I purchased them. I get the same pair of boots resoled every winter and wear the hell out of them, and Divine Shine is the best value for your money for that kind of thing. I have been to a few other other places in DC where I got shoddy work that didn't last halfway through season, this costs more but the difference in craftsmanship is obvious. Took a pair of high-end shoes for multiple repairs. When I picked up my shoes, the leather was damaged and the color tampered with. In addition, the heels were replaced with the wrong colored heels. To make matters worse, one of the shoe pair only needed a heel change, but yet the leather was tampered with/damaged. The owner said the innocent shoe was changed to blend it with the repaired shoe-- SMDH! I asked him to fix the issues and he said he could. However, he could not and made matters worse. Short is, they ruined my shoes and somehow tried to blame me for the horrible results. NEVER AGAIN! I DO NOT recommend this place!!! read more

After moving to Washington, DC last year from Georgia, finding a great shoe repair at a reasonable price had been difficult until I was referred to Divine Shine. I work in Georgetown, and oftentimes walk in my heels (not such a good idea). Several pairs were nicked and the heels were worn down to the nail. Most shoes were restored to their original condition or near perfect condition, even the one pair that had severe leather nicks. They stretched the leather and sealed it very nicely--barely noticeable. I am very happy with their level of service and the many different types of services offered. I have leather handbags that need cleaning, and I plan to bring those to get serviced. I highly recommend Divine Shine, and am very happy to have a shoe repair in my neighborhood. read more

Came here for a small sew job on my monk straps. While explaining my needs I was talked into a polish. I was told they would look brand new and for only $13 (for the polish). As part of the exchange, I was asked to bring in the second shoe "to use as a model." I came back a week later to pick them up and they were ruined. The sewing was fine but the polish completely changed the look of the shoe to the point it was unrecognizable. Obviously upset, I asked them to redo it and sent them images of the original. I told them to take their time because most important to me was that the shoe looked like it originally did. Another week and a half later I received a call that they were ready. I go in to pick them up and they are only marginally better. Even worse, the clerk told me the shiner spent "hours" on them and obligated me to tip him. $50 later I have a shoe I don't want. I would have asked them to keep trying but I have no faith that they will ever be the same. The shoes were only $120 but now it'll be an effective $170. read more

The customer service is lacking, and unfortunately the shoe repair didn't make up for it. When I dropped off the boots the repairman wasn't in, so I was told I'd receive a call later that day about price and timeline for pick-up- I didn't. I gave them the benefit of the doubt but didn't end up receiving a call, so I called back a few days later and was told that my boots would be done at the end of the week and they'd let me know when to come pick them up, received no call at the end of the week, called back mid-week the following week and was told "your boots are done, I don't know why you didn't receive a call"- yeah me neither... When I picked up my boots, again the repairman wasn't in and I paid what the receipt said I owed. About an hour later I got a call from the repairman (for the first time!!) to say that I didn't pay the correct amount because they forgot to charge me for the shine job, which I couldn't even tell they had done except for a dark splotch on my boot that had never been there before. So all in all I was pretty disappointed with the communication and I won't be going back, as I'm sure there are other shoe repairs that aren't as difficult to deal with. read more

Taking your chances! Divine Shine fixed up two heels in good manner but destroyed a third and refused to take responsibility for it. I dropped off beige heels for heel replacement and got them back with a large blue sharpie mark on the toe and a hole in the heel padding on the other. The two business partners of the establishment made me return five times because one cannot make a decision without the other. They then told me that I had marked them prior to dropping them off. There is no guarantee that your shoes will come back to you in good condition. Will not be going back. read more

I've had A Divine Shine clean up worn leather, replace soles, heals, and generally put a number of badly messed up shoes back together. I brought in a pair of shoes last week and was happy with my shine. I found out that I was charged twice (different amounts, different merchants using his business name). I called Stanley and told him and he asked that I come in. So I came to the store showing my double charge; he then showed me the receipts he had that day which showed me being charge once.. He called his merchant to sort it out and it looks like they're may be something funny going on which he will figure out for himself with his bank. Highly recommended - excellent work and great customer service. I wanted to get two pairs of shoes fixed - in record time as I was traveling the same week: - A pair of leather boots I had stopped to wear as the heels were very worn down (to the wood of the heels, that has gotten pretty damaged) - A pair of leather low boots that needed some stitching. I wore this pair virtually everyday, so the leather had turned grey from the wear and scratches, the heels were used, and I had gotten to the point where I was considering getting rid of them altogether and buying a new pair. The work done on both shoes was excellent. The damage on the heels of the boots was fixed and made unnoticeable. In addition to the stitching and heel repair, the low boots got a complimentary shoe shine that I did not request and looked and felt brand new. (I should also add that the heels for each pair were fixed using sole patterns similar to the original sole, which speaks for the level of attention to detail put in the repair.) As far as customer service is concerned, the team is very friendly, takes the time to discuss how to best repair/fix the shoes and seems to be very attentive to customer feedback. In addition, I was not charged a rush fee while both pairs were taken care of in record time - as a customer gesture. All in all , great place! read more

Great local shop that does an excellent job at a reasonable price. Took in a Mansur Gavriel bucket bag that my dog had scratched up very badly, Stanley managed my expectations (with that kind of stiff smooth leather the scratches weren't going to disappear completely) but really transformed the bag so it is now hardly noticeable. Took 2 weeks which was fine with me and I appreciated the honest estimate up front. Will definitely be back again with any other shoe and bag repairs that need fixing. read more
