I hired a licensed HVAC guy to install a new pump, thermostat and AC compressor; it never worked. We needed a new HVAC. Big company came out and advised we would need new ducts also. We were told $30k and that was after about $8k in discounts. Neighbor told us about Mark and A Five Star. First, Mark answered his phone while on vacation and scheduled an appointment. He gave us an estimate for the HVAC and said to wait on the ducts for after it was installed as they had to run a test before inspection. Absolutely the best service I have ever received by a company repairing or replacing appliances, water heater, or HVAC unit, and I lived in the Sacramento area for 34 years. We have a duplex in NW Sacramento, and on Friday the HVAC unit on the roof finally crashed as the compressor was shot. I called A Five Star Company and spoke with Mark on Monday afternoon. He had just finished a project but said he would come to the house and check it out. That he did. He confirmed the unit was shot, We discussed options and settled on putting up a new 2 ton unit. For the work that needed to be done, taking the old unit off the roof and installing a new HVAC, and the cost of the new American Standard unit, Mark provided me with an estimate which I thought was most reasonable. On Tuesday, he and his associate removed the broken unit and got the new unit on the roof. By Wednesday the job was completed. My husband tries to support the smaller companies when he can, so he contacted Five Star and the owner, Mark answered his call. We had one of our three units not working properly so we were looking to get on the schedule for a service/repair. Mark told my husband he would come out the same day...shocking! (he arrived what most would consider "after hours" at 6:00 p.m. on a Friday) Not only did he have ALL parts needed for a unit manufactured in the 80's, but he explained all tests he was performing and showed us all readings on voltage meters as he did it. When all was said and done, he was successful at repairing our 30+ year old unit without jumping into some spiel about replacing it.
