He also removed 5 wasps nests from our condenser unit on the roof! Was told I needed to replace my 20 year old HVAC by multiple companies (approx $15-20k) and that it couldn't be repaired. I called Sierra Aire to see if they wanted to provide a bid for the work and David said he not does do new installs - only repairs and offered to come check it out. Was able to come out within a day, diagnosed the problem and repaired it quickly the same day and charged half the cost other folks had quoted me for the refrigerant. I'm nervous to let someone look at my A/C unit with all these videos of scam fixes and greed. But the ratings and philosophy of this company to overcome that stigma really paid off. David was super nice, professional, and gave me peace of mind that my 2018ish unit that came with the house is in excellent condition. He also clarified when it's best to replace filters and the pros and cons of using higher density filters where it's a trade off between airflow and filtration power. So that was also nice to understand how to keep my AC in its best shape because you can't mess around in Sacramento come summer. Heater wouldn't stay on more than 2 minutes, tried to google issues it might be. Did the first 2 that I could do without any knowledge. Called made appt for the next morning David showed up 30 minutes prior to our time frame. Diagnosed in about 30 minutes after cleaning a few items. Blower motor failure, he went back to office to verify they had the part. Called me in about 90 minutes they had it and another appt set for the next day. An hour later we had heat. Patrick and David only do repairs, not new installations. They recognize the quality of my HVAC system, and encourage me to continue maintaining it until a major system fails (like a compressor, for example). That gives me comfort that I can keep my high-quality, high-performing, but older system running for its maximum lifespan, rather than incurring tremendous expense to install one of the newer systems that's far less reliable and durable. I have a 22 year old HVAC system that seems to run fine so I am interested in keeping it going. David came out and did an assessment and came up with the suggestion to install a Hard Startup Kit on the AC system (cost around $300+). I never heard of this component (none of the various HVAC maint people ever brought up the idea). Basically it reduces the wear and tear on the AC compressor. When the compressor fails on an older unit one has to replace the whole HVAC (big bucks!!). That seems like a good way to extend the longevity of the HVAC. Now is not the time to buy a new HVAC given the new refrigerants being in short supply and the potential increase in costs from tariff taxes on foreign made units and parts. Sierra Aire's focus on maintenance (not sale of new systems) gives them a different perspective on service. When one considers that a new HVAC costs $15K+ and are sold with the expectation that they last only 15 years, it makes sense to keep them going as long as possible. It is a pretty expensive part of home ownership when one looks at it that way. read more

My A/C went out on a Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, I called one of the big local HVAC repair companies and was advised I would receive a call back in one business day. Where other companies wanted to sell us a whole new AC unit, these guys were willing to actually fix the problem so we can get a few more years out of our system. We had two (unrelated) problems this year and both David and Patrick were very knowledgeable and really looked to bring solutions. In fact, our last one was just a loose connection and they took care of it in just a few minutes (after I was ready to buy a $700 motor from them).
