    Lacie
    Ryan S.

I saw this Yelp page a long time ago when searching for a routine vet, and loved the thought of not needing to take my nuggets into a stressful, scary vet's office in the end. I kept the name of the business in the back of my mind, dreading the day when I would need to use them. Well, the time finally came, and I knew I wanted my little Lacie to pass peacefully on her favorite spot: the heat pad on the couch. Dr. Nicole called us about 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment and let us know her arrival time. When she showed up, she was the nicest, most gentle person ever. She immediately put us at ease with her calm demeanor and asked us all about Lacie and our life with her. When we were ready, the process was gentle, peaceful, and pain-free. If she had to leave us, I take solace in the fact that it was in her spot while I held her. Afterwards, we immediately received a foam paw print and were offered some hair and whisker clippings. Lacie was wrapped cozily in a basket and her brother got a chance to say goodbye before she was transported away to a water cremation. We poked a hole in the paw print and turned it into a Christmas ornament that we hung on our tree. A few days later, we received a beautiful eulogy Dr. Nicole wrote, and we were blown away by the amount of detail she picked up during her short time with us. We then received a card the next week with a personal note from her. I truly appreciate how she genuinely cares about her job, clients, and the animals. It somehow made an impossible decision a little more manageable. I will definitely use this service again if/when the need arises, and highly recommend anyone to consider saying goodbye to their pet in their favorite place.

The admin staff Tiffany, Michaela & Emmy (?) were patient and helpful as I arranged for compassionate end of life for our beloved George. Dr. Libby McVey was the kindest, most compassionate vet. Terribly hard to lose George but being at home, with us was better. Truly gentle and peaceful. Highly recommend them for any of their services including care and hospice.

Obviously you never want to have to do this, but if you find yourself needing this service, this is the place to call. They were able to get us scheduled for same day and the entire process was handled with the upmost kindness and sensitivity.

From my first phone call through the gentle and peaceful end, A Gentle Goodbye was the absolute best. I couldn't have asked for more compassion or kindness for my family or for our beloved Cissy. Saying goodbye to her was the hardest thing I've ever done, and A Gentle Goodbye made it much less difficult. I can't recommend them enough.

So grateful to have Dr. Molly and everyone who has supported us during this difficult time. Dr. Molly helped Ollie go peacefully in our arms at home. She explained everything and what to expect, so we weren't startled. She also went at our pace, so we were more prepared. We were never going to be 100% prepared to let Ollie go, but she was patient and compassionate. Even in Ollie's dire situation, she greeted Dr. Molly with a toy in her mouth. That image itself really helped us. It showed us that Dr. Molly was someone we could trust Ollie's last moments with. Ollie's ashes came in a beautiful box with a tag with her name engraved on it. Those extra details really helped us feel that Ollie was well taken cared of. Thank you so much for your compassion and kindness during this time.

i called on recommendation of friend, i knew her time was near, she was 15 year old lab, my closest friend and she had a good run at 15, she was collapsing often and i knew it was time but still my heart was broken when Dr Sam came out in the afternoon my family had gathered in our living room and Molly was laying on her fav rug, Dr Sam was empathetic and had a very soft , gentle voice. i could hardly talk and mostly cried, but she was patient and explained the process to us my kids, grand kid, and other dog were all gathered around, caressing my dear Molly as she drifted off now a week later i am finally able to write this review thank you so much Dr Sam, you were heaven sent that day i am still in sorrow but grateful that our good bye to Molly was in our home, where she was comfortable and felt secure

The good: Very clean, friendly staff, and the refreshment stand was a nice touch. We tried Spindrift water there for the first time and ended up liking it. That was nice, I guess. Context for my visits: The first time we went, we brought our kitten in to receive a PCR panel and be treated for a bacterial infection. The second time we went, brought her in to receive a rabies vaccine and a check-up for a bacterial infection. This was our second time going. The medium: * We had no reason to believe that we would be seeing a different vet and vet tech that day, but we were not seen by the same people. I have no clue about what their scheduling norms are, so I am not holding this against them too hard. However! (and this is where it gets bad) it had been important for us to see the same people because we were looking for clarity on a $135 charge for a "Cook County Rabies Observation Consultation" from our last visit. Because they are legally required to perform these, a $135 price is outrageous on its own, but, like all good stories do, it gets worse! The rabies "consultation" was a 3-minute interaction at the end of a visit that had originally been about treating a bacterial infection wherein I was the person who explained Cook County's policy about rabies to my partner. All we did was sign a piece of paper which was not explained to us and none of this cost went towards the mandatory 10-day follow-up visit we had to schedule. And, of course, the vet tech who checked us out that day did not provide us with a break-down of the price upon payment so we had no idea that we paid for this! The bad, continued (all of the following occurred on our second visit): * A vet tech kissed our sick kitten on the head multiple times and said "I know I'm breaking the rules". People would not be okay with a pediatrician kissing their babies, so WHY are you kissing my sick kitten??? * When we asked about the $135 charge for a "Cook County Rabies Observation Consultation" from our last visit, (this price was not explained to us upon payment) neither the vet tech nor the vet knew that this was a charge that was able to be applied to patients at all... * After seeing that we were confused and upset by a lack of clarity, the vet tech gave us an entire box of nourish churus, a wand toy, told us he wasn't allowed to do that, and then attempted to give us a "tour" of the cat vet? That made us super uncomfortable in a "hush-money" kind of way. * The medications we received were priced at 3x their market value. * The vet tech we saw told us that our cat was the "only good client" of the day (this was 10am btw?) and proceeded to bad-mouth pet parents for not vaccinating their pets or being annoying. In short, why Would we ever go back here? While BLVD Ravenswood is an aesthetically beautiful place that purports to provide "luxury" pet care (whatever that means), I have left my experiences there feeling nothing but pick-pocketed, attempted to be pay-off via cat toys (what an absurd thing to type), and cheated out of my time. And so continues the search to find a decent vet who views their clients as more than walking wallets...

For example, in order to receive a pet's renewed prescription (with no changes to the previous prescription) they require you to go pick up a piece of paper in person every single time. In the 21st century when have email/fax/etc this is incredibly inconvenient especially for clients like myself who drive over an hour into the city because we are loyal to the practice. I understand that the corporate ownership has their own pharmacy through which they obviously want clients to order, but my pet's medication cannot even be filled through them so this has become increasingly frustrating. The front office staff has changed over the years and they are much less friendly and empathetic than when Doctor Byron ran the practice. The Vet Techs have also changed. Many of the newer hires are often very terse. It's just sad to see how the overall feel of this office has changed significantly to become so cold and corporate. Doctor Jenny is honestly what keeps us from choosing different care for our pets. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, and a wonderful veterinarian all around. My first year here was meeting Natalie, who I really liked but my dog LOVED. She wasn't there this time around but Em was. Em is professional, detailed and informative in messages, so I know what to prepare for before and after vaccines and tests. For the past three years, I just assumed she was not particularly a dog person because I'd never seen her greet any of the dogs or even look in their direction, but she immediately came around to scoop up this white Lab puppy (paws so ginormous that it's sure to be a big dog). To my surprise, the other lady who often comes out to take the leashes and guide dogs into the exam room for shots immediately picked up the white puppy to weigh it and carried it into the exam room. This was surprising to me because the latter lady can sometimes seem a little cold and mechanical. In all fairness, she did smile at me when she saw me THIS time. (I don't know her name.) She seemed a little more relaxed, which eased my mind. My dog did pull away to avoid going in the door with her, and I started to rise but the vaccinations have to be done so I stayed in my seat (but staring at the door). A couple minutes later, my dog came barreling out, which I kinda chuckled about. According to that lady (I don't know her name), my dog was good. I looked down skeptically but still smiled at this black ball of energy. It was interesting to see the vet (Mark Primiano) not come out at all. The last two vets came out to tell me about the visit, give feedback on my dog's weight and a few other tips. I didn't even know who the vet was this time. (The only reason I know his name is because it's on the paperwork.) Then another dog (muscular and brown and gorgeous) came in on a choke chain and was barking almost the entire time, which made my own dog bark (who hadn't barked at three other dogs, including the puppy). The vet came out BOTH times to give feedback to the pet owners of the puppy and the barking dog, and still acted like I was invisible. For this reason, I could do without him. If he's going to come out to give feedback, do so with all the pet owners. Overall, though, I'd still give this a 4.5 out of 5 star visit because Em was helpful (per usual), Sophie (the other person at the front desk) was friendly to me and tried to win over my dog (who decided to be shy post-shots and hide behind my legs with her head poking through) twice. She did tippy toe toward the owner of the puppy to sniff her hands later on, and then zoomed right back under my legs. (Shy again.) I thought that was nice of Sophie (and the puppy owner, who I don't think works there but Em possibly knew beforehand) to do because it makes the Tree House visits that much easier. When my dog likes the people, it's a breeze to go inside. (She's almost dragging me down the street to go to the vet, which is NOT how my last two dogs acted.) So THANK YOU to Sophie for being so warm. I appreciate it. (And Natalie, hope to see you next time.)
