So thankful for this place! My dog, Bonnie, got into some mulch or sticks. She started vomiting Saturday evening (mostly wood fragments), the 3 more times Easter Sunday. She was lethargic and clearly needed help. I called Blue Perl because that is what my vet recommends. OMG the exam alone is $240! The person there recommended "a place in Skokie. by Old Orchard mall." I luckily found Scout Animal hospital. First off, the place is spotless and state of the art. The girl at the front desk, technician, and vet were all kind (they clearly really care) and knowledgeable. Bonnie was examined and they presented different treatment plans with detailed explanations. I am happy to report that their treatment was successful! I am back home with my girl, without feeling like I was financially poached by the animal hospital. read more

I highly recommend Scout Animal Hospital. After a bad experience with my previous vet, I called Scout because my dog was experiencing ongoing GI issues. They were able to see her immediately and quickly recognized that something was seriously wrong. They promptly transferred her to another hospital that could handle more specialized GI care. Sadly, after about three weeks of trying to diagnose and treat her condition, she stopped eating. When we had done everything possible, we brought her back to Scout to be put to sleep. As anyone who has been through this knows, it was an unimaginably painful experience. The staff and doctors at Scout were incredibly kind and compassionate throughout the process. While we miss our dog terribly, we are deeply grateful for the care and support they provided to both us and our beloved dog. read more

I discovered Scout this weekend when my cat Big had a situation that required urgent care that was not a full emergency. My regular vet could not see him until 4 pm and highly recommended going to Scout if they had something earlier. I could not be more happy with the result - and neither could Big. All Chicago pet owners should know that there now exists an option between regular vet care and full-on (and super pricey) emergency veterinary care. They worked with my regular vet, who sent my records over before I got to my appointment. Briana and Dr. Hill were friendly, knowledgeable, and reassuring - in fact, for anyone who arrives a little stressed out (and with an unhappy pup or cat) the entire environment is immediately calming. I did not learn the name of the kind woman at the front desk, but she was great too. I got checked in, sat in a very comfy room, Briana came in to take preliminary questions, Dr. Hill came in and did an exam & very soon I had her recommendations and an estimate. For many pet owners the cost of urgent/emergency vet care can be the most stressful thing about it. I found the initial estimate to be about what I expected, and was happily surprised when the final cost was a bit less, and none of the suggested treatments seemed unreasonable to me. So, an unexpected cost, but well worth it given the circumstances, professionalism, and quality of care provided. We took our 8 week old puppy to Scout on a Saturday at 5:30pm after he unexpectedly became very sick. They originally scheduled an appointment for us to be seen at 7pm, but they decided to treat our puppy immediately after seeing how sick he was. The care that Dr. Monick and the nurse (I can't remember her name but she was the BEST) showed toward our puppy made a terrible experience as good as it could have possibly been. They handled our puppy gently and with care. After learning that our puppy had Parvo, Dr. Monick reached out to an emergency vet hospital directly, confirmed that they had a bed available, and gave us exact instructions for what we needed to do next, and what the cost breakdown looked like. I can't recommend Scout enough and truly believe that the quick action of the Scout staff is the reason my puppy was able to recover from Parvo. read more

So they saw my sick babybat cat immediately. That's five stars! Even though I know it's because they just opened and they don't have that many patients yet, it was still very appreciated. The initial bill was my rent. I'm poor right now, and I think when they could see that, they were able to help me dissect the bill into Let's Definitely Do This, vs Let's See What The First Tests Say. That helped reduce my bill into 2010 rent. Also my kitten is alive and well after getting some fluids and medicine to make him feel better. He really just made himself sick cuz he's so emo and goth. Like, I'm going on hunger strike cuz you don't love me right. But then suddenly bam! Really on deaths door, cuz you're a cat! You have to eat. I only went here once and it was under terrible circumstances. Our cat had some kind of event at home two weeks ago -- probably a stroke. I called our regular vet and they couldn't see him that day, but recommended Scout. The doctors and staff there couldn't have been more compassionate and kind, even though their examination showed there probably wasn't much to be done for our boy. They went through the options for further testing, but gently let us know that it was unlikely to change the outcome. We decided to take him home and call for Lap of Love to come the next day. Scout sent him home with a toy and treats in a little bag. He died during the night before his euthanasia appointment the next day (we wanted to bring him home to die). Scout checked in the next day and upon hearing that he had died, they not only sent a lovely card, but also had a succulent (nontoxic!) plant delivered to us. Completely unexpected but so appreciated. By comparison, our own vet never expressed a word of condolence. read more

We are repeat clients of Scout's for many reasons. I recommend Scout Veterinary Care if you need help. Today, we visited because I realized I screwed up my dogs monthly medication. I was up all night worrying about it. I emailed Scout and they called in the morning and got us in right away to do bloodwork. They rewarded my dog with a nice treat and lots of pets. The staff is always SO friendly. While I was in the exam room waiting for the Doc, they texted me a price quote for the services, which I approved/gave consent to before they took my dog back. I appreciated a cost estimate upfront. Nothing worse than waiting to check out at the end of an appointment, wondering how much it'll cost/how much damage you did. Lastly, I like how this place is always clean and has nice decor. We were in "Clementine's" Exam Room this time!! (See pic). We love Scout!! read more

I was referred to Scout on a day I could not get in to see my regular vet. My 100lb Dogo Argentino had ripped his toe nail badly. It didn't merit an ER visit, but I didn't want to wait either. The staff handled him with warm professionalism, took care of him the same day, and even coached me to get one medication from the human pharmacy so it was cheaper (my first emergency with this pet. They kindly followed up a few days later to check on him, which happened to be a Sunday. I absolutely recommend this practice, and hope they keep running their office so mild emergency walk-ins can seek care for pets when primary care vets are booked. read more

Excellent ! My cat has been sick for a while , and I have done everything to keep her alive and comfortable. This past week, she begun declining rapidly and I called my regular vet to come and performe in home euthanazia. She was squeduled for tomorrow, but this morning she begun showing severe discomfort, and after a couple of hours I decided it was time to assist her in her passage. My dear elderly cat declined very quickly, I have an insane career, and I was able to get an appt at Scout very promptly. I was reading about what might be going on with my cat in his last days, so I was prepared for potentially putting him down. The vet said his prognosis was very poor and so I decided to put him down. The entire process was explained to me very well, was done in a compassionate manner, and given the situation, it was the best a pet and a pet owner can ask for. Scout even sent me a sweet fern from one of my favorite plant stores in my neighborhood with a kind note. I can't recommend this place more! Dr. Monick and Dr. Simpson are wonderful. My dog had been to his primary vet twice in 2 weeks, with no answers to his issues, when we ended up at scout with an emergency eye situation. Dr. Simpson was working that night and new almost immediately what was wrong with my pup. Tests confirmed Lymphoma. It has been devastating but everyone at Scout has been so good with my pup and the compassion they've shown for me was above and beyond. My ONLY complaint is that this isn't a regular primary vets office! Hours excellent. Fees very reasonable. read more

I was given an appt time for later that same day so I didn't have to wait in a waiting room. Very helpful for me as I would have been hard on me to wait a while. Parking was in a lot with their stamp, which turned out to be free. Lot is about a block from the entrance. Street parking looked difficult so I opted for the lot. I'm glad I did, as it was easy. I walked in and they put us in a private room right away which was great. The wait was reasonable, no lnger than 10 minutes before she was taken care of. Super with my dog. I felt very comfortable with them handling her :) Very nice & knowledgeable staff, trustworthy & compassionate. Also, very accommodating by offering both a lower vs a higher cost option to choose from, without judgement. I appreciated this very much. I am very happy with everything.
