Pretty chill place, nice bartenders and a popular night scene. Dance floor doesn't blow up until late (past 1130) during the week at least. Keep in mind the upstairs bar "macho bar" is a gay sex bar (leather bar). Playing gay porno, condoms in bowls on the counter, people exchanging bjs in the dark corners... The boys get angry when you ask too many questions and no girls are allowed upstairs so avoid this part of the establishment if anonymous public gay sex isn't your thing...drinks are average price for P-town, everyone in the downstairs bar was friendly and having a lot of fun. I've been going to Ptown since I was a kid and always have had a good time. Was there for my bachelorette party last night. The AC was recommended to us by several people that this is the best place to dance and get drinks. Nope, not even close to the door and Wonderwoman took one look at us and said we're not allowed to come in. She said there's not enough security to handle us. What does that even mean? I've been going to Provincetown for 3 years now both during the busy season and the off season. This place is always been fun. I've never gotten punched, shoved or yelled at, lol. I've gotten to know the staff a bit and they've been nice to me. That doesn't mean I haven't seen some stuff go down. Keep in mind the thousands upon thousands of tourist and people they see every single year and how many of those are drunk and acting stupid. I'd grow tired of it too sometimes. If they don't let you in they don't let you in, go somewhere else; there are other awesome places to go too. Heheheheheh. The A-house. OH the A-house. My recommendation? Start off in the dark, divey downstairs bar (gets busy after 10) and graduate to the dance floor (gets lively around midnight). A real mixture of friendly and completely bitchy staff, which always makes for a hilarious evening. Bottom line? Not much to say .... It's a gay bar. Cocktails are served in tiny 6 oz glasses $9 - 12 depending. All the gay bars/clubs use these tiny glasses and is all ice. Just be aware. Ptown is expensive that's it. Kind of creepy upstairs. read more

Great bar. Yes, it is a bit seedy, but that is the point. Was visiting P-town over Labor Day weekend and went to the Macho Bar with some friends. The bar is upstairs and fairly small. There are quite a few screens showing porn which is always fun/funny. The drinks were nice and strong and reasonably priced. The best part about Macho Bar? No cover. Call me cheap, but I refuse to pay a cover to listen to someone who plugs his iPod into a set of speakers. Plus, I do not dance. The Macho Bar was exactly what a gay bar should be: dark, seedy, and sexual. A mixed crowd, too, which always helps. Saw preppy guys, guys in t-shirts, shorts, jeans, and a few leather guys. If you want a low key bar where you can actually converse with guys, this is the place. read more

The music ranged from terrible to borderline okay. I was in the mood to dance, but the dancefloor was too crowded and filled with drunk/drugged out people. Having three separate bars was a good way to avoid any particularly long lines, and a $6 well drink is fine by me. A vodka redbull was $11 though, and while I've seen some places do this, I can't stand it. At least they gave me the whole can since my drink basically had a splash of it. Almost got into a fight with a fellow customer who drunkenly fell on me on the way in/accosted my physically, and later found me on the dance floor and was inappropriate again. I understood throwing a punch meant I would need to leave immediately, but didn't consider that a negative consequence because I wasn't enjoying myself too much. Not a big fan of the A-House. You walk in and it's the epitome of seedy gay bar, which some people like (and to each his own) but it's not my scene. The drinks are expensive, small, and taste bad and the crowd is a bit lacking. I do have to say that the night we went there was drag bingo and the bingo caller (is that what you call them) was awesome. If you want the gay watering hole this is where to go, otherwise wander to some of the other many homo bars in P-Town. read more

This location is discriminatory towards women. I went to this location, expecting to enjoy some drinks and dancing. Once I got in, one customer said to me, " I am driving men away and I should leave". When I notified the bouncer, he said "whatever, what can I do". We left the place extremely upset. Once we finally found The Atlantic House, we were determined to have a blast. We walked in to smoke machines and hot half-naked men dancing the night away to house music (fab!!!), tiny but strong cocktails in hand! We walked around, danced, bought drinks and made our way to the patio at the back, which is really big, and has two bars, and all the smokers. However, it was the prime people-watching spot, and boy oh boy oh boy, was it a sight to see. I think I spent more time laughing at some of the outfits and at some of the muscle-men who could barely walk because their thighs were too big, than checking people out. I've been hanging out in this wonderful dive for decades. Best Dance bar on the planet, but like P'town, highly unconventional in the best possible way. The DJ really knows how to make the boys dance to pop tunes, and if you treat the bartenders well, you'll get great drinks. But don't expect homogeneous mediocrity or political correctness from such a diverse crowd. It caters to the unusual, and a troupe of invading bachelorettes, come to ogle "the gays" is NOT welcomed. Incredibly rude staff. My boyfriend and I stood in line and when it was our turn the female bouncer told us that there were only gay guys in there, it was a $10 cover, and no refunds. We're in ptown obviously all the bars are filled with gay guys...I didn't get why she said that. I jokingly asked if she was telling us we shouldn't go in and she told me to ask my questions down the street, she wasn't going to let us in anyway. Very hurt and disappointed by the Macho Bar, we were in the downstairs part only. The upstairs was gated off as we noticed walking in. My husband and I chose to go to ptown for my 40th (we are hetero) birthday and started bar hopping. We chose to go there because in the past we had a lot of fun and found everyone there very accepting and welcoming. Not this time our first stop (after having a few shots with dinner) was the Macho Bar. We had no idea that woman are not welcomed or even allowed here. As they can't put a sign up "no women" or "gay men only", because that would be discrimination, we went in. Immediately after sitting down we were approached by a very rude male bartender. He asked us what we wanted to drink, shaking his head with a sour look on his face and mumbling under his breath. We didn't catch on, just a rude bartender. We thought he was just a grouchy old man. The bartender put our drinks down in front of us somewhat harsh. Then we noticed the couple of men next to us had turned their backs to us. My husband used the bathroom and said there was no women's room and maybe we weren't supposed to be there. I thought no, that can't be right!!! What bar anywhere can do that, it's illegal. So I just dismissed it and decided to ask about a club up the street. The rude bartender told us about it, briefly and pfffff (The sound he made) as he walked away. We quickly finished our drinks and started to leave. The bartender says "leaving so soon?" I replied "yes, it's my 40th birthday and we're bar hopping. " Had I been 100% sober at the time and had known woman weren't "allowed", I would have stayed there longer and asked what the problem was. Probably making a scene. I asked about it at the next bar and they told me its men only and they are known as the rudest bar in ptown. Women beware this bar hates us and hetero men too! Always have fun with my friends here, like the interior (although it does get too hot) and the outdoor area. Two major complaints that I've had for years: 1. All the bartenders are friendly except the one very bitter, borderline manic bartender that keeps bar at the small bar next to the bathrooms. Consistently RUDE every summer, even threw napkins at me when I asked him to repeat himself because I couldn't hear him over the music! He even thew my tip back at me once after he thought my tip of a dollar per drink wasn't enough! Why does this man keep getting hired back every year?! 2. David the DJ, time to retire. RUDE as well. What DJ refuses to take requests and plays the same play list night after night? Especially when there were only 6 people on the dancefloor, not counting me and my 4 friends in the off-season! I even offered to tip the man to play a favorite song for my friends and I! He was rude about it and all but gave me the finger! Again, why do the same tired guys keep getting asked back? We come to P-town to have a lot of fun and dump lots of CASH at these establishments, there is no need for rude service guys! If you're tired of serving the same drinks at the same bar and spinning at the same dance floor year after year, retire and let someone else do your job that you're lucky to have. read more
