I like this place but I don't think they should allow large dogs in the dining room. We were eating our entrees when they seated 3 people with 2 Golden Retrievers at the table next to us. Tucked on the bay at far end of the main drag is this heavenly haven - the setting alone evokes tranquility and relaxation as you drink and eat the tasty fare. We've been coming to Bay Cafe every summer for the past three years since the new ownership took over, and they've done an outstanding job. The renovations have completely transformed the property, giving it a fun, coastal beach vibe that's inviting and relaxing. Even more impressive are the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. We've tried all three, and every meal has been consistently excellent. You'll find all the breakfast and lunch favorites, but they're done right. The menu isn't filled with unnecessary, over-the-top ingredients just to appear upscale. Instead, they focus on fresh, quality ingredients, generous portions, and simple, delicious food that speaks for itself. We've never had a disappointing meal. The wait staff deserves special recognition. It's one of the best-trained teams we've experienced. Rather than each server only handling their own tables, they work together as a true team. If you need anything, any staff member is happy to help immediately instead of making you wait for a specific server. That level of teamwork is refreshing and adds tremendously to the overall dining experience. The pricing is also right where it should be--fair and reasonable, especially compared to some of the overpriced restaurants on Commercial Street. Bottom line: Bay Cafe delivers solid, consistently delicious food, generous portions, fair prices, outstanding service, and a fun beach atmosphere with great energy. Formerly Bayside Betty's, the three of us were all pleasantly surprised by our brunch today. Great view, right on the water. Service was great! We were even offered refills on our decaf and hot water for tea (a dying service, imho). Loaded potato skin appetizer was perfect! Two of us had eggs Benedict and enjoyed it. We had lunch at Bay Cafe on 5/17. It was our second visit, and the latest meal there was disappointing after we had enjoyed first visit some months ago. Service was slow even though there were empty tables. It took about 45 minutes for house salad and clam chowda to be brought to our table, and the chowda was watery - the worst I've ever had. I know it's the day after thanksgiving and the town is slow but I used to enjoy this diner, but it just so mediocre. I tried the spinach artichoke dip with pita and it was a soggy mush of wet spinach and no flavor and worse the pita was freshly microwaved and so spongy hard I couldn't pull it apart. (They took it off the bill and I appreciated that.) I then tried the chicken quesadillas and it was so bad as well... and that's hard to ruin. I'm hoping they can rework the kitchen. What a difference a year makes. Went to Bayside Betsey's last year, easily one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Went this morning for breakfast. In a word, lousy. Everything was flat, the 'home fries' were nothing more than boiled potatoes chopped up. Scrambled eggs were dry. The coffee was horrible. Wait staff was unable to answer basic questions about the menu, not their fault, I blame the manager for poor training. Staff should know the menu inside out before hitting the floor. Really loved it here. The Waterfront view is so beautiful. We could bring our tiny dog as well. I'm sure this is rare but we were able to walk right in and get a table outside without waiting. The young woman who helped us today was only 2 days on the job. Sorry I forget her name she was so friendly and kind. We had appetizers for lunch. The veg egg rolls are very good nice sauce. We also did the quesadilla with chicken was cooked very well. The onion rings are amazing! Crunchy goodness. Then the view completes the package of a great experience. Service was subpar, when I told him the coffee was not strong enough he replied "isn't that normal American coffee?" The french toast tasted more like toast than french toast. Coffee was bad, and the burger looked some McDonalds frozen patty. I will never go here again. The ambiance was fair at best, we did see the water from inside. Who doesn't love a good ol'fashioned American-style diner? Most of the time...but not here. Mind you, this place gave off more of a higher end vibe than a diner but the menu consisted mostly of America classics. There is a bar section and a dining room where you can look out onto the water. Weather permitting there is also a patio. My fiance and I stopped by for a quick bite to eat while exploring the area. We were seated on a hightop table with a view of the water. Very nice but...then we got to the food and drink. The fries were not even fries...more like potato slices that were undecided on being a breakfast hash or french fries. Four of us had brunch here at one of the few restaurants open in town. A pleasant dining room overlooking the water was quite full. We had a variety of dishes: two orders of French Toast, one with blueberries, a large Western Omelet and a Portuguese Benedict- I prefer the traditional one, and an order of bacon.
