I like this place but I don't think they should allow large dogs in the dining room. We were eating our entrees when they seated 3 people with 2 Golden Retrievers at the table next to us. We had lunch at Bay Cafe on 5/17. It was our second visit, and the latest meal there was disappointing after we had enjoyed first visit some months ago. Service was slow even though there were empty tables. It took about 45 minutes for house salad and clam chowda to be brought to our table, and the chowda was watery - the worst I've ever had. The outside deck overlooking the harbor was a plus on a rare sunny day this time of year. read more

Formerly Bayside Betty's, the three of us were all pleasantly surprised by our brunch today. Great view, right on the water. Service was great! We were even offered refills on our decaf and hot water for tea (a dying service, imho). Loaded potato skin appetizer was perfect! Two of us had eggs Benedict and enjoyed it. Was there at the end of the summer. Horrible food. Everything is frozen from Sysco foods. Nothing seemed fresh. When asked about the fish, even that was frozen. You are right on the water. I know it's the day after thanksgiving and the town is slow but I used to enjoy this diner, but it just so mediocre. I tried the spinach artichoke dip with pita and it was a soggy mush of wet spinach and no flavor and worse the pita was freshly microwaved and so spongy hard I couldn't pull it apart. (They took it off the bill and I appreciated that.) I then tried the chicken quesadillas and it was so bad as well... and that's hard to ruin. I'm hoping they can rework the kitchen. What a difference a year makes. Went to Bayside Betsey's last year, easily one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Went this morning for breakfast. In a word, lousy. Everything was flat, the 'home fries' were nothing more than boiled potatoes chopped up. Scrambled eggs were dry. The coffee was horrible. Wait staff was unable to answer basic questions about the menu, not their fault, I blame the manager for poor training. Staff should know the menu inside out before hitting the floor. Not sure what happened. Believe the place was sold in the past year, maybe new owners? Don't mess with success. Very disappointed, will not recommend, will not be back. read more

Service was subpar, when I told him the coffee was not strong enough he replied "isn't that normal American coffee?" The french toast tasted more like toast than french toast. Coffee was bad, and the burger looked some McDonalds frozen patty. I will never go here again. The ambiance was fair at best, we did see the water from inside. Really loved it here. The Waterfront view is so beautiful. We could bring our tiny dog as well. I'm sure this is rare but we were able to walk right in and get a table outside without waiting. Who doesn't love a good ol'fashioned American-style diner? Most of the time...but not here. Mind you, this place gave off more of a higher end vibe than a diner but the menu consisted mostly of America classics. There is a bar section and a dining room where you can look out onto the water. Weather permitting there is also a patio. My fiance and I stopped by for a quick bite to eat while exploring the area. We were seated on a hightop table with a view of the water. Very nice but...then we got to the food and drink. The fries were not even fries...more like potato slices that were undecided on being a breakfast hash or french fries. The bellini I purchased was anything but a bellini...It was a sad imitation of a mimosa at best. If I can think of any word below terrible that's what it would be. From the diet soda to the well done dry steak. Everything is frozen food like the potato au gratin or just no flavor like the broccoli. I wouldn't recommend getting food from here for your dog yes it's that bad!!!! When Betsy had this place there was always a wait. When you walk up to a restaurant in Provincetown at prime time and they can seat you right away you know there's a problem. It's probably not good. Now to the service. we sat down they took our order did not come back until the food was ready never came back to ask us if we wanted another drink or how the food was or anything until we were ready for the check. It's a shame I've been going to Provincetown my whole life several times a year, including staying a few summers. I have to say I believe this was so far the worst dinner I ever had in Provincetown. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!! It used to have very friendly staff. Very good food. Now it's stuff I can buy at Sam's Club back home. Which actually taste better. I knew Betsy and her husband Steve. So it hurts me to see this place the way it is now!!!! Just my opinion sell it to someone who cares about their business.!!!!! Definitely worth the stop their meal was excellent service was great and the outside dining area was so worth it with unbelievable views I would definitely say their hot lobster roll is in my top 3 and worth stopping in for. We got the pretzel sticks to start, then the Vegan Ravioli & beyond burger with vegan cheddar with tatie tots for dinner. The food, service & atmosphere were all very good. On my walk through town, the outside water view seating drew me in. It wasn't too crowded. Service was casual but friendly. Realize that this is a spot by the water on Commercial St. That will always drive prices up in this area. That said the omelette and iced coffee did hit the spot. This was a tough one to rate. The service was really friendly and nice. We sat outside on the deck with a beautiful water view. My bagel sandwich was very solid (subbed American cheese for provolone). BUT the pancakes...smuckers syrup. Really?? Also, the omelets were not incredible. Eggs were cooked very well. Full disclosure, I wanted to give a four but my mom wouldn't let me because of the pancakes. All in all it is a solid spot for a brunch with a beautiful view, just maybe not first option food-wise unless you are going for the bagel sandwich read more

Bayside Betsy's has always been a go-to for me for the many years. While never cheap, always a good alternative to "fine" dining. Food was always fresh, cooked on the spot and always good. When Betsy herself owned it, the restaurant ran like a well-oiled machine. While the restaurant looks the same, it's been going downhill with regard to service, selection and uphill in prices. The hummus platter(filled with feta, olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.) has now turned into a bowl of hummus w/ some packaged pita. The fresh potato chips are now off the menu. Lobster rolls are now $36.00. Service slow and fair. Owner's please get the hint and bring back this cool spot to what we all know and love. read more
