I think Freeman's is the best restaurant in town. And Christopher is hands-down the best server. The space is beautiful, the location can't be beat, and the food is incredible. It's a must-go every time we're in Provincetown. As for food - the parker house rolls are definitely the place to start. The butter is heaven. For mains- go for the filet. They nailed the vintage but clean aesthetic that is so ubiquitous in Provincetown. The dining room felt cozy but also elevated. Our waiter was so nice, funny, and engaged with the menu and recommendations. Salmon crudo was good but not the most captivating flavors I've had for crudo. Watermelon and cucumber salad was bright and fresh. The dill was a nice touch. Menu was diverse; there were plenty of options I would have liked to have tried. Drinks were well thought out and presented with a twist on some classics. This is an awesome spot for a couple or small intimate dinner. Not the place for a large, lively group. Wow. I've been a Ptown visitor for many years and Freeman's is a joyful new addition to my dining repertoire. The ambiance is elegant and upscale... located right in the middle of town. We finally made it out for a rare parents' night, and Freemans absolutely delivered and exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm, intimate, and effortlessly cool. The service was flawless, impeccable even -- not once did we wait or have an empty plate in front of us. Our server, Bruno, was incredibly accommodating and attentive without being overbearing. And Marcello, the host/manager, made us feel genuinely welcome and checked in to make sure we were having a great time which we absolutely were. We felt spoiled and totally taken care of. We kicked things off with the scallop crudo, which was delicate and fresh, and of course, the Parker House rolls -- absolutely had to. From there, we shared the cacio e pepe, which was simple but absolutely perfect, and the bacalao, which was especially meaningful for me, it's a dish my grandmother used to make, and this version brought back all the right memories. But the real showstopper? The duck. Do not miss it. Every bite felt intentional and elevated without being fussy. We're still talking about it. If you're looking for a special night out, especially if you don't get them often like us, Freemans is the spot. They made our night feel special from start to finish. I just love everything about this restaurant. From the ambience, to the service and most importantly the food. My SO started with the pea soup and I had oven roasted little necks. For our entrees my SO had the artic char and I had the monkfish special. Both apps and entrees were outstanding. I hadn't eaten monk fish for quite awhile and glad I had it, delicious. This is, hands down, my favorite dining experience whenever I'm in Provincetown. Freeman's is an adult-only establishment. You must be 21+ to dine here. They will not seat more than a party of four and only when everyone is present. While some people may find this policy snooty and pretentious, it actually allows for a more intimate, quiet, and overall pleasant dining experience. You won't find any signs advertising its location on Commercial Street. You must know the address in advance and check in at a small, unassuming window at the bottom of a staircase. When all are present, you are led up the stairs and inside a handsome, colonial-style dining room. Some lovely portrait paintings adorn the walls. The staff is super courteous (and good looking--whether you're into girls, boys, or both)! Great lychee martini. I always order the pappardelle with braised short rib ragout and it never disappoints. This time around there might have been a little too much of a mountain of cheese sprinkled on top for my personal taste, but it didn't deflect from the deliciousness that it is. The consistency of the dark chocolate cremeyx for dessert was a bit off. I was expecting more caramel and less of a peanut butter texture. Expect a lot of saltiness that outdoes the sweet. Overall, Freeman's is a superb dining experience and a great place to take a date or other special person or friends. It's pricey, but so very worth it in every way. read more

Atmosphere: Wonderful. We sat on the deck at sundown. Good little peeks of views but the seating was comfortable. They have a nice sturdy back pillow so you feel properly seated. It was a thoughtfully designed space considering what they were working with. Recommendation: Would love a smaller fan out there to get a bit of "artificial breeze". Inside adorable. Staff: Incredible and kind. They invested in uniforms, nice shirts, shoes and attire to elevate the experience. Some of the more service oriented staff (bus boy, etc) could use some gentle guidance in how to quickly reset between courses. They were very nice, polite and professional but the "vibe" upon entrance is a highly elevated experience so some of the smaller details could really take it there. Food: Great portions, prices are what they are now so good value. Drinks incredible. Whoever made the Rhubarb Spritz deserves an award -- I recommend drinking for a lighter finish to the meal. It's very good. It's a tiny bit clubby and needlessly secretive. There are a few missteps. But it's a nice new high point in Provincetown for something that's a little fresher. Decor: Kudos to taking the former Edwige space and making something lofty out of it. There's a loungy, nautical feel to the space, with a salute to Provincetown's history and forefathers. It's handsome in a hip sort of way that does its own thing from the more Brooklyn-neon-by-way-of-the-sea Strangers & Saints further east. I think the main difference is Freeman's takes its food a bit more seriously, and S&S is more about vibing. I should note that I had dinner with someone who runs a Michelin-starred restaurant in Manhattan, so at least half our party was in the industry, and noted things I would not have thought of. Food: really everything (except dessert, which I'll go into shortly) was delicious. I can't say Freeman's conforms to a specific cuisine, it seems to have a little of everything. I recommend the chilled pea soup, the foie gras, the cassoulet, virtually everything we tried was delicious. The cooking is on point. The tollhouse rolls are yummy, with pumpkin butter, but at this price point, they should be included in the meal, not something to be ordered separately. This veers into price gouging a bit - a problem all over P-town this summer, but I will note both The Red Inn and Napis include warm rolls and flavored butter with dinner (at no extra charge). Cocktails were good. They specialize in Negronis (there's a whole list) but mine, although good, were heavy on the Campari. There's a color test. If the cocktail looks like a maraschino cherry, there's a bit too much of it in there. Service was phenomenal: friendly, informed, and focused. I don't think the restaurant needs to make its menu such a secret, it's just honestly a bit silly. Put it on your website! That, along with a reservations-only policy (better than the opposite, though consider your setting), and a woman behind a closed gate who checks in diners who have formed a line, and then *allows you* entrance up the stairs, creates an unnecessary air of exclusivity and pretension when this restaurant is on Commercial Street, not Gansevoort Street. However, when you get upstairs, they are as friendly and as welcoming as can be! They have a dress code, as noted on their website, again a bit silly. 1. because this is a beach town with tourists 2. literally no one who could afford this restaurant cares about conforming to dress codes, everyone had flip-flops on anyway. I appreciate that they don't allow people under 21, although upper crusty families with college-age children wearing polos may take offense -- and this is a policy that would much more benefit Brooklyn that Provincetown. Restaurants loathe when diners want to "come in for a few drinks" and Freeman's is smart to disallow that. It's food only. The bar is pretty, but there are no seats at it. You want to drink at a bar? Go to Joon... We were in and out in less than an hour, 3 courses, several rounds of drinks, maybe 50 minutes and it was over. So, if you want a long romantic lingering meal on your vacation, I don't think Freeman's is the right choice for you. The dessert options contain "ice cream two ways." In restaurant parlance, that means you get a dish that comes with multiple variants of said dish. Chicken two ways, duck three ways, they've been doing this for years in NYC. But...uh...when you order this dish at Freeman's you're suddenly told you need to choose, lol. You don't get it two ways. You get it one way. Right guys? The tasteless gray scoops of vanilla ice cream were plopped over a thick pool of olive oil and covered with salt. None of the flavors, or the ingredients, integrated in any way. It was amateurish. And at $18 ($18!!!!) was by far the single worst dish we had during our time in Provincetown. Everything else, I highly recommend. I also highly recommend Freeman's makes its restaurant, and its menu, more accessible. People are coming to town for short stints, every dinner counts, and people need to plan ahead, especially if this is a reservation-only restaurant with a hefty Resy penalty for cancellations. To not understand any of this is, in a way, analogous to their $18 Ice Cream Two Ways - a confused idea both of who they are and who they're meant to serve. Freeman's is brand new, and according to their website, only open 3.5 hours a night? They're clearly still finding their footing, and while sometimes restaurants in these stages are disastrous, and have no business taking people's money, Freeman's shows enormous potential, and seems to have an avid following already. It deserves to be a star, and, all flaws aside, I hope it becomes one. read more

My husband and I had a fantastic dinner here. First off, Ivan was our server and he was just fabulous! We started off with excellent cocktails and two starters. I had dinner at Freeman's with two friends. The duck sliders were good but otherwise the experience was bad. The sever may have well been a plate runner - minimal input when asked for guidance on dishes and when two cocktails were returned for not being a fit had no suggestions for alternatives. I wouldn't post if it was just about cocktails but when two entrees from our table are inedible (and credited by the restaurant) that's a huge miss. On July 4th we booked a table for 3 at Freeman's. We were excited to go because we hadn't been to this restaurant before. On arrival we were told that we could not enter because one of us was wearing flip flops. We explained we had not seen the dress code when making the booking. The hostess said it was on Resy and she couldn't let us in. We were disappointed but decided to go somewhere else. We were then told they would be charging our credit card the reservation fee if we didn't dine there. It's $50 per person so that we be $150 for us. So basically they are refusing to let us enter but then charging us $150 for not entering. We left and found a place where we could buy shoes and returned. Dinner itself was good and our waiter was excellent. After returning home I went on Resy to look for the attire policy. It is there but it is not the first thing listed and is not highlighted. It's easy to miss. But what upset me the most was the wording of the policy. They have several articles of clothing they SUGGEST you not wear. It does include flip flops but also T-shirts and athletic wear. At dinner there were at least three guys wearing T-shirts. One was wearing a tank top. Why were these people allowed in and not made to go buy new shirts? If you're going to have a dress code it should be applied equally to everyone. They also need to change the wording from suggest to not allowed and strictly enforced. For these reasons I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

Everything was wonderful up to a point. Food excellent, atmosphere also excellent. My friend & I were enjoying our time together. We had an initial round of drinks followed by appetizers, entries, and dessert. At a point in the dinner we wanted to order a second round of drinks. The server never came over to ask if we wanted to do so. We tried getting her attention and finally after the meal & before dessert we were able to order the drinks. We were not able to finish the drinks when we were asked to vacate the table. We were a party of two and it was a four top that they put us on. The server said they needed the table & offered an adjacent two-top to us to finish our drinks. We were about to finish the drinks so didn't feel need to move to the two-top when a manager wearing a headset came to our table and essentially told us we needed to leave. We both felt this was such an outrageous breach of protocol particularly for a restaurant that prides itself on offering a more sophisticated, elevated level of cuisine and service in Provincetown. It was an unprofessional shameful way of handling the situation. read more

This place is outstanding! Very cozy and inviting atmosphere inside. Our server Bruno made the experience quite fun. The food was great and the cocktails were quality. I especially enjoyed the chilled pea soup - this time of year that is a welcome sight on a menu. And the halibut entree (pictured below) with a summer succotash beneath was as delicious and flavorful as it looks. Plus, to top it off, we had an amazing chocolate dessert with what I believe was a butterscotch creme layered beneath the top covering of chocolate. Really made us feel that it was important we enjoyed our dinner. We sat in the dining room. It is on the small side, They don't have a bar you can wait at if you are early for your reservation. Drinks were generous and good. Wine list is good and well priced. We started with two toasties with our drinks. One was a high quality ventresca tuna and the other was really good hummus. I had branzino which was delicious. My husband had half roasted chicken which he really liked. For dessert we split the chocolate cremieux with salted caramel.
