Poor Workmanship. Clear Coat sagging from AJ's Body Shop.
Matthew H.

Does AJ's Body Shop Warranty their Work? Monday July 14th 2014, I brought my 2009 BMW 328i to AJ's Body Shop located in Austin Texas to have repairs done to the rear bumper. The estimate for repair to the rear bumper total was $638.47. The estimated time to complete this project was 3 to 4 days. I was notified 5 days later that my car was finished. Saturday July 19th 2014, I came to AJ's Body Shop to pick up my car. Upon inspection I was immediately shocked to see the end result of the paint job. The following are complaints that I have with the finished project: The paint does not match. It is 2 or 3 shades lighter. The paint has obvious flaws e.g. "fisheyes" and dirt all through the paint. Orange Peel throughout paint Dry area (no clear seal) on front bumper. Paint drips on rear and front bumper. Clear coat sagging on front bumper. The owner of AJ's Body Shop was not present when I picked up my car. His technician explained that Vinnie Molina instructed him to tell me that if I complained to instruct me to bring the vehicle back next week. This shop is a low-end body shop. If you are looking for a quality job that is guaranteed, I suggest you go elsewhere. See pictures of paint drips and wrong color paint.

Great shop. Email (v6060@sbcglobal.net) is quicker than the phone. They're not afraid to tell you that you don't need certain work done. i.e. My AC went out. Two mechanic-garages advised I replace a broken AC line AND replace the Receiver Dryer: $550. One of the mechanics recommended I talk with AJ Body Shop because my radiator and other components were loose. Vinnie said the Receiver Dryer wouldn't need to be replaced since the AC line had only been broken for six days and didn't likely have moisture inside it. AJ Body Shop replaced the AC line and secured the radiator and other loose components for less than $350! I also asked if they would replace 1-2 motor mounts while the car was there. Vinnie said they could do it if required; but, for one-off mechanic work- a mechanic would be better choice. The fact that AJ Body Shop didn't just take my business just to make a few extra bucks (twice) makes me trust them very much! They completed the job in the time frame I was given too. -AC blows super cold now!

Wish I could leave less than a 1 star but then again I am writing this review in anger so let me rant Yelp.... Yes, full disclosure, this review is after about 2-3 years, but the problem it has caused is very much current. Purchased my car brand new, no flaws, no issues. Few months after I purchased my car, pf course luck would catch up and I was broad-sided. I had sent this place quite a but of business and figured I would put my insurance money where my mouth and walk the talk so I decided I would have them do the repairs. Because I had another vehicle I advised them that they could take their time, and they did, which was perfectly fine. However, I figured that taking your time meant just that, taking your time to ensure that everything was done right. Right? Wrong. When I got my car back a month or so later there were quite a bit of issues that I had to address with Vinnie where I knew that if there was any kind of quality control inspection done, would have been caught. Overspray, misaligned parts, missing screws, missing pieces, name it, it was an issue. So after many back and forths the car was released because I felt like I had exhausted my efforts. Now again, this review is about the present, but the backstory is just as relevant. I acknowledge I picked up my car with the flaws that I would have never imagined this shop would have allowed and swallowed it. Took my business and all future business with it. Fast forward to present day. Im at the car wash and the brushes rip the back bumper off. Yes, back bumper no longer on the car. Now yes, you could say that the car was must have been too strong right? Perhaps. I get it over to two different shops for estimates and both tell me the same thing. Aftermarket bumper held in place by wood screws. WOOD SCREWS!!!! WTF! So again, present day dilemma is that wood screws from a PROFESSIONAL BODY SHOP were used to hold my car together. Makes me wonder what I cant see. Is my front bumper going to come off next time I stop on 6th street and someone offers to wash my windshield? ...place cant be trusted...

Two words: UNPROFESSIONAL and DECEITFUL…read more I truly don't know where to begin. I despise writing a poor review for a locally-owned business, but after months of being led-on and ignored, I am writing this in hopes of saving someone else's precious time. My husband was in a car wreck in October 2025. The person who rear-ended him has terrible insurance, so we decided to file a claim through our insurance, Allstate. Capital City Collision provided us a quote that our insurance did not agree with. An Allstate negotiator went back and forth with the shop. Part of the issue was my husband's truck had after-market parts that were damaged. Our Allstate negotiator, Elizabeth, called us to confirm that she was able to get funds approved by her manager and they reached an agreement on pricing with the shop. A check for $2,207.66 was sent to the shop to start ordering parts. According to Allstate, the shop cashed the check on January 20th. It is now March 19th and the shop still has yet to reach out. I have tried calling the shop multiple times in the last two months. Each time I call, they answer and hang-up immediately. I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe they are busy. I tried calling the shop today, and again, same situation: answer, then hang up. I thought to myself, "hmm... maybe they really are ignoring our calls?" So I waited 15 minutes and called back with a blocked number. What do you know... Catherine decided to pick up and answer this time! She kept me on hold for 9 minutes before taking me off hold and hanging up on me immediately. I called back, and a man answered. He transferred me up to Catherine, who kept me on hold for 4 minutes this time and hung up immediately. While I was on hold the second time, I received a text message saying they wouldn't do business with us. They ignored my text, asking when they planned on returning the check they cashed for $2,207.66. My husband and I have been trying to get his truck fixed since October 2025. It is now March 2026. I understand that our insurance was being difficult to work with... we were annoyed by Allstate, too! That being said, Capital City Collision could have rejected our business months ago, instead of stringing us along. Rather than sending this text message 5 months ago when this all started, they chose to dodge our calls and waste our time. Unprofessional does not even begin to describe their behavior. They were avoidant, deceptive, thieving, and rude.

Even though I did not use them due to distance they were quick to get back to me and had a very…read morereasonable estimate. Great customer service.

This is a lengthy review, so buckle up (ha...ha)…read more I initially sought out Autocraft because I needed to get some rear-end damage repaired on my Tesla (i.e. trunk replacement). They were booked out pretty far, but long story short, they ended up being able to move up my appointment (drop off) date a bit earlier than initially anticipated, which was great. The downside of this was that I was spending some time in San Angelo, TX (which was a couple hours' drive from this location, so that was kind of a pain. However, I got scheduled, and dropped the car off with Autocraft, and they hooked me up with a shuttle over to the Enterprise to pick up my rental. Cool. Everything is going smoothly so far. A note about the drop-off: Christian was the one doing the intake for the car, and he marked all the areas that they intended to remove/replace with a black grease pencil (which I have photos of, and will be attached to this review). Moving on... Over the next few weeks, there were some dealings back and forth between myself, Autocraft, and my insurance company, which was mostly just trying to get everything settled between the estimate, accepting the estimate, and getting the monies where it needed to be. BREAK--- Goodness, it's been 3 years and I completely forgot that I never finished this review... Hopefully I can pick up where I left off, if not, I'll sum it up. The general overview is: Autocraft overcharged my insurance (not my business, I guess), then did generally kind of sloppy work (which took forever), then tried to trick me with incorrect tint (first of all, they actually didn't even re-tint my small back windows after replacing them, and didn't tell me even though they knew I would have to make a two hour drive down there - trying to pull a fast one, so I had to fuss about that and make them get those windows re-tinted, which resulted in further delays and a total waste of time by me even having to make the drive there and back for nothing. Then, then ended up charging my insurance the $1k deductible AND ALSO taking payment from me, so in essence, collecting an EXTRA $1k, until I happened to catch on and had to fuss about that issue to be corrected as well. Then they played around and acted like they didn't have a way to return the funds (after taking their time trying to "figure out" what the discrepancy was), to finally cut me a check. On top of all of this, when I FINALLY went to pick up the car when it was allegedly ACTUALLY ready this time, the tint was still not correct (I had ceramic UV tint, they just got the same tint rating, but the cheap regular tint), there were some chips on my back glass (they acted like they had no idea what this was from - of course blaming it on the fact that they were already there before they started the work), the truck had a bit of misalignment - although it worked fine, it was a little off (and still is to this day). THEN, the finale, to add insult on top of all of the rest of the ~4-6 weeks that this took, when I picked the car up, by the time I got there (remember, two hour drive), it was late in the evening, and they were closing... They managed to poke a hole in my driver's side seat (I know EXACTLY what this was from - Christian specifically, but probably more of their staff, walk around with grease pencils in their back pockets, tip UP), and when I pointed this out, Christian blamed it on my husband (who got in the car for 30 seconds to move it and was wearing SOFT sweatpants with NO pockets on the back or any type of grommet or anything else. So that turned into another argument, and they finally agreed to replace the seat (still issues with this to this day as well), which resulted in... you guessed it... ANOTHER WASTED TRIP. I finally got my car back and just took it and left it alone because I was SO TIRED of dealing with these people and their shenanigans, it was RIDICULOUS! DO. NOT. RECOMMEND!!!!! I cannot express this enough!!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR REPAIRS! If I could give ZERO stars, I WOULD!

Once again Caliber Collision did an incredible job. Not only is the work they do there unparalleled, but they have the kindest, most friendly staff who are helpful and knowledgeable. When I picked up my car I didn't even recognize it. It was cleaner and shinier than when I bought it. They detailed the inside as well. In addition the shop is immaculate. I will never take my car anywhere else and will recommend Caliber to everyone I know.

The only communication we had through them after dropping off the van was through email. They sent an email saying "(T)here was a little supplement after the disassembly of the vehicle nothing crazy, I will send an invoice once it's in reassembly stages." Later, the shop agreed to lowering the bill by $731.54 but said I need to pay in full to get my van back. After paying in full, they wanted us to sign a form saying we authorized the repairs. Since I did not authorize the repairs, I refused to sign the form. Since I would not sign the form, the shop refused to give me my van back until I called the Police and the Police made them give my van back. When the van was finally released to us, we could not drive it away. The van would not start because of a dead battery. The shop personnel said that they had to constantly jump start the van in order to move it around. Why would a repair shop knowingly release a vehicle with a dead battery? In addition, the backup camera on the van does not work after they replaced the back bumper with the camera. I don't trust taking my van back to them again to get the backup camera fixed. I have tried to reach out to Caliber Corporate office but I have not heard back from them and it has been 2 weeks.
