This is a lengthy review, so buckle up (ha...ha). I initially sought out Autocraft because I needed to get some rear-end damage repaired on my Tesla (i.e. trunk replacement). They were booked out pretty far, but long story short, they ended up being able to move up my appointment (drop off) date a bit earlier than initially anticipated, which was great. The downside of this was that I was spending some time in San Angelo, TX (which was a couple hours' drive from this location, so that was kind of a pain. However, I got scheduled, and dropped the car off with Autocraft, and they hooked me up with a shuttle over to the Enterprise to pick up my rental. Cool. Everything is going smoothly so far. A note about the drop-off: Christian was the one doing the intake for the car, and he marked all the areas that they intended to remove/replace with a black grease pencil (which I have photos of, and will be attached to this review). Moving on... Over the next few weeks, there were some dealings back and forth between myself, Autocraft, and my insurance company, which was mostly just trying to get everything settled between the estimate, accepting the estimate, and getting the monies where it needed to be. BREAK--- Goodness, it's been 3 years and I completely forgot that I never finished this review... Hopefully I can pick up where I left off, if not, I'll sum it up. The general overview is: Autocraft overcharged my insurance (not my business, I guess), then did generally kind of sloppy work (which took forever), then tried to trick me with incorrect tint (first of all, they actually didn't even re-tint my small back windows after replacing them, and didn't tell me even though they knew I would have to make a two hour drive down there - trying to pull a fast one, so I had to fuss about that and make them get those windows re-tinted, which resulted in further delays and a total waste of time by me even having to make the drive there and back for nothing. Then, then ended up charging my insurance the $1k deductible AND ALSO taking payment from me, so in essence, collecting an EXTRA $1k, until I happened to catch on and had to fuss about that issue to be corrected as well. Then they played around and acted like they didn't have a way to return the funds (after taking their time trying to "figure out" what the discrepancy was), to finally cut me a check. On top of all of this, when I FINALLY went to pick up the car when it was allegedly ACTUALLY ready this time, the tint was still not correct (I had ceramic UV tint, they just got the same tint rating, but the cheap regular tint), there were some chips on my back glass (they acted like they had no idea what this was from - of course blaming it on the fact that they were already there before they started the work), the truck had a bit of misalignment - although it worked fine, it was a little off (and still is to this day). THEN, the finale, to add insult on top of all of the rest of the ~4-6 weeks that this took, when I picked the car up, by the time I got there (remember, two hour drive), it was late in the evening, and they were closing... They managed to poke a hole in my driver's side seat (I know EXACTLY what this was from - Christian specifically, but probably more of their staff, walk around with grease pencils in their back pockets, tip UP), and when I pointed this out, Christian blamed it on my husband (who got in the car for 30 seconds to move it and was wearing SOFT sweatpants with NO pockets on the back or any type of grommet or anything else. So that turned into another argument, and they finally agreed to replace the seat (still issues with this to this day as well), which resulted in... you guessed it... ANOTHER WASTED TRIP. I finally got my car back and just took it and left it alone because I was SO TIRED of dealing with these people and their shenanigans, it was RIDICULOUS! DO. NOT. RECOMMEND!!!!! I cannot express this enough!!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR REPAIRS! If I could give ZERO stars, I WOULD! read more

Autocraft Bodywerks - Body Shops Near Me - Austin, Texas

In my experience, Autocraft Bodywerks is not equipped to work on Teslas. After Central Texas's May 2024 hailstorm, my Tesla Y needed major body repair. I went against my better judgment and brought it to Autocraft Bodywerks instead of the Tesla Collision Center; the former had a shorter wait time. The San Marcos shop had my car for *four months* before returning it to me with a slew of problems, mainly an audibly loud wind noise coming from the passenger side, and both right side doors and the trunk not closing without being slammed. The South Austin location then attempted to remedy their sister shop's work (they did manage to repair some of the interior damage that was caused by the San Marcos shop - thank you for that, Tammie), but they did not fix the wind noise or the doors, and in fact there are now two additional external problems - one being the frunk/hood not being properly aligned and the other involving the trunk. It appears that they do not know what they are doing. I don't know how else to summarize my experience. Unfortunately, my insurance paid them upfront and now I'm left with a vehicle that doesn't function properly. I do not recommend bringing your Tesla to them. I was going to wait until after I took my bmw back to get the repairs done correctly, but I am just done with this place and figured I should let everyone know the truth because the reviews I'm seeing are shocking with what my car looks like. To start, I called around in feb 2023 after I hit a deer asking about body shops being bmw certified. This place said they were, so I chose to have my car towed here since berli's was 6 weeks out before even being able to take my car. I'll summarize so I don't bore you - my car was here for 5 months. Now a month of that it was at bmw, so before someone replies that it was at bmw too, this place had my car for 4 MONTHS!!! zero communication, even after speaking with Richard the manager, no communication and when there was any it was because they were waiting for State Farm to approve while at bmw. If my car was at this place I did not hear from anyone. When my car was at bmw I went to look at it, I immediately called Daniel at autocraft and told him the spacing on my hood and doors was unacceptable. He assured me this would be taken care of. It wasn't. In fact when I picked it up I was told it was the best they could do. Fast forward to me picking it up- I'll just attach some pictures for everyone's reference. The best part is I called to speak to Richard again and asked to see the bmw certification and it was at this time when my insurance company already paid out over $30k that I was informed that they were in fact not bmw certified. Car was dirty inside as well and very dusty. Looked as though my seat was sitting in the body shop just chilling during the whole time. I still get to take it back and have them repair it which pains me to no end because I know it will not look any better. These people are extremely dishonest and do not care about getting your car back to "showroom" standards as they claim. Take your car anywhere but here. RESPONSE TO OWNER The fact that the first time I'm hearing from you is on Yelp says a lot. Your employees did in fact tell me on multiple occasions that you were BMW certified. I asked when I initially called, throughout the time my car was there, and after. I have multiple emails and texts stating that the communication was nonexistent. I can attach if you'd like? And you're correct I haven't brought my car back yet. It had to go back to BMW twice for issues that were not repaired and will be taken back to you once those are done which is exactly what I told Richard. The fact that I even have to bring it back is just not right considering you guys had it for the length of time you did. You seem to not be bothered by that which again says a lot. I will bring the deductible payment when my car is repaired correctly, however, you have $5k + from State Farm that doesn't belong to you and should have gone to bmw. Thanks read more

I needed some repairs done on my Porsche 911 turbo S. So I took it two AutoCraft Bodywerks of South Austin. I dealt with a gentleman named Christian and from the start, he did not return my calls or messages in a timely fashion, even though he said he would numerous times. He also lied to me about them being Porsche certified. It was truly a horrible experience, and I highly recommend you take your car some other place for repairs. I had a nasty door ding (deep dent and the paint was compromised) so on the manufacturers list of body shops I found Autocraft Bodywerks. I met Edgar and he handled everything. He introduced me to Charlie at the Dent Repair Shop. I dropped the car first with the Dent Repair Shop and they did an excellent job removing the dent which was on a crease line of the body. Committed to satisfaction! In November, my BMW X3 got swiped and I went to Autocraft to have the front bumper replaced. I've brought my X3 here previously and was happy with the result. As before, the staff was helpful and communicative. The detail-job was beautiful. A few days later, on a 1600-mile road trip, I realized that the front left wheel arc cover had been re-assembled without the rivets, bolts, or clips. The wheel arch cover managed to hang on to the body throughout the trip, despite wind-flappage and significant ice-buildup in the wheel-well. Without hesitation, Autocraft assured me that they would fix the problem as soon as I got back to Austin. When I was able to bring it back in, Autocraft gave me a ride, and finished the up the next day (and even re-detailed my car, which was by now disgusting). The manager assured me they had intensified their QC process, and this is the last time it would happen. I really appreciate Autocraft's commitment to make everything perfect. Throughout everything they were polite, helpful, and really went above & beyond! At this point, I probably wouldn't take my Bimmer anywhere else. read more

The best place to take your vehicle for body work or detailing. Weeks ago I called to get an estimate for some light damage and took my car there where it was looked at. They were very professional and made me feel confident they could make it look good again. He quickly wrote up an estimate and emailed me PDF copies. A few weeks later I dropped off the vehicle to let them work on it while we went on vacation. About two weeks later my vehicle was ready but could not pick it up, but they said will deliver it to my home. I wait in anticipation and then see my car arrive. I go outside and wow what a marvelous job on fixing the scratch and dent. I was impressed! The car was also clear coated and was shiny looking better when I rolled it off the dealer lot. The vehicle was also detailed and cleaned inside and out. All the personal belongings were placed in bags including some gift cards I forgot to remove. Very trustworthy business and employees! The hood was risen and saw a completely cleaned engine. This vehicle was cleaned so good I could take it to a car show and get presentation awards. I have previously taken my vehicles here in the past and always did an excellent job, and will continue to if a need bodywork or just want my vehicles detailed. Very kind people and an easy repair process, but quality isn't all there. When getting my car back they didn't screw in my headlight right which left a scratch on the new bumper they just repaired, and when i told them, they said they didn't touch my headlight during the service. Which is weird because it was a bumper repair. Anyway, i had Tesla confirm it wasn't done right and they called back saying let us take a look at it but never reached back out to make arrangements. after weeks with no reply's I simply just gave up. Wow. Hands down the best experience I've ever had with any shop since I've owned my VW Passat. I was in pretty dire need after some major damage from another shop and the insurance was proposing solutions for a sub-par quality work. I had researched all over, checked out multiple shops and knew I wanted them to do my work. Gavino made it a 5-star experience. He kindly explained the insurance process, handled everything, stayed late, and got my vehicle back in original condition. He made me feel like I was at a luxury car dealership. Turns out he used to be at Lexus, so made perfect sense. He also took care of my cloudy headlights (something I'd always wanted but never thought would be fixed aside from a good chunk of change). On top of that, they also detail every single car they work on. At least when I went last Dec. For free. They get inside your armrest console and trunk. My car looked like a million bucks. Lastly, they have a lifetime warranty on their work. Which was perfect since I decided to go with them even though they weren't on the insurance's list of "select service providers" (shops that the insurance guarantees). I went to Autocraft on Roxie ( north location ) and they rebuilt front end of my tesla model s in 10 days - I was happy with fast turnaround and car was detailed and they touch up couple of rock chips and I had them refinish my alloy wheels for extra $400 ( they were scratched) and it was worth it - car looks brand new - painter at Autocraft did a great job of matching front end since my car is 4 years old - I would only use this shop in Austin for any TESLA body work.... they want you to be happy........Great Work read more

THEY'RE THE BEST!! The Tesla was taken in to get the whole back replaced and the owner should be so proud of the team he has built here. The front bumper need painting and when they took it off they noticed prior damage so we had that worked on as well. Their repairs were flawless you literally cannot tell it has ever been worked on. They went the extra mile and detailed the car inside and out. From before drop off when parts were order to when when it was fixed and ready to be picked up Robbie was amazing! I helped an elderly relative's Tesla Model 3 get repaired here after another vehicle rammed into the Tesla. Robbie was my point of contact. Chris the owner should be very proud of the team he built up here. I never met the crew who put it back together, but I want to congratulate all of them: they made it as good as new, and I tried to find the signs of repair in the bright Central Texas sunlight. I could not tell where the original paint ended and the new paint picked up. There wasn't any rattling, the alignment of wheels, doors and trunk was impeccable. It wasn't just the mechanical aspects, either. All the sensors and cameras worked perfectly after I picked it up, and that is a tough part of these body repairs these days to get right judging by what owners are saying online. This is seriously impressive, considering the cost of the damage was about 40% of the value of the vehicle (the other party was found 100% at fault by both insurance companies, they were moving at a relatively high speed to cause this much damage to a standing-still car). Throughout the repair, from coordinating drop off to pick up, Robbie was unfailingly patient, courteous and prompt with call backs. I was kept in the loop at all times, and he worked with the insurance company to update them, saving me time chasing down status updates, which I really appreciated. Even when there was an unanticipated delay in the repairs, Robbie gave me the details without flinching, offered options, and worked out a new pickup schedule around my work timetable. So this isn't a review where everything went just-right; where you really can tell the quality of a business or a person is by their attitude and actions when something went wrong. The attention to detail was very gratifying to see. Immaculate shop floor, detailed vehicle when I picked it up, etc., it shone through every interaction with them. I'd go nowhere else in town for Tesla body work, period. And if their non-Tesla work is as good (I no reason to expect otherwise), then they're giving the top body shop in town a terrific run for my money; if I need body work in the future, I'm definitely letting Chris' crew have first crack at it. read more

We brought our Tesla in for repair about a year ago. (This review is long over due!) Long story short, we had to return the car 3 times. The black paint had swirls all over the hood. They happily took the car back and agreed the work was sub par, yet they were never able to get it right. We finally decided they had my car long enough and we couldn't return it one more time. The whole repair took 3 months and we were just done. (The parts held up most of the repair but the back and forth added weeks as well!) We recently were backed into and decided to take the Tesla to a shop up north due to our unsatisfactory experience with Autocraft. The work was done in 4 days and looks amazing! They even buffed out the swirls on the hood. I would suggest making the trek to the north shop if you can. read more

I'd probably steer clear and look elsewhere for your repair work. While *most* of the work they did was good, they: 1) provided me with an initial version of a "final" bill via email, but then gave me a second version of a "final" bill when they returned my car that had gone up in price; 2) didn't even complete the "full detail," and expected me to come back to the shop to finish what should've been done already by the time they returned the car; and 3) shattered my passenger side visor mirror while working on the car, and, of course, failed to mention that to me. Tl;dr: Sets a new standard for service for me, faster than expected and painless. I've never been the type of person to review a body shop on Yelp... until I encountered Autocraft. My Tesla Model 3 was rear-ended and the person's insurance offered me a small settlement to get the bumper painted. I was worried about the sensors being misaligned, so I decided to take it into a shop. Tesla recommended Autocraft and I'm glad they did! I brought the car in and Cristian assured me that everything would be covered by the other party's insurance and he would handle all of it... Society has trained me to distrust virtually every establishment related to cars and car repair so I was hesitant to believe it. In about 3 minutes, Cristian inspected the vehicle and determined that a new bumper would be needed. After waiting a few weeks for a new bumper (thanks to Tesla's slow manufacturing time) I brought the car in on a Monday. I let them know I'd be going out of town in about 10 days, so they said they would try to get it repaired before I left. Cristian called me 3 days later to let me know that they were able to get the whole thing handled in less time than expected and the car was ready to be picked up. When I picked it up, not only had they cleaned it (I expected a quick wash, sure) they have CLEAAAANED it. Fully detailed, inside and out. They also buffed out a few small scratches, fully cleaned up some curb rash, and gave me a small bottle of touchup paint in case of future dings. All around, they exceeded expectations at all turns.
