The large truck demonstrated online was not the truck that showed up, therefore I was charged for two full truck loads when my items did not fit in one truck. We have use A Junk Free Planet twice now. Both times, there has been a time crunch & we needed to get rid of a lot of stuff (mostly office furniture & associated). We worked with Pernell on both occasions. In the first instance, they were here within an hour of our calling and everything was gone shortly after that. In todays' call, Pernell was faced with a complete a disaster, as a tenant had moved out & left the majority of their office furnishings behind. They were here by 8:30 am, had the first load on the way to the dump by 11:30 am, came back to finish the job and were done by 1:00 pm. Although they are timely and very friendly, I felt I was bait and switched by their charging system. They told me to go online and see the pictures demonstrating the charges, which are based on how full they fill their "truck". The pictures on their site show a large cube truck, from which I determined how much I'd pay and made my decision to go with them. They then showed up with a pull-behind bin that was about 2/3 the size of the visual they use on their site to represent their truck size, and therefore load capacity. But they still charged me based on how full this undersized bin was compared to their pictures of a large cube truck. I knew I'd only fill 1/2 of a cube truck that size, but this smaller bin they brought got filled halfway. When I pointed this out to them, they didn't deny it. They just grinned and said that I could always post a review on Yelp. If they were running a truly fair business, they'd either modify the pictures on their website, or show up with a truck the size of the one depicted on their website. If they clean THAT part of their business up, then I could more strongly recommend. But the silent acknowledgement that they're aware their website is misleading left a very sour taste in my mouth. read more

I had a spa that had been emptied years ago and left covered. Over time the cover rotted and water got into the spa over many years. My attempt to empty out the water was fruitless. I am an ex-hoarder with two dead or unused giant televisions in my house. One is the old projection type, two feet deep, five feet high, very heavy and awkward. The other a slimmer projection model. They sat in my house for two years, friends were unwilling to help me. Perhaps it was the fact that these monsters had to be carried down 20 steps to the street below that sealed my fate. Visiting a friend in April, he told me not to expect friends to help, but to hire someone to do the dirty work. So I Googled "hauling" and right away found Pernell Hill and his company A Junk Free Planet. The price quoted was very similar to other hauling businesses, but something told me to stick with Pernell. Within two weeks of contact we arranged for Pernell and his assistants to show up at my house yesterday. He came out to my house earlier in the week to see what he would be getting himself into, and to my great joy and relief he and his assistants expertly and quickly moved these monsters out of the house, down the flight of stairs and into their truck. The entire operation took less than half an hour. Not a single snag. Pernell was very professional and very focused and every attempt to move these giant TVs worked out perfectly, considering that the biggest of the TVs had to be turned on its side and moved down a hallway, through a dining and living room area, and out through an entryway to the outdoors. I almost wished I had videotaped the entire process. I told Pernell and his assistants that I would be SCREAMING for joy to have these TVs out of the house. And, yes, they accept tips. I HAD to tip these men; they did such a great job. I will definitely be calling A Junk Free Planet back for the next job, mostly moving big boxes down to the garage and perhaps the removal of two dog houses from the back yard (the dogs sleep in the bed). It upsets me that I have to write this review as I rarely do this and most of the time it's to praise a company for being great. My interaction with 'a junk free planet' unfortunately went horribly and I would urge anyone considering them for heavy removal items to seek another company. It was never made clear to us that Pernell the owner charges $630 a ton. On his site it's listed by the truck full. And he feels it was made clear to us but it wasn't clear at all. Hence the bad experience and disagreement. We didn't talk final price until the job was last loaded and that is in hindsight my error. During the disagreement he stated I should call other companies and would find comparable pricing. That is not the case. After they left I called other companies and they do not charge by the ton for heavy loads. He loaded our two loads of junk and then asked us to pay $2340 (we were expecting something under $1000 which is in line with other companies that I have sought quotes from since) or his alternate option when we were shocked, he would dump out the last load of junk and we just pay for the first truck load. To clarify we were having him dump old bricks and old wood. Mostly bricks. About 3 tons. I feel he took advantage of us and over charged us thinking we would pay it. It was not a pleasant experience and I chose his company because he had less reviews than the other options and all 24 reviews were decent. I originally went with this company because I thought I'd help their business, instead of the company with over 100 reviews. I should have went with a company with more reviews. We settled on a number at the end but it was still much higher than other companies and wasn't inline with the guides we saw on his site. I would never take the time to write this unless I felt I was being taken advantage of. I also told him I found him on yelp for his reviews and that didn't seem to phase him. So if you are looking for removal of heavy items know that this company charges $630 a ton and on top of that a little more for the removal work. That's what I want to make clear here. Other companies do not charge by the ton and definitely not this high of a price, as he previously stated. read more

I rarely write reviews, but I was so impressed with these guys that I wanted to share my good fortune with others. They were punctual, fast, professional and gave me a great price. I needed to get rid of my old upright piano and had no other alternative than to scrap it. After I had dismantled as much of it as I could I called a few removal services in the area but the prices they quoted were insane! I was already depressed about having to destroy my piano and now I couldn't afford to get it out of my house!! I saw A Junk Free Planet's truck on my way to work and called it and described my situation to Pernell. He quoted me a reasonable price and said they were available on Saturday. On Saturday I called and they arrived within 30 minutes. When Pernell saw the piano he said that he would honor his original price, even though the job was more than they had anticipated. I had dismantled most of it but what I couldn't they quickly handled with a sledgehammer, and then the 3 of them moved it down the porch stairs and into the truck.
