This is not your Tia's taqueria! This is a classy restaurant with the gourmet version of Mexican cuisine. Some prices are equally high, but if you choose well you don't have to break the bank. Meanwhile you'll get to experience what a creative chef can do to elevate the usual street food to an experience. There was only one server, but he covered the whole room during our lunch with ease. He was very good -- efficient with a pleasing personality. We started with the elote appetizer -- Mexican street corn. The presentation was wonderful. This was perfect to share. It was messy, but delicious. There were three large pieces. Each was a long section of a corn cob with the kernels attached. And it was covered in seasoning, cheese, and sauce. There were lime wedges on the side. We used a lot of napkins. After the corn , we each ordered a taco. I had the fish one. Very lightly battered pollock, it was one piece of fish. Along with the fish was a cabbage slaw, salsa, and cheese. It was served open faced on top of the flour tortilla. It was fairly plain without the sauce and benefited from some lime squeezes. My husband had the al pastor taco. The meat was served on top of two tortillas. He then stuffed each shell to his liking. There was a lot of shredded pork along with grilled pineapple, onions, and cilantro. He said it was very good with a bit of a kick from the meat marinade. They have a lot more than tacos on the menu. Full entrees from snapper to steak. Also salads and appetizers from mussels to empanadas. Glad we dropped by for lunch to try them. It was a learning experience -- as well as a good meal. read more

So I heard of this place because of a friend that she wanted to come here for her birthday. It is an awful the grade cannot see it on the speed like I've been going by this place for the past three years and until now I noticed that it's here. We came here on a Sunday at lunch. It was quite slow but reasonably it was only the Manager and server/Bartender. Shout out to William that he was really nice. The chips and salsa were really good season perfectly. We are the salad fries as an appetizer, the sauce is a steak were really tender. Everything was really good. Honestly, I would give it a 10 out of 10. However, the entrees were really disappointing. The house taco steak and you'll see the pepperoni it was good, but it was unseasoned and the steak tasted a lot like charr, which you gave it a little bit of a bitter taste. The birria was ok it wasn't melted cheese and it was kind of dry. Honestly, I know it comes with the consomme but it was still like a really dry beef. I've never had sitdown Mexican that was more of a disappointment. Truly feels like the business just doesn't care about anything on any level. Salsa and guacamole clearly came from the bag completely processed. Watered down sludge. So I think this place might've just opened or it needs something. It looks amazing. Friday reservation @7:45 maybe 8 tables as I'm walking to table. It's a cool vibe and nice bar inside, and have outside dining as well. Gorgeous space. Pros: Food was good. Not blown away. But good. The meat was certainly under seasoned. Both the chicken and asada needed more love. Margarita we wound up sharing was good. The beans and rice were on point. Nicely seasoned and Smokey. Cons: Service. A lot of people working but overall time between touches was lazy. Very friendly and nice but they just need guidance and training. On a personal note. Well, the ambiance is absolutely gorgeous! It looks amazing, the outdoor space as well. My husband had a steak with rice and beans and I had steak tacos. The food did taste delicious, no doubt about it. But the reason I can only give three stars is the amount. You would think we had gotten only appetizers ,for I have never had so little food on my little plate.! 4 small strips of beef and 2 little hard fajitas. I had the Carne Asada with a side of rice and beans, and to be honest, I read other reviews regarding portion sizing and I have to agree; this is probably the smallest steak I've ever had for $32. On the contrast, the side of rice and beans is fairly size-able! I also think the lake view location is fantastic and the style of the restaurant is really unique for Boynton. Regarding service, I will have to come back, because unfortunately since it was quite busy on Mother's Day, we waited over 45 minutes for our food. There's really not much to dislike about A'lu! From the ambiance to the food, everything was on point. The space itself is beautiful--open, stylish, and inviting, which makes me imagine how fantastic it'd be for a holiday party or a special event. As for the drinks, Margaritas Monday is a total win! Discounted margaritas? Yes, please! We tried both the Strawberry and Guava margaritas, and both were fantastic--refreshing, flavorful, and just the right balance of sweet and tangy. For food, we kept it light. Since I wasn't super hungry, we opted for the Asada fries. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful. The fries were crispy, but the cheese sauce, while good, wasn't exactly my favorite. It had a nice richness, but I think I'd prefer them without it next time. Service was solid--our server was multitasking, running the bar and the floor, so she was definitely busy, but still managed to keep everything flowing smoothly. Huge, beautifully designed space with dramatic lighting, a strong bar presence, and enough room to host serious events without feeling cramped. This is not Tex-Mex. The menu leans San Diego/Baja with regional depth -- smoked short rib mole, goat birria, Siete Mares seafood caldo, steak chimichurri, and a creative corn "lasagna." The overall polish reminded me of the specialty restaurants at upper-end Riviera Maya resorts -- composed, elevated, and intentional. Standouts: *Empanadas with a delicious smoky braised meat filling (would prefer sauce on the side). *Smoked short rib mole -- tender and well layered. Ask for rice or tortillas; they're happy to bring them. *Goat birria taco -- flavorful and not gamy. Go light on the consomé. *Siete Mares -- tomato-based seafood soup that reminded me of cioppino. *Corn lasagna -- creative vegetarian option. *Strong mezcal and margarita program. If I hadn't eaten so many chips and salsa, I would have eaten the whole salad. It was amazing! One person got carna asada tacos and said it was good but the meat was a bit dry. Then someone else got barbacoa tacos and the shell was saturated and broke apart. She said the meat tasted amazing but wishes it was on a hard shell. (They don't have hard shells- FYI). Then we moved on to dessert. This is where it fell flat for all of us. The chirps had no flavor. The tees leches was good, not great. Just average. Next time we will try the dulce de leche. Waitress said that's the best one and we didn't listen! Our own fault. I give his four and not five for a few reasons. One the dessert menu was lackluster. Two, the taco shell situation and three the dry steak. Overall, we WILL returning (we actually have a large party in one day arriving since this place is GREAT for a large party) and we did enjoy just about everything we tried. We waited over 30 minutes just to have our drink and food order taken. The chips and salsa were gross. My chips tasted like they were cooked in old oil. Salsa had no flavor. Another twenty minutes later we finally got our drinks. A few minutes later we finally received our food. The Carna Asada tasted like chargrilled hamburgers that have sat too long on the grill. Terrible experience. The food was tasteless. The service was meh at best. The place was nearly empty at 6pm in the evening. The one star goes to how clean the place was. Maybe that's because there was no one there. Bad location. If not for Yelp, I would have never known it was there, and I drive by there plenty. With us there, there were only 3 other tables being served, and the place has 30+ tables total, plus a good size bar, that was completely empty as well. As for being Tex Mex, nah, they need to change it up to survive. I would completely change the menu, put a big ass sign out front, and probably turn it into a sports bar. As a foodie, I love trying new places, but this one missed the mark for me. I stopped by on a Monday, and the season was super slow. There were only about three people in this huge restaurant, yet I wasn't even acknowledged for 15 minutes. Eventually, my server (Autumn)came over with salsa and chips and literally said she had forgotten about me. The outdoor seating in the back had such a beautiful view, which honestly was the best part of the experience for me. But the service stayed painfully slow, and I waited way too long for my food. To make it worse, I had to go inside just to pay. The manager (a tall white guy) checked me out, and when I mentioned that my server had been really slow, he barely acknowledged what I said. I just wanted to update my review because the menu has changed quite a bit and the happy hour is not as great as it used to be. Happy hour used to be 1/2 off all drinks and now it is just a slight discount on a few drinks, not all. Also taco happy hour list is not on all tacos, also still just a select few. Another thing to note is that the taco entree is more expensive and now doesn't include the fish tacos and the birria tacos, which are my favorite. Also mussels were new to the happy hour menu... not really a fan of their sauce. Ambiance is still beautiful and both the indoor dining area and outdoor patio provide the perfect backdrop to a girls night out, date night, or after work drinks with friends. Service is also great and servers/bartenders are nice and attentive. However, with the changes I probably will not be back unless it is an occasion because there are better taco spots for less. Perfect for a date night! Our server was sweet and when I had an issue with my drink she corrected it right away. My date had the chicken, fish & birria tacos. I don't know where to start. 6 menu entrees (2 bites worth), they refused to find or look for any choices that I can eat. They said 100% garlic. I ordered a tequila margarita ( oh my). Easy return, 3 times. Finally got a shot of Don Julio Reposato. Round 1, perfect. Round 2, (99% water). I showed just the color of the 2, to the manager. He called me a liar and don't ever doubt his bar tenders. OMG. That's just my drink. The food was 10 times worse. Maybe 2 bites. We've been here two times now and each time was absolutely wonderful! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It is such a unique taste, and everything is delicious! The service is also outstanding! The staff is so accommodating and helpful! They offer just the right amount of suggestions and are also so attentive. There was always a smile on our waitress' face. The food, just delightful! Not pictured is the spicy salsa & guacamole we got, but they were both so flavorful. The chips always come out fresh and are the perfect way to start the meal.
