Ever disappointed with the food, service and ambiance with Montezuma's. If you haven't tried it you're missing out !

Oh my goodness...you can't beat a yummy Mexican dish. And for the price, it was sooooo big. Great little spot. Love finding these little hidden gems.

After reading numerous positive reviews and wanting to eat Mexican food for lunch, I took a quick break to Montezuma's and ended up being disappointed. The place seemed clean and small but as I entered the temperature was HOT HOT, not sure but either the A/C was broken or the business owners did not want to use electricity. Who knows... just that alone was tough to handle... but as I heard so many brag about the food and all I still placed an order for take out. The wait was for 15-20 mins, reasonable IF the food was superb quality but it was NOT. The food was not horrible, but I must say it was not as good as I read in these reviews either. I definitely have eaten better Mexican food elsewhere and this was average quality. I ordered from the lunch menu and had the beef tacos, the flavor was very basic, nothing to scream about and my colleague ordered a plate, which cost double what I paid for and when we compared the two orders the ingredients were just about the same, only difference was addition of fried onions and a larger (normal) size piece of meat. Again, it was nothing special. I've added pictures of our meals for you all to see the real deal!!

Very attentive service. I ordered fajitas and they were delicious but too much chicken to finish. My friend had a lunch special which looked good and were a great price. The chips with the chips and salsa looked like they were not cooked at a high enough temp. A little greasy looking

The tacos here were disappointing, at best. There are too many great restaurants in the area to settle on this one.

We ordered a few cocktails, the El Segundo Classico, a classic margarita, and the Oaxaca Peach Old Fashioned made of blanco tequila and a bit of mezcal, very refreshing to start off with. Our servers recommended a few different menu items. The Pimento Cheese Elote Dip small plate was delicious. We then moved on to the tacos - the Brisket Burnt Ends, the Chicharron Ceviche, and the Cali Fish (my favorite). The Cali Fish was nicely fried and just a bit of heat and slightly sweet slaw. Also tried the Birria Tacos and the Burrito, both great. We loved sitting outside in front of the restaurant. There are few artist studios across the parking lot. El Segundo has ample indoor and outdoor seating. Though slammed, I sat at the bar and met Connor. His beer "is so cold, your teeth will hurt." That statement is a sign on Isla Majure. The menu is awesome. Prices are great. It was tough to finish my blackened chicken burrito! Deliciosa!!! But what makes this place vibe is the young staff. They rock! And they got each other's 6. I witnessed this as Sam was pouring one of their famous margaritas. As she was close to empty with her container, Connor does a stealthy maneuver and slips in another container for her. Sam did not miss a beat because of Connor. Everyone and I mean everyone connects. It is worth your time. Enjoy the local art too.

In fact, when we left all the booths were occupied plus half the other tables in the middle of the room. They gave us chips and salsa to start. The salsa was just okay. They had a number of lunch specials. We ordered from the combo section. I ordered a chalupa with ground beef without onions and chose the regular beans (vs the refried ones). I had to look up what a chalupa was... and basically it's a softer more bread like wrap. It was fried, so it was crispy on the outside and soft inside. The portion was large with melted cheese. Alongside was a small scoop of sour cream and one of guacamole. A mound of yellow rice and a small taco shell cup of red beans rounded out the plate. It was good, but fairly plain tasting. Adding some salt and salsa helped a bit. My husband got a combo with two different options. He wound up taking one part of his lunch home. His meal came with refried beans and yellow rice. I'm glad we came to try them. Now we know.

The most unexpected and unique one was the spicy avocado one - don't knock it, till you try it! Made with fresh avocados, it was like a delicious tequila smoothie almost. SO good. I also tried the Guava Habanero (available for happy hour), delicious! My husband ordered a few spicy margaritas to his taste, they can make them as spicy as you'd like! Food - we ordered the smoked spanish octopus (not happy hour). This was VERY good. The octopus was cooked perfectly and had great flavor! Then from the happy hour menu, we got a chicken quesadilla and a carnitas taco. Both yummy! Really enjoyed the quesadilla! I hadn't been in here a very long time (since when they first opened) so we had a great time and definitely will be coming back for happy hour again. It's a GREAT HH!

We were able to find parking very easily and did not have to pay which is rare in this district! My friend got a chorizo taco and she said the taste was amazing and her mouth exploded with flavor. They'll bring your tacos out to you. I got the pescadito taco. The fish has a nice and crisp batter, it stayed light and wasn't too oily. The fish was super flakey and moist. Everything on this taco worked so well together. The pickled red onion helps cut through the richness of the guac and fattiness of the batter on the fish. The pineapple is a burst of freshness and sweetness that live a up the whole thing while also balancing sharpness from the onion. If you can here hungry, you're probably putting away 4 tacos. If you are a normal functioning human and don't eat like it's your last meal, 2-3 will probably be good. So you're looking at $14-$28 on food. For me, on an empty stomach, this would be pushing $30 for tacos which IMO is a bit steep (and let's be honest, if I'm that hungry I might make a bad decision and get more than 4). That said, it was really good. I wish they had some combo options though 3 for $16, 4 for $20 etc.

I love me some carne asada but I was intrigued but this 'fried shredded beef' that was marinated in mole and cooked in a hot skillet until crispy. She suggested sweet plantains to go with it and white rice with beans which is traditional Cuban (instead of yellow rice). IT WAS FABULOUS! It was crispy on the outside and juicy. The mole was flavorful but not spicy and i appreciated that the meat was not dripping in sauce. My dinner date ordered chicken tamales which were seasoned in a Cuban style with yellow rice. She is used to Mexican tamales but said these really hit the spot! The only blemish on the nice was her second margarita which was the cucumber one which she didn't like at all.
