The food is delicious, the people who work here are so kind and caring and give great service. Every time I come home to visit my first stop from the airport is montezuma for the torta de pollo. We were in this area for a medical appointment and were starved. It was between lunch and dinner and I had a craving for Mexican style food. We are not big on Mexican food and I cannot recall the last time actually going to a restaurant and ordering it. While driving through the specific neighborhood of WPB where we found ourselves I saw many businesses which appeared to cater to Spanish speaking clients. Their signage was the big giveaway. Passed a few Mexican foodies. Googled and yelped them. And Montezuma appeared to be the winner. Well let me tell you - go there. Now. It was incredibly authentic. Good portion size huge. Each dish was prepared to perfection. Served hot. Tasty. Beers were icy cold and $4.50 each. Kure server was Gume. She spoke Spanish only. And very very very very fast. My husband is Spanish speaking by birth, and he had difficulty understanding her. He asked her to slow down (in Spanish), explaining he knew the language but couldn't understand her. She reluctantly slowed down. And was now speaking just very very fast. We had chips and salsa. The salsa was incredibly tasty. And a huge portion of just cooked chips. Get it! $3.50. I had camarones Mexican style $15.50 and would order again in a heartbeat. Husband had pollo asado $13.00 and he devoured it. Ordered a side of platanos Fritos. Get them. Get two portions. Maybe three. You'll fall in love. Ended with flan which we took home and enjoyed so much. Total check was $76 with tip already added. Would I return. Hard YES. Do I suggest you go there NOW. We came after a wonderful trip to the zoo and had the worst experience. Food is terrible quality, meats tasted awful. No slow cooked meats and we waited an hr and a half to eat. The restaurant it self is so beautiful. There are so many objects that one could buy. personally, my favorite thing to have is the tamales. It is quite literally the only place I ever go to have some tamale I prefer the pork, but the chicken is also amazing. if you're ever interested in searching for some authentic Mexican food, this is the right place to go. read more

Tried this little spot while we were in town after reading other reviews. It was right down the street from our Air b&B. My husband wasn't crazy about his chicken mold but I'm typically more of the mold fan than he is. I thought it was good just a bit on the sweet side. I had another chicken dish with a cheese enchilada and ate every bite. We didn't have a menu when we called and the gal was so friendly and walked us through what to order. This is my ultimate taco spot in west palm beach. Unmatched .... the steak tacos are life .. the plates are hefty and every plate comes with a side of cilantro, onion, guac and salsa .. wow!! I always ask for a side of cheese it's the best cheese I've ever had. The horchata is sooooooo good soooo goood but make sure to ask when it was made i will only drink it if it's made the same day i don't like how it feels greasy if it sits for longer than a day ........ the ladies that work there are really really like perfectionists so it makes me so happy when i have never gotten the wrong order or even lack luster... best tacos of west palm beach read more

After reading numerous positive reviews and wanting to eat Mexican food for lunch, I took a quick break to Montezuma's and ended up being disappointed. The place seemed clean and small but as I entered the temperature was HOT HOT, not sure but either the A/C was broken or the business owners did not want to use electricity. Who knows... just that alone was tough to handle... but as I heard so many brag about the food and all I still placed an order for take out. The wait was for 15-20 mins, reasonable IF the food was superb quality but it was NOT. The food was not horrible, but I must say it was not as good as I read in these reviews either. I definitely have eaten better Mexican food elsewhere and this was average quality. I ordered from the lunch menu and had the beef tacos, the flavor was very basic, nothing to scream about and my colleague ordered a plate, which cost double what I paid for and when we compared the two orders the ingredients were just about the same, only difference was addition of fried onions and a larger (normal) size piece of meat. The food is inconsistent at best. The first time I dined there, I ordered a crispy taco meal. It was made only with the meat and the crispy shell even though I requested it all the way. I asked about the lettuce, tomatoes. The server looked hesitantly brought them out so that I could apply them to the shell. I never thought that I'd had to ask for the additional taco vegetables/cheese in any Mexican/tex-mex restaurant. The taco meat was nicely seasoned, however. I gave them another chance because maybe they were having a bad day. The second and third times were considerably better. My server was a friendly female college student. The food was quite tasty. The taco was nicely stuffed with meat, veggies, cheese... The enchilada was perfecto. I thought that I found a great new Mexican paradise. The final time that I dined, it was like déjà vous of the first time. My server was an older lady. The only thing present in my crispy taco was a scant amount of meat. I was abruptly informed that ONLY meat was available in their tacos. I offered to pay extra for the cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. She would hear nothing of it. Oh well, I could have stayed at home and made Old El Paso. I could have then applied my own veggies. Bottom line, when you go there, it appears to be the luck of the draw regarding who your cook, server/staff are. When I dine out I don't want to play Russian Roulette regarding whether or not I enjoy a tasty meal and a good time. Stopped in today for a bite of lunch. They have a lunch special for $5.75. I decided to have a combo with chicken enchilada and a pork tamale. I also ordered a Taco Al Pastor. All three were really good, and the beans/rice were also really good. All the food is homemade, it didn't come out super quick which was nice actually because it wasn't just sitting around, they actually made everything to order. Homemade hot sauce was also brought to the table, which was spicy and really good. One minor thing was I didn't get chips and salsa when I arrived, not sure if that's extra or just not done for lunch. I'll see if dinner is different. The place itself is not much to write about. It definitely needs updating, but seemed fairly clean at least. The waitress was very nice and helpful. I will definitely check it out again, and bring the family along next time. read more

On Tue November 14th, 2017 My Fiancé and I were in the mood for Mexican food so we went to Montezumas Restaurant in West Palm Beach, FL after reading that it has a 3.5 rating. I do not write many reviews, but this review is absolutely necessary. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food then this is not the restaurant for you. What an horrible experience. The waitress was waiting on 6 tables and was the cashier too. She had no help. I ordered guacamole with my appetizer and meal, but never got it. What Mexican Restaurant does not have guacamole? The waitress just kept lying to me and saying that it was on its way and the kitchen was busy. Even after receiving the check at the end, the waitress was still telling me lies that the guacamole was on its way. The guacamole never came, but I was charged for it. Both the food and service were very poor. Save yourself the aggravation and take your business somewhere you will have a pleasant dining experience and actually get what you pay for. read more

This place is incredibly close to us but I have to admit the name and the vague strip mall aesthetic didn't appeal to us for a while. I mean. Don't we always worry about a bad after result of eating Mexican? (one of my favorite types of cuisine regardless) I had went there about a year ago and ordered take out tacos and was happy enough with them but not inspired to stop driving or biking further to Lupitas. Lately there have been some enthusiastic reviews on yelp so I asked my mr to have lunch with me there and we're glad we did. Two entrees that included rice and beans and 4 cold negro modelos we're cheerfully served to us for just over $30. Score! I selected chicken chimichangas mainly b/c it was served with guacamole and I wanted to try theirs. Another reviewer mentioned it had a ton of cilantro and it's true but I enjoyed it AND it was fresh. One thing that can ruin my Mexican meal is guac made with old produce. I love this restaurant! My favorite is the chili rellenos... it is so amazing ..the delicious homemade sauce and bold, fresh flavors bring back great memories of vacations in Mexico. Do not judge a book by it's cover! A lesson learned when I decided to take the familia to Mexican before we headed out of the West Palm area and back home to D.C. Being the first "yelper" to "yelp" about Montezuma, I had to rely on sometimes unreliable and unverifiable reports from google. So, here is a quick shout-out to the "googlers" who pointed me in the right direction. As we were heading away from Palm Beach International (PBI), I noticed the environs changing from business hotels and car rental depots to heavy industrial. The type of heavy industrial in which you can get your car dropped about 20 inches and have those crazy flames you always wanted for your car, added to the sides. So, as usually hard on the outside, but weak and meek softie on the inside me had a moment of hesitance before heading into this true "Mexican Cantina" Thank goodness I summoned all the Scottish 'William Wallace" in me I could find and decided to go in. Here is the rest of the story: Ambiance: Typical mom and pop restaurant. Kept clean and too the point. Service: Super sweet server who is happy to help her family owned business. Food: AMAZING! Best Mole ever... An amazing burrito that can get even the biggest Chipotle find to possibly change their mind about Chipotle. The burrito was with carnitas. We ordered a little taco for my son and the chicken was awesome. The portions were big not only for the food, but the drinks as well. Try the Tamarindo and the Horchata. Where else can you feed three people with refreshing drinks and great food for less than $25. read more

MOntezuma's is BACK!!! After a long hiatus we finally gave our old favorite Mexican place another try. THANK GOODNESS WE DID!! If you asked me a few years ago, I would of given it a 2.They seemed to have fixed a grease problem that drove us away years ago. they also started putting frozen veggies in place of most meat. So glad they returned to the right formula. I had my usual Steak Taco Salad and it was fab! Unlike most place that give you a greasy bowl of wet lettuce and oily faux cheddar cheese, Montezuma's give you 3 double shelled crunchy tacos that are stuffed to the max. Beans, lots of steak, lettuce, QUESO FRESCO and plenty of pico, guac and sour cream on the side. Plus, the chips and salsa were ON POINT again. not too watery w fresh diced veggies. Ask for some salsa verde. My husband had the steak torte and shrimp cocktail. Everything tasted great and was prepared perfectly. The service was attentive and the whole bill for the 2 of us (including beers) was around $40!!!! I do wish they would turn off the television and play music instead. It seems they have it on for the kids but when dinner crowd comes in they should 86 the TV and crank up their favorite Mexican music. Keep it up Montezuma's!!! read more

I've always been such a fan of this place but I went today for the first time in a long time and was not nearly as impressed. They were out of chips (out of chips?!) and the chips and salsa here have always been such a delightful part of the meal. I ordered iced tea that was totally undrinkable- which maybe I should have foreseen as I don't think the Mexican culture is known for their sweet tea. It literally tasted like dirt though. The worst part however was the service, we were the only table in there and drink refills were hard to come by, the food took 40 minutes, and getting the check was a hassle. The only reason it didn't get 1 star was because my quesadilla wasn't bad. It wasn't as good as I remembered, but it definitely wasn't bad. This is the BEST Mexican food, not only in WPB, but anywhere! It is located in a small strip mall, but don't let the outside fool you. The owners have been there 19 years and it's all family run and cooked. The food is AUTHENTIC and fresh. Delicious in a way I have never experienced with Mexican food. This place has gone downhill heavily since I began coming a few years ago. They have lost a lifetime customer for good after my last 3 visits... For one, the service is always bad and the only server who seems to work asks what you would like to order the second she hands you a menu. It seems like they're just trying to rush you in and out... Secondly they charge $2.50 for a miniscule amount of chips and salsa. They only started this new pricing on your first chips and salsa since they've gotten so slow (I wonder why...) Three, their meat is always dry and lacking in flavor. And they overcharge on a watered down margarita. Everything about this place is bad now, I tried giving it a shot multiple times now but it hasn't worked. Its a waste of money and needs desperate help.
