Six Stars After helping my daughter arrange to move all of her belongings from Carmel Valley to a storage facility in Salinas last year, we were very anxious about hiring another mover as that experience was enough to make me want to spend a few days at my favorite bar. We thought that hiring a large moving van that I could drive and use pick up crews for the heavy lifting at each location, because the prospect of a repeat of our first experience was too much to consider, and my liver was already objecting to further abuse! Surprise! All of the truck rental firms wanted a advance deposit but could not guarantee which size truck we would get, and the pickup location might be over a hundred miles away. Back to finding a professional mover. Fortunately, we saw some of the reviews for New Beginnings, after talking to several other movers that had brought back all of the old memories of our move from hell. So, on a Saturday evening I called New Beginnings number to leave a voice message. Surprise, I reached Marcus, one of the two principals, at his home! Not only did he take my call, he told me he could move my daughter's belongings on the following Sunday, and would be helping his driver. The "estimate" for the move seemed reasonable (about 2/3 of the best alternative). A week later, on a Sunday morning, Marcus and his driver showed up with the correct size van (26') and immediately began sorting my daughters belongs according to where they would be placed in the truck. I was shocked to see that the furniture the first mover had just shoved onto their truck was now being carefully wrapped in movers pads then sealed in plastic. Marcus even swept out the storage building after all of the items were loaded. He said he had my daughters new house loaded in his GPS so he didn't need to follow me. Three hours later, here comes the truck to the house in Pismo Beach. Unloading went just as organized as the loading, all of the furniture was unwrapped and set where my daughter directed, the beds reassembled, and all moving debris cleaned up. The final bill was presented, slightly lower than the estimate. But best of all, no need to abuse my liver at the closest bar. Not quite a pleasure, but certainly a much better experience than expected. This is a business run by old school professionals who respect their customers, time, valuables, and money. On a 1-10 scale, these nice people are a true 12. I am a college student and needed my things moved out of storage and into my brand new place over winter break when all my friends were home for the holidays and I had no one around to help. I found A New Beginning Monterey on Craig's List and I am so, so very glad I did. The guys were extremely nice, both on the phone and in person, and really, really good at what they did. I had a lot of things, a two bedroom apartment's worth storage unit on the second floor of a PS building full of stuff, and the guys moved it all into a truck (that they supplied) and into my new place in like two and half hours. I was shocked and amazed. It took my friends and I like two hours just to get my things from the moving truck into the unit when we did it ourselves. The best part is, it was super reasonably priced. It was probably one of the best deals I have ever received on anything. The whole thing cost less than $200.00. Calling A New Beginning Monterey was one of the best decisions I ever made. Marcus and Dexter recently moved us all the way from Monterey to Washington State. They really saved us after a big corporate movers cancelled on us last minute, managing to help us on quite short notice. They drove the van all the way for us also, so we could take the pets in the car. I've had to do several moves over the last few years, but I found Marcus and Dexter to be the most professional of all the movers I've used. They packed the van really well. The contents didn't move about at all over the 1000 mile journey. They packed and unpacked it quickly and with great care. Nothing got damaged during the move and everything was placed where we wanted it to be at our destination. Do yourself a favor and use this local company rather than a corporate national movers. Marcus and Dexter moved a piano we purchased in Salinas to our home in Monterey this afternoon. We could not be more pleased with their service. They were prompt and extremely professional. And it was obvious from the minute they showed up that they pay attention to detail. The piano had to be moved through a narrow alley only an inch or so wider than the piano itself, and they took great care to ensure it came through unscathed - they clearly have a lot of experience. As a military member who has seen many moves, I can confidently say that these two are excellent. And, after calling around to a few other moving companies in the area, Marcus and Dexter offered the most affordable rate. The men came over on a Sunday and discovered that my 10 foot U-Haul truck did not have a loading ramp. They advised me on how we could ad lib a ramp. They returned the next morning at 7 am and loaded the baby grand piano, a desk, and multiple boxes. We then drove the truck from Monterey to Dallas. These men were professional and pleasant and did a competent job. The piano remained securely anchored to the walls of the truck and did not shift during the long drive. Marcus and Marcus Jr. were the best movers I have ever worked with. Super efficient, super careful. These guys were making sure none of the furniture even bumped or scratched a wall and carefully navigated through my house. These guys also really knew how to effectively and efficiently load a truck and secure its interior.
