When a patient arrived for her appointment and struggled with the paperwork, Ms. Fonseca told a staff member that the patient was taking too long to complete it. She seemed to believe that the patient's language barrier should have resulted in the cancellation of the appointment. This viewpoint is unacceptable. Fair care requires patients to receive help in their native language, regardless of English. Language should not prevent access to essential services.
