The building is beautiful with its landscaped courtyards and spacious and immaculate resident rooms. The staff is highly professional and caring with a wonderful sense of humor. Even the food is tasty, something you don't expect when you are in the hospital or nursing home. I will not address the overall quality of care he received during his stay in this review. What I will address is what happened afterward -- or more accurately, what did not happen. At 1:30 a.m. on the morning of his death, I received a phone call from a constable, not from Ignite staff. The constable informed me that there had been a "pretty serious medical emergency" and that my father had been found unresponsive sometime between midnight and 12:30 a.m. He stated that staff had called 911 and that paramedics pronounced my father deceased around 1:00 a.m. I was in shock and did not know what questions to ask at that moment. It has now been three weeks since my father's death, and I have not heard from a single Ignite employee -- not a nurse, not a manager, not a care coordinator, not anyone. No one has contacted me to explain what happened. No one has offered condolences. No one has acknowledged that my father died while in their care. To be clear, I am not alleging that Ignite caused my father's death. However, the complete absence of communication is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. The expectation was recovery -- not death in the middle of the night with no explanation afterward. Why did no unit manager, social worker, or director of nursing contact me as the primary contact? Why was there no call explaining the sequence of events? A simple, humane conversation -- "The nurse entered his room to administer his midnight medication, found him unresponsive, we immediately called 911 and initiated life-saving measures, and we are so sorry for your loss" -- never happened. Instead, I am left to imagine what MAY have occurred. For a family who entrusted this facility with their loved one's care, that silence is unfathomable.

I visit three times a week and take him to lunch or just have coffee. That he loves the place is another reason to be happy. We have never had a bad experience at Heritage Park. Now, HHS benefits! I have cameras in her room and visit regularly throughout the week so I'm very aware of the attention she receives and it gives me peace of mind to know that she is content, well liked, receiving good medical attention and getting the therapy she needs, not to mention participating in fun activities and making friends. They schedule regular assessments with the family to address any needs, preferences or concerns and my family is regularly reassured that the resident's health, comfort and satisfaction continue to be a priority.

I would go so far as to say they have treated our family like family. Cora in admissions worked with us to explain the finances and answer all questions. She's stepped back in when finances became tighter. Amber, the Executive Director has always shown us kindness and compassion and gone to bat for our family. The maintenance staff got Grandpa's TV working a few times so he could continue to watch his baseball. They then moved Grandpa's hospital bed over to Grandma's room and set it up for us when he passed. Sandra, the director of the Memory Care Unit is such a loving leader to the residents and her staff. The Christmas party for residents, staff and family was so generous and fun. It's so hard to not be able to see Grandma in person because of COVID-19 and it makes it even more important to know that the staff in the memory care unit treats Grandma as if she were their own Grandma. I thank the Lord that we found them.
